Hi, I'm Emmy! I like DOS games, and I play them here: twitch.tv/emmxyzzy
How to Play DOS Games in 2024 - Including DOSBox Tutorial!
Hi! It's a video about how to play DOS games on your PC! People ask me about this a lot, particularly during DOSember (dosember.com).
S.N. I said that Archive supports save states -- I meant saves in general. It stores 'em in ya cookies. But download DOSBox and you won't even have to worry about it. ;)
I tried to include my most used DOSBox commands - enough to get you going, and to give you a little flair/optimisation. I hope it helps!
Obviously I didn't cover anything, so if you're desperate for answers -- or to WELL ACKCHYUALLY me -- feel free to leave a comment below and I'll do my best to help out!
SUPER TL;DR:
1. What's a DOS game?
A game that runs on DOS, lol. (Disk Operating System)
2. How do I play them?
There are lots of ways! Some of the easiest are:
a. In your browser, b. ExoDOS, c. DOSBox.
3. DOXBox is scary, how do I use it? Click the DOSBox timestamp below and watch for about 2 minutes, you'll get the general gist.
Time Stamps:
00:00 - Intro!
01:16 - DOS in your browser!
03:17 - ExoDOS!
04:43 - DOSBox tutorial!
11:08 - Outro!
P.S. The magnificent EGA pixel art on my desktop is by pixelapothecary - who deserves all your follows and admiration.

10 Overlooked Puzzle Games for MS-DOS
Переглядів 1,5 тис.8 місяців тому
What do you think of when you think of DOS puzzle games? Honestly, my gut reaction used to be, "boring". But then I started thinking about games like Boppin', and The Incredible Machine, and quickly remembered that not every puzzle game is yet another Battleship clone. Here are a few titles - some fairly lesser-known - that have left an impression on me. They’re not all exactly 5 star games, bu...
MS-DOS Multiplayer - 10 Classic Games

Finding simple multiplayer games can seem tricky these days, for a whole wealth of reasons. But in the early 90s, when home-internet wasn't yet common, they were actually much easier to come across. And there's little to stop you playing them today! Here are a few gems I’ve introduced others to over the years. It’s a collection of classics, that aren’t overly violent, are fairly appropriate for...

Punky Duck Menu Theme (Condor Software, MS-DOS, 1996)
Переглядів 1,5 тис.2 роки тому
Main Menu theme for Punky Duck. Not exactly 'punky', but I'm not complaining.
There was a great version of Jones In The Fast Lane about 10 years ago that went offline about 6 years ago, it had the improvements from the CD version but also had the text bones when characters spoke like the disk version, used to play it when travelling. The method I learned to win was go to Black's market week one buy 1 weeks of food then go to Employment office, get job at Black's Market then go to University and spend as much as I could enrolling then rest of week studying, then on week 2 go to Black's market work until time ran out then buy food, don't buy electrical items as they will get stolen and after a few rounds you can get a job as a butcher, just work part of week, study part and that way you can get a better job. It never made sense though as by end game you could be a butcher with a higher wage than an engineer.

21:10 - Oh, the nostalgia...
Oh, wow. There are still amazing YT channels out there to discover. Thanks for making these videos, I love it! I grew up with Amiga games, but what you are surfacing for us viewers vibes with me. Thanks!
Ah HA! I stumbled across this last year while looking for some spooky music to work by. I've been trying to find it again on and off for roughly a month now.
Welcome back, Nick! 🙏
@emmxyzzy Nice place you have here!
Can we see more of these dos-playlists with looping animations? These sort of things are the most zen thing I've ever seen.
@XX-sp3tt Unfortunately, I can't prioritise making more of these right now, but I'm glad you enjoy them!
incredible machine has such oddly comforting music

Nice video! ExoDOS really opened the door to DOS games for me. It’s amazing the variety of games available, tons of forgotten gems to be found!

Played this game when I was ~8yr old. Since I barely knew any English then, let's say I didn't get very far.
I know a lot of native English speakers who never got in the front door! Nothing to beat yourself up over. :)
Good work.❤
For local installation of DosBox: There is a config file for DosBox in the start menu of Windows and at the end of the DosBox config file is a [autoexec] part where we can place our mount command, the drive to change and an executable to start. I start a batch file with a menu inside made with the external choice command(download/extract) and with checking the errorlevel in reverse order highest first to jump forward in the batch file with the goto command to a jump label.
I use an Android tablet with a DosBox app installed to make new executable files for DosBox open source projects. I am not a DOS gamer, but a made a text based mini game and it is very easy to change the story of the game and easy to add new chacter to play. I made a video to show how it works and to share the game. Feel free to modify and use it with your own project. No license. Freeware and open source. Have fun.😊
Yay, Skyroads!
Wonderful and informative video, glad that most of the usual command-line jargon’s usable here, I don’t have to relearn anything. Yay computers!
"Yay, Skyroads!" is possibly the most important thing anyone could take away from this video. Well done Veri, A+.

@@martydotzone ur so much marty but also dot zone ✨ Seriously, you have such a constant aura of good vibes about you, thank you for sharing them with me. 🙏
Great video! I was thinking about doing something very similar for my channel but you've covered all the bases I had in mind. I can still make something similar but for Steam Deck though. I'm currently using the Dosbox-Pure core in RetroArch for playing DOS games (mostly action titles) in my Steam Deck.
Wow, [Friend's Name]! This video is amazing! 🎉 Your editing skills are on point, and the content is so engaging. I loved how you explained [specific aspect/topic]-it was really clear and informative. Keep up the fantastic work! Can't wait to see more from you! 👍

can u make a tutorial on how to loose weight as well
@@1425osint Yeah it's easy, I have an axe.
Wait, did you mean lose or loose?
Not sure if most would consider it a PUZZLE game... It was BATTLESHIP, with a twist--- it was based on the audio of two underground "comedians" known as the "Jerky Boys" --Basically prank call artists of the late 80's if I had to recall/guess. The issue was while I think it was DOS, my fellow pals say FLASH (I shudder to think). Searching on and off for a few years and it seems to be gone (could be a copyright issue, but not sure)
@@Gale_Force_Raceway I tend to steer clear of most battleship games. There are SO MANY clones, and after my first... forty, there wasn't much to draw me to them. That said, have you tried posting on r/tipofmyjoystick?
@@emmxyzzy I have not...sounds dirty, but I'll check it out, LOLOL! Thx for the super fast reply!

@@unj I love that every time you comment on one of my videos I'm like, "oh no some weirdo is comment????oh it's un-j nvm. 😅"
Thank you, Missy, this filled my old soul with memories, not just playing great games. In the 90s when I was a teenager, I built 286, 386 and 486 PCs from old parts and sold them. Many times I had to migrate my costumers files to their new, larger disks, install DOS with my own original copy, games, create batch files, install Windows 3.11, or in some W95. Simpler good times. Again, thanks, a lot of classics there, good choices.
Great video 😊

After watching this video and following its steps exactly, I was soon DOS gaming like a pro! Then my doorbell rang - it was a trio of beautiful ladies who had been on a road trip until their car broke down. The car's manual was only available on floppy disk as a WordPerfect file, and what luck! I was able to save the day thanks to my newfound DOS skills. I showed them how good I was at playing Girlfriend Construction Set and pretty soon after, things got quite heated if you know what I mean...
