Welcome to the Sometimes Builds. Where we work on projects we promised to start "sometime!". We have a 1988 VW Vanagon, Toyota Tundra, Toyota Tacoma, 2000 Subaru Impreza, 1998 Subaru Impreza RSTI and a 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Oh we also do camping and work at Uncle Charlies property.... and fix the occasional septic system. ugh.

Sometimes Builds Mid-Year Garage Update - The State of All "Sometimes" Projects

In this video I go through every project in the garage and give an update on where things are and whats to come throughout the rest of the year. This video has very much became my yearly check-in video on what vehicles I have, and what I'm working on at the time. Sadly, in watching this video and then last years video... a lot of the #vanagon and #subaru RS projects have 'sometimes'd their way ...

Building a DIY 4x4 Pool Border - Hide the Mud and Weeds for CHEAP!

In this video I add a very simple (simple = cheap) 4x4 border around my Costco Bestway Pool. The year before it just sat on a tarp, getting muddy, it just looked trashy. First Mow of the Spring Season! - Restoring Uncle Charlies Cabin

You have worn lifters, put in some step oil treatment
Shout out to Mr. Farmer!!!!😊
Nice trip! Love lighthouses and hearing the ocean.
First and firsts
What’s the part number
Trailer Lamp Control Module: 13554026 - $84.69 (at the time of this recording)
I think this is what my issue. At least I hope so
Did you have to get it reprogrammed
@@brandonehrke4549 nope just replaced the old with the new and it was good to go
First and second comment though
Seconds
Bought the tool you recommended and finished up the brake job last night - Thanks for the explainer!
Glad it helped!
Thirds. Had to go to hunt valley horsepower this am.
Where s sara😢
❤
Dude you push the button on the ladder pin. You don’t need to hammer them out. They glide effortlessly in and out.
🤷♂️ for whatever reason mine would not slide at all. Hopefully won’t have to take them off again though.
preferably home assistant (use a cheap and low power computer as a server so you don't always need internet for your smart camper, this would also double as a homelab especially if you installed proxmox and installed vms on it, you could setup jellyfin as well or nextcloud for local cloud storage)
Any fish in that lil pond?
Yes! And LOTS of tadpoles
Excellent video. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
First and first. Winning.
Get Charlie a windproof mic. 😂. Or having removed the microphone from his nostril. Joking aside, great video.
Hahah 😂 one of those unfortunate things you don’t realize until it’s way too late. Thanks for watching!
how do you dispense soap
Put the soap into the lower container. There’s a switch on top to activate it. But you also have to adjust the pressure on the nozzle side or it won’t mix in. It’s very weird and confusing for sure.
Sometimes builds KICKS ASS!
Appreciate you!!!! Thank you for being here from the beginning ❤️ we’ll get this van running one day 😆
I use an older GL iNet 2.4 travel router with an Anker 4-port hub attached to the usb. Then 4 usb drives installed on the Anker. I have 3 tv's in my RV, all with a Firestick which connects wireless 2.4 to the GL iNet locally (no external wifi).......then use Nova Media Player app to connect to the usb drives with all of my movies on them. Works like a charm with 3 people trying to watch different movies.
Now that is an awesome setup!! Definitely something similar as my long term goals.
I have 2016 outback .. love your video brother I'm in Canada.. I love tech.. have a great day
Thank you! I still use the Comma3 every single day. It has definitely changed driving into a much better experience. I’m now at the point where if I ever have to get a replacement for my outback - I will only get a car that is supported by comma3. 😆
You have covers for all toys why are u not using santa
🫣
Time to pave the front yard into a parking lot.
Time for a bigger garage! Or just a lift.
I as well need to do some 4 wheeling soon
Also really liking the tag line.
First and first.
First and first. 7am what
I just bought a 2023 Sierra and the taillights on the trailer stay on all the time. I also get running light errors on the console in the truck. I'm assuming the same issue as yours.
Yea, exact same issue!
@@TheSometimesBuilds So did this module just go bad, and if I replace it, will this one go bad also?
@@TheSometimesBuilds Fixed it 100%. Thanks for the video
You’re welcome! Also I found out in the meantime that since this is a new part number that it supersedes the old one as this one has revised hardware. So it shouldn’t happen again.
@@TheSometimesBuilds Awesome to know. Thanks again
Not the first or second today.
Step up your game
New Sometimes Build shirt!
I’m going to remember the phrase you said “always clean up your mess” for future 😂
😂 what are you talking about my garage is always clean!
@@TheSometimesBuilds no. Someone’s lucky they got a ride to work as I had a migraine and retreated to darkness early
What are you talking about lol
Do I need a pass just to ride the trail in my vehicle and not an atv?
Yes you need it for any use of the trails. Helps them maintain the trails.
@@TheSometimesBuilds awesome thank you!
Seconds. My that looks familiar
First!
Ls swap it
First and first
Holy crap!!!!
Damn it. Seconds
About time you like my comment. Jeeeez
First!🎉
Hahah beat @CTSVBiggie 😂
Check your engine electrical grounds. Should be one with good contact left side engine to left firewall. If it's the small braided cable replace with a plastic shielded battery style cable from local parts store. Check distributor cap, rotor button, and plug/plug wires next. The loud tapping noise sounds like a hydraulic lifter or two have bled out. Sometimes they'll pump back up. Might be good to check valve clearances if it hasn't been done yet.
Replace engine. 😅there’s no other better fix for misfire. You could try smoke testing the engine and see if you have a vacuum leak. Also..You’ve got a stuck lifter from the sounds of it.. sometimes lifter oil by liqui moly helps. I replaced my stuck lifter and it went right back after about 100 miles.. 😂 I say ditch the lights. I made curtains for my van using flat aluminum bars from Lowe’s.. then we hang small lights from the bars..it’s easy..
🫠 I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that! Very true about the vac leak. The hoses are rotten and that very well could be the issue. I’ll grab some lifter oil and try that too. Next Vanagon video (filmed and scheduled for release already) I did plugs, wires, cap and rotor and injectors. Improved power but it will still hesitate and stall out at times. 😩
@@TheSometimesBuilds sorry man.. it does sound like a leak of sorts. Vanagons are frustrating as heck.. even after I’ve replaced the engine, rebuilt the tranny, and gobs of other things…mine still has gremlins… there’s a reason why old people own them…it’s because they have patients for the continuous diagnosing of problems.. lol
Always check spark plugs first. Check the valve lash. I'm with you on not wanting to ruin the trim but self tapping the lights on may be a last ditch option.
Yeah had to do the self tappers. Just tired of dealing with those things everytime I work on it. Doing a full tuneup in the next Vanagon video. Plugs, wires, cap rotor and injectors. Filmed and scheduled. (spoiler: but it didn’t fix the problem 🫠)
FYI hot glue melts at high temperatures. Like the kind you get in a car baking in the sun for days. Liquid nails
Yeah didn’t last long at all.
First and first inside 20 minutes
interesting! *browses to website* *sees price* never mind!
Just noticed the demo ranch shirt. Nice
I wear it way too much haha. In places I probably shouldn’t 😂
First and first. Even at noon.
So I’m dealing with the same problem on my ‘21 right now but I just have no lights on my trailer. Ordered the part but was told it will need to be programmed to my truck. Did y’all have to do that?
We don’t need to do any programming. And it’s worked flawlessly since doing it.
The trailer lighting module doesn’t show up in sps so no
How big is the dead spot in your lawn now?
I finally went and looked and it’s not terrible. I used the lid from the other barrel and had that under as a catch. So yes there is a dead spot but that’s only from the barrel sitting there for two months now unmoved 😂
No plasma cutter???
I wish lol. I don't have that fancy stuff yet... nor do i trust myself with that yet. 🤣
@@TheSometimesBuilds You can get one for $200 or less. Very much worth it!
