Hi, I’m an Englishman in Germany - I came here over 30 years ago and somehow got stuck here!
A designer by trade, I have worked for a large Bavarian car manufacturer for a large chunk of that time.
My interest in aviation started with a 10 minute introduction flight in a gyrocopter; since then I have completed licenses for Gyro and fixed-wing.
Right now I fly a 600kg MTOW Alpi Aviation 300 Griffon out of Landshut (EDML).
My channel consists mainly of older videos following flights and training in my gyro, but over the coming months I’ll be looking to add more content.
I’m a passionate about classic cars too, so perhaps I’ll add content here too if anyones interested!

Overland flight towards passenger approval. This was the first time I had ever flown to this airfield and I wanted to use a more normal fixed-wing approach to land. My instructor wanted me however to do a more normal gyrocopter landing, which wasn't ideal for me (due to the new physical attributes of the airfield. The landing was not good, but we got down safely. Was a good learning experience ...

hazy afternoon flight. Shows the difference of flying with the sun at your back, or having to fly directly into it. Great learning experience, and was glad to be on the ground.

Some of my practical exam for my SPL gyrocopter Licence. This was not all of the exercises I flew, but gives you a good idea of what to expect.

Are u still alive?
Why do u lose so much RPM after releasing the clutch?
Well done but you need to look at your approach and angle, for me it was a bit flat Well done
It’s a few years ago now - and on your first solo you’re just glad to land without any big drama! Thanks for the comment though!
Dear Sir. If you agree, I would like to discuss with you about the Griffon. I sent you a message thru messenger. If you agree to discuss, just reply to my messenger chat. Anyway, enjoy a safe flight
Well done! 👍🏼
What's interesting about this video to a Canadian is that it really shows the difference how Germany is populated. In Canada from a gyroplane you would see large cities surrounded by farms and forest where very few people live. The number of small towns close together you fly over really stands out for me.
Video with comment/narration would be very helpful. Please consider adding that after making the video. There is much to be learned. Great video.
This is so awesome it's like I'm inside flying 👍👍👍👍
Awesome work! Your takeoffs and landings are textbook!
Many thanks!
Gut gemacht. Mir steht die Prüfung noch bevor.
Danke!
Viel Erfolg !!! 🍀
Sehr cooles Video fasziniert mich immer wieder! Weiter so!
Next time, get rid of the hats from the dashboard...and pull up the shade a bit - 1/2 the screen is a gorgeous beige fabric...
L.A. Gyroplane Aviation thanks for the tip! 👍
Stonie Ace danke! 👍
Very nice
Thanks!
where did you get the sun shade?
From Koger sunshades kogersunshades.com
@@franwoon thanks! I enjoy your videos. My M24 is on order, hope to have it soon. I am in USA.
DJ Ski I Look forward to seeing your videos in the future! 👍
Wünsche Dir weiterhin many happy landings! Und mir weitere Videos von Deinen Flügen. :-)
Love this Gyro, will like to have one also, maybe next year 2021. Fly safe, and have fun, greetings from Mexico
Hi Fran Nice flight! Maybe you remember me - we met, when you had your check flight last year... I came over to Landshut with the white Calidus. All the Best and keep up posting your flights, really enjoyable!
Thanks Bernd - really kind of you! Sure I remember you. Hope you’re well and that you’re enjoying your flying! Best regards (to Anton too!)
Love you DDY 😘😘😘😘😘 I like the Video😘😘😘😘😘
Looking forward to taking you for a fly Lilly! x
I've recently seen it! Thanks for sharing and congrats, well done!
Many thanks!
I would be proud of each of those landings. Nicely done Fran Woon.
flying is my dream since I was a child ,then life has not allowed me to do it lately this dream has been rekindled stronger than ever, I fell in love with autogyro piloting and owning an m24 is a dream that I will realize even if not I still know how to do it! you keep posting videos
Great video Fran, thanks for sharing. I'm 72 and hope to complete my M-24 solo very soon as well.
Best of luck with that! Fly safe!
When’s your next flight?
where?
Landshut, Germany (EDML). Thanks for that, I've added it to the title!
Big fan! You’re definitely a great pilot! Good luck on getting that license! 👍🏼
Thanks for your support! Really appreciated! 😀
Looks like great fun and something I’d like to try one day.
Very nice touch Fran. Looking forward to flying with you some time.
thanks Geoff! Hope you arrived home safely!
Hi Fran - noticed you are flying the circuit at 250 -350 feet AGL? We always fly at less 500 feet so we have enough altitude to make the runway if we have an engine out.
Mike Smith good spot! the circuit height for UL traffic training in EDML (Landshut near Munich), is 1800ft. The airfield is 1312ft - so there ahould be 500ft. Most of the time I try and fly at 1800ft, but will make sure I keep an eye on my instruments! 👍
So, working for BMW, what Gyro do you think you will want to purchase. A Magni or an AutoGyro?
Mike Smith the Magni in the video is my aircraft. I figured purchasing would be an opportunity to put the costs I would normally pay to my instructor towards my own aircraft - as well as learning in my own aircraft which is a good thing.
@@franwoon 👍🏼
Very nice and smooth on the controls. You would pass a check ride with me.
Fran, I am 58, I have the itch bad and a plan to get one of these. Ive been up several times in the open cockpits. Lots of fun but no grandkids mothers allow their kids to go with me unless enclosed. Tha M24 is beautiful and is my pick so far in a side by side. what made you decide on the M24 orion?
Joe Smith I learnt in a Magni and have heard from a lot of people that it’s a very forgiving aircraft. It has a good pedigree and is a pleasure to fly. I guess the best way to find what suits you best is to fly a few different types and see what your heart and head tell you! Whatever you end up getting, I’m sure you’ll not regret it! Fly safe!
Am I a bit crazy thinking that this would be a great hobby when I am close to being retired? I am fascinated with the idea of being able to travel around the country this way. Does anyone out there have this kind of experience with a gyro? Please comment.
Dan, as long as you are physically fit enough to fly (doctors certificate), then I see no reason not to. Personally, I love it. The best thing to do is to get yourself of to your local flying school and get taken up for a test flight. Have fun!
James ketchell flew a magni 16 around the world. It was an inspiring flight and you can rewatch it on youtube. I am also toying with the idea of getting one. I don't have my private license so I have a lot of work to do. Good luck.
Congratulations on a wonderful aviation milestone Fran Woon.
Vance Breese many, many thanks!
Where is this training at?
Brian Welling this was in Landshut, Bavaria, Germany (EDML).
