Yes! I like this!
Haha, I liked doing them! Thank for watching @BimaCoratCoret!
I’m not mean, but you talk really slowly. I had to watch at x2 and the video could’ve been shorter. Trying to be constructive with my criticism
Hey No Worries @lolsfordays5921, gotta work on all aspects of the channel. Want to get better. Thanks for watching, take care.
Nice work😊
Thank you @Cyber-rider for the kind word. I'll keep going and try to make better art and better videos. Take Care!
I definitely remember doing copies of lineart a few years back in a similar way to get better at pencils. Lots of which were BW/ monochrome. I didn't think to apply that tech to Lean inking. This is something good to practice and a good excuse to ease my way back into digital too. Definitely think I'll add studies like these in 2025 coming Lord's willing. Cheers to you and the New Year
Hello @VoidBringer_98, a fellow artist, sweet. Yeah, sometimes I switch up how I study to keep it interesting for myself and keep moving forward. Keep making art, Cheers to you and hope 2025 is your year!
@treyhodges3136 Appreciate it much. I slowed down a good clip on digital to get my draftsmanship on paper to a higher level. After seeing what I'm capable of throughout 2024 I definitely think I'm ready to add digital back into the mix. I've got a daily sketch habit I'm keeping so far as I learn to make comics and graphic novels as well. I landed on this video as I'm getting into black and white inking a lot more lately. Really didn't know that there was so much to inking techniques. Glad to be on board 😁
It is a crime that you have so few subscribers. I absolutely love your videos!
Thank You so much @rowleyzery, you're far too kind. I'll just keep grinding and we will get there. Oh yes, we will get there. Take Care.
Dude as a guy who starts doing ink studies and learning ink painting this Video couldn't have come at a better timing!
Thanks for watching @savvysod8995, I hope your ink studies goes well. Inking is such a cool art form with so much to learn. Goodluck!
Incredible…sorry I had to do it.
I'd say that it was ... Smashing, or something. haha Take Care @congaking100
This is definitely helping me on my challenge to step away from cold, emotionless helmets. You made good points, and gave plenty of directions to take, as well as resources to use. AND IT WAS ENTERTAINING!
Well, thank you so much @knightmichaelproductions5860, glad you found some use from the video.
Where can I find these refillable brushes? Is there a link to buy them?
Hello @martondiaslopes7016, I don't have any links, sorry. (I haven't really thought about that) As for the Refillable brush pens, Amazon is probably the best bet, Pentel Brush Pen seems to be the my most used, and I know there is a pack of 2 refills. Kuretake is also good and I think has refill cartridges. Hope that helps
Stellar performance-my compliments
Thank You, thank you... your far to kind. ahaha Take care @recreepy.
Beautiful. What kind of paper do you print them out on?
Hey @chriscanianoart811, I'm using Strathmore Bristol, 300 series in both the vellum paper, which has some texture, and the smooth paper.
@@treyhodges3136 Oh I thought some of the print outs were on typing paper. I guess you have a good enough printer to print out on bristol paper. I'll need to look into that for myself. Thanks!
oh my gosh thank you. i have watched so many vids and you just helped so much. thank you
Well thank you for checking out the video @Buddhabellie! I've learned a lot by watching other UA-camr on things I want to learn, so I'm glad I could help.
Are you doing the drawings by hand or just reproducing them via copies/scans?
Hello @mchlup, I reproduced the inks from scans/print outs using a light table. I change my methods depending on what I want to learn, so for example, if I wanted to learn from other artist style or line work; I would copy their art by hand, because I think I learn better by tactile hand skills. For this I was trying to practice inking and so copied the art to strathmore paper then focused on the ink process.
@@treyhodges3136 Thanks for the info.
I've also started a motion comic-style animation project, and I need to learn. Your drawings look incredible. Thank you for sharing.
Hello phoenix78206, you are doing a motion comic-style animation project, that sounds fantastic! I hope you keep going.
@treyhodges3136 Thanks man. I'm having a hard time right now, but I'll let you know if I succeed.😄
I HAVE that book too. I've been reading through it to prepare for a comic project coming up. This was nice to watch. I really enjoyed you talking out your process and why.
Hello beansproutuncreative, yeah the book is awesome. I'm glad you have a comic project your working on, I think that is one of the best way to learn and practice. I hope your project goes well. I'm rooting for you!
love SGM... dont forget the fingerprints and toothbrush splatter! :)
Hello BlackMath, Ah yes the Fingerprint and Toothbrush Splatter, haha. Fingerprints I can do but Toothbrush Splatter.. I'm too chicken to try.. so uncontrollable. Take Care
It's freehand ink drawing with brush and ink from yoji it's not really something anyone can imitate that's his unique handwriting
True! There is always something I can learn, especially from the greats. Take Care luxuriousmindset.
awesome work
Thank You so much, AnzumanaTaal. Just trying to get better in all aspects.. haha. Keep Shining
Very beautiful and inspiring~~ Subscribed and liked 3 hehe ☺ Have a happy weekend my dear~ Cheers ☺
Well, Thank you so much for the kind words InfiniteCalm_Studio. Cheers to you as well!
@@treyhodges3136 Hehe! 😊
great video!!! love that you show your tools
Hello DisFortunate, yeah I like to try different tool just to test myself. It's fun, and Keep me on my toes. Thanks for watching

That makes me... Second. haha
Amazing I love this book and I’m trying to become a manga artist and this book still helped me a lot
Hello MonkeyMasterSage, yeah I'm still learning from this book. You want to be a Manga Artist, that's cool! I just wish there was a Manga equivalent. I think Masashi Kishimoto of Naruto, has a book call Uzumaki that has some of how he works, and Otomo of Akira manga also has some books on how and why's of making Akira, but I haven't found a book on Manga creation by the creators themselves that really breaks the manga creation process down into book form.
I grew up reading this book. I need to go find it.
Hey, Ostnizdasht206, I think I found my newest copy at a Barns and Noble bookstore, so I don't think they are too hard to get. As a comic book reading kid, I spent a lot of time copying my favorite heroes (spider-man, x-men, etc), but this book blew my young mind. Thanks for commenting
@@treyhodges3136 I meant I have a copy already. I just need to go find it. lol
?
haha, thanks?!
This is great advice, thank you!
Thank You so much for watching, Arthur-Silva! This is a video I always wanted to make. I learned so much in the process of making the book... and the video.
Thank you Trey, great video
Well thank you very much FoshizZle908, these videos help me learn, while also trying to help others in some small way.
For the first time I see someone interested in the russian folk. greate work keep it up <3
Hey SayKtwice, yeah, when I was younger I read myths, legends, and folk tales from all over. I think some of my favorite stories had weird and fantastic settings, and in the case of Vasilisa Baba Yaga, the three Horsemen, the Chicken Legged House, feeding a doll and the end with the Skull Torch still impresses me today. Plus Russian Laquer Art is Awesome!
@@treyhodges3136Glad you like it! Russian folk is super fun, I love it too. Did you read a russian folk story about undead skeleton?
when you draw a head as a box, notice how much easier head rotation becomes! It's the secret to rotating heads.
Very true, not only is the head easier to rotate in box form, but breaking down the lit side and shadow side is much more clearly defined. thank you for the comment, jonathangray.
Draw minecraft head, gotcha. Thanks for video 🎉
Yep, the Minecraft head is one of the most simple of abstractions of the head. A great way to think about heads. Thanks for watching
Awesome work, I like the use of face photos for reference 😂 cool stuff
Yeah, shooting my own photo reference has helped a lot... and it's silly fun. Thanks for watching
@@treyhodges3136 no worries, keep going !
Yo what's with the eerie sound? 6:58 - 7: 10 lol
haha it's the video background music with some eerie piano key tingles. haha thanks for watching.
Удачи и хорошего развития!! 🎉❤
... Thank You!
SO COOL
Thanks! I'm glad you think so.

Thanks. Just trying to help others as I work to get better.

We stand on the shoulders of giants, go for it brother!.
Exactly, standing on the shoulders of giants to reach higher heights.
What college and course was it I wonder?
p͎r͎o͎m͎o͎s͎m͎ 🏃
Thanks for viewing these bro! This is a GODSEND for people like myself who love art, books, comics and video games. I was wondering which book to purchase first (because I will be buying BOTH books) and your video helped TREMENDOUSLY. I love to see the artistic process of how a creator plots out a design. These books are the crème de la crème of that.

Kudos to your for getting back on the horse, and challenging yourself. You deserve respect for that. I really like this. The darker values are a nice contrast to the softer blues, and the texture work in the background stands out. Well done, and much luck to you on your art journey ;) 👌😊 -Best of luck on your art and your channel, and much support from one artist to another. -Huge 👍's up!
Hello Larry Williams! My First Commenter! Thank you for the kind words. I've always loved the Art Journey, well maybe not the terrible and messy beginnings, but the desire to get better. Man, to see growth is amazing. Much like starting this channel. You made my day Mr. Williams! Keep Shining!
