Blacks has its moments, but that moment is usually shared with another guy trying to take the same wave even if your clearly letting people have waves and waiting your turn the unpaid pro surfers here are waiting, and will always be waiting. The good surfers here are usually friendly if your sitting in the lineup and giving waves they let it rip too. But usually this place has 4/5 spots along the coast to choose from and enough people below the lip to really enjoy the experience of surfing.

I got surrounded by a fishing pod once, sitting in the whirl, these beasties are impressive. Blacks used to have just a couple but hey they must like those clean la nina swells...

Ocean beach in sf is more consistent and less crowded and just as good

This wave sucks. Not worth the walk, wouldn’t advise surfing here.

Same old mushy San Diego. Hardly anyone actually catching meaningful waves. Lots of close outs on larger sets. Bunch of guys sitting on thier boards

2:18 This happened to me at Blacks on a 4'-6' day in 1978 or so. Ended up retrieving two halves of my broken Matrix swallowtail - the guy hit it perfectly to snap it in half dropping down after a beautiful, vicious lip-smack. The board was used, but I'd only had it a week. Shite happens. Great choice of tunes, and as always, your footage perfectly captures the feel of surfing my lifetime favorite break. Merry Christmas!!!
