    I applaud you for these runs. You have embodied the theory of constraints ("Improvement made anywhere besides the bottleneck is a false improvement") by focusing on the most pressing win conditions (cures or cash), something I did not implement much in my runs. I tried to play all levels the same with pretty much same style. Lowering treatment costs when cures are more important seems really obvious now, but back then I failed to consider that at all. I was also probably too excited to show the world of the epidemic skip glitch that I implemented it too often, skipping good money. l think you made some really clever decisions along the way - it was really interesting to see your take on some of the levels and optimized strategies, like avoiding building machines immediately to negate potential earthquake damage. I was initially seeing red with the lack of optimization for some of the rooms (e.g. psychiatrist sofa not next to door, GP cabinet not always next to telephone of desk, etc), but I must concede it is probably not relevant in the grand scheme of things. I was delighted to see you use same philosophy in design of the hospitals as I have done - to make them crammed into smaller space to make them as efficient as possible, and to leave all unnecessary items (plants, bins, fire extinguishers, windows) out If you are planning to run this still in the future, I have some recommendations to polish the run even more: - Set "send home" and "guess at cure" to same value in hospital policy view as soon as possible. Then you will stop receiving faxes on "what should we do with this patient". Every time you change menus (e.g. fax view) you lose approximately 1 second, so you'll save a lot of time in the long run - Study individual rooms: what is the routine path of the patient, what is the routine path of the doctor/nurse, and try to minimize those. Especially rooms such as GP, GD, psychiatrist and pharmacy would be important. For example, often the GD ended up with screen on top of the door and equipment below (e.g. Croaking hospital), which results in the patient having to walk all the way around, 4 times. The items should be other way around - the diagnostics can be sped up dramatically with that little change - Plan the exact layout you want to do for your hospital in detail in advance and stick with it. It's debatable whether this is worth it, but I myself found it very helpful technique. I think you had the initial rooms planned, but later rooms were sometimes more awkward in some levels You wondered about the quicksave / quickload hotkeys. If memory serves me right, those are alt+S and alt+L. I always try to quicksave before earthquakes to not lose like 3 rooms as happened at one point One hypothesis I'd like to see experiments on is that fulfilling any of the 4 win conditions might be a major factor in the inflow of new patients. This would imply that rushing hospital value might be good strategy. (But buying more buildings -> handymen go travel the world, need to block them or not build rooms in the new buildings) I enjoyed the chilled commentary with some insights to your thinking. Unfortunate that the audio balance in Battenberg makes it difficult to hear what you say Maybe you will do the full game speedrun in one session some day, I would like to watch it :) and sorry for the wall of text. Thank you for posting the runs, it was really nice to watch!

    • @TheObserver429
      @TheObserver429 4 дні тому

      Thank you for writing this comment. You are as always right on point. My ideas on how to optimize each level obviously make sense for these individual runs, but what you did makes more sense for the whole hospital run that you did. It is very difficult to implement some of these strategies so it is risky to do them in a whole hospital run. Some of the placement of the objects in the rooms on some of these levels was indeed not optimal. I hope I didn't make you too angry. lol. I think I might have even mentioned the bad room designs in some of the levels in my commentary. I am pretty fast, but I am not professional speedrunner fast so I sometimes just placed the objects in there. I definitely did use your style after confirming what you already know. I did not make a video about my research on the effects of putting objects in each room vs. not doing it, but I did put up a crazy video on the research room and another one on the training room. While I was doing those videos I studied the effects of having more objects in rooms vs. no extra objects. I have seen you use the "send home" and "guess at cure" policy before. I agree that it can save some time, but I personally prefer to see them. Why? I want to know when one of my non consultants has walked into the GPs office. When I start receiving those I check the GPs office to see if I have to kick them out. If I have all consultants, then obviously I should turn it on. I agree that I should have done more planning on the rooms on some of these levels. Some of them were definitely pre-planned but definitely not all of them. Your hypothesis is correct for the most part. Hospital value is obviously important in driving patients into the hospital. It is a win condition, but some of the other win conditions have no effect. From my observations, the flow of patients is controlled by a complex algorithm that takes into effect alot of different things including things that you might not think of: hospital value, temperature, thirst level, reputation, the cost of treatment, how well your staff is trained, prestige, etc. In these old games these things are not laid out for us. Yeah. I don't know what happened to the audio on Battenburg. It is so weird. I watched the video before uploading it and the audio was fine. Audio is such a challenge. Once a video is released though, any boost that it will get in the algorithm is lost if you take it down and re-upload it. I kind of figure that most people aren't even going to watch it that far anyway. I wish it wasn't screwed up though because I used a pretty clever strategy there. It was a nod to my research room video. I have considered doing a full run in the back of my mind, but I don't think I will even make it. 5.5 - 6 hours of play with no breaks is not easy for me. I am glad you enjoyed it. It was inspired by your run and by the fact that you said it could be done in like 5 hours. That is why the total run time is approximately five hours.

      The simple answer is that I play in a more "hardcore" fashion for my playthroughs on this channel. I just roll with the punches and try to avoid reloading as much as possible. Sometimes reloading is unavoidable, but in this case I chose to gamble by clicking the goat shrine and I lost 10% of my mana pool and gained +2 levels to firebolt. One of many things that were way better in the first game. The prices in lotr1 were dynamic, changing depending on what you bought and sold in the past (exchange rate getting worse, for example if you dumped a lot of grain or wool into the market, the prices of these articles would go down). Also many merchants did not sell all items. Weapons were really expensive too - and to build a knight unit, you had to get both swords and mail, not just mail as in lotr2. I whish we had lotr1 economy and battle units (including morale) combined with lotr2 graphics and music and campaign maps.

    • @TheObserver429
      @TheObserver429 2 місяці тому

      I like both games. I did a playthrough of Lords of the Realm and also made videos comparing the two games. Lotr 1 is definitely the harder game. I would not go as far as to say I want a straight lotr economy, but I do think the economy in Lotr 2 could have been more challenging than just buying wheat and forgetting about cows. Making weapons in Lotr 1 took way too long imo. It took years to make 50 weapons even when you had hundreds of people trying to do it. That is kind of absurd imo. I think Lotr 2 was right to make the game more fast paced especially since it came out in the RTS era that was dominated by Warcraft 2. Another feature that would be great would be if you could siege the custom made castles that people can design. Designing a castle in Lotr was a very unique feature of that game.

    • @marcinjackowski8898
      @marcinjackowski8898 2 місяці тому

      @TheObserver429 As a game, I also prefer lotr2. It is a shame however, that it was so dumbed down since lotr1, with awesome and unusual mechanics being removed (price system, battle morale). I remember the forum, where developers of lotr3 were also present, we players had a whish list, almost all wanted the sheep back! They decided to go in opposite direction, focusing on real time with pause, dumbing it down yet again, with unfortunate results for the franchise.

    Just wow. The first sub 1 hour Original Campaign. I have seen the trick where you aggro the pots to the corner of the royal castle before. The ale trick was pretty cool. You can squeeze out a few more troops. The one optimization that really blew my mind was splitting armies on Rose. Even though you had the bad spawn on Germany, that was still a very solid run on that map. The A.I. didn't get out of control like they did on my last run. I'm not going to lie, if I had an Italy like yours, I probably would have restarted the run there. Lol. You are right about the cart in Trebizond. That was like finding a unicorn in the wild.

    • @TheObserver429
      @TheObserver429 2 місяці тому

      You might have already read my comment. I deleted it because it looked like it double posted. Well anyway. The tricks were the pot aggro, the battering ram blocking troops in the royal castle, and I moved the battering ram using the "1" on the keyboard instead of clicking on it. The game automatically assigned that hotkey to the ram. The ale definitely helped me get some extra troops out. The Rose optimization was only for that county and it isn't faster than if you spawn in the right or left side and do it normally. The bottom county gets the merchant later and you have to move from left to right or vice versa so I came up with that to avoid having to start over. You are right my run on Germany was pretty solid despite not getting a nice county there. My best time for Germany thus far has been about 12 minutes. This one was in about 14 minutes. Luckily it was fast enough to get me under an hour.

    What a run! You got very lucky twice. You had one less stone castle to fight in U.S.A. and one less royal castle to fight in the world. Those were major time saves. One thing I have to know, did you mean to take India? Or was that a mistake? Either way, that run is about as good as it gets. GG sir!

      I agree with you that I saved time on The World, but I actually did not save any time in the US. I looked at my previous times in my other runs that I did not post and I got the same time. The time I gained was lost by the Bishop forcing me to go backwards. When I did it the other times it was much cleaner. I was actually thrown off guard when that happened. In the other runs I just went to the castle, took it, and raised an army from Florida. This was definitely an atypical run though. This was the first time I got Asia in Imperium and the first time I got Asia in The World. The "random" positions seem to almost always be the same. I almost always got Italia or Aegyptus in Imperium, I got Texarkana every time on the USA, and in The World I am usually in Egypt or South America. It doesn't really matter where I end up in Imperium or The World though. The strategy is the same and the times were roughly the same (maybe 30 seconds here or there). Yes. I did mean to take India. Sometimes it is better to take an adjoining county instead of waiting for a rebellion to happen provided it is a small county that can offer little resistance. It is also gave me more time to make sure I was in a good position to split the Bishop's empire. I am not going to say him losing his castle was pre-planned, but if they are stupid enough to draft an enormous army out to take another town that has higher population, then luck is on your side.

    Lmao. I really hope people don't use this as an actual walkthrough. 😆

    This includes a long siege of a Motte and Bailey. I need faster gamespeed to siege these massive castles.

    Don't miss the part where I siege the wooden palisade like I was taught by the pros.
