No wonder why I loved Anne of Green Gables so much as a kid!

Thank you for making this video. It was beyond inspiring. I, too, am an author with autism and this video has helped me realize I am not alone. I liked how these authors wrote characters in their books who were autistic. I did the same thing with one of my books, The Kaligen Experiment, which features an autistic prodigy who brings dinosaurs back to life. I based the character on my own experiences of living with autism and how I would react in those situations.

I am autistic, too. I have Asperger's specifically. I haven't read Anne of Green Gables but I understand what you mean because there really isn't a lot of representation for autistic people out there whether that be books, movies, TV shows, etc. I, also, really could not find a whole lot of characters I could relate to growing up. Even now it is hard to find good representation. I think my favorite confirmed autistic character is Tenenbaum from the BioShock series.

Highly recommend Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde if you’re able read it. The Autism Rep in the book is beautifully done, especially since the autism spectrum is herself.

This was a great video. You should read 'Can you see me?' by Libby Scott. It's written by an autistic teenager and I think you might like it. I loved it, even though it's targeted at young teens and I{m 21, it made me feel very understood and my experience at school and making friends started to finally make sense.

Have you checked out Planet Earth Is Blue? As a person on the spectrum, I'd heavily suggest it. While I'm not on every area of the spectrum as the protagonist, I still was able to believe a person like her could exist because of how human she is in the book. My favorite novel so far!

I actually really liked The Guinevere Deception but I agree that Arthur needed more development! Mordred and Lancelot were great. And I did like the knot magic but I'm also predisposed to like magic systems that remind me of knitting or textile crafts or something like that, haha I also really enjoyed Soul of the Sword! can't wait for the last book in the series which comes out really soon. Yes I don't like that Courting Darkness was marketed as a stand alone series! I really liked it but you definitely need to read the original trilogy first! and agreed, Genevieve really frustrated me by the end! hope you're doing well and staying safe!

Have some of your opinions changed since you posted the video? I’m looking up books with autistic characters for when I have time to read again. My only recomendation so far is queens of geek. It’s the first autism rep I acually liked (but I avoided everything about autism after I was diagnosed until last year, so I haven’t read/seen much)

Ah, you chose a book for each of the 17 prompts! I think I'll be lucky if I can do 2-3 extra outside of the required 5 😅 I also tried to stray away from adult fantasy, even though that's my favorite genre. I know this is an older video, but as someone on the spectrum who has read The Curious Incident, I'm going to have to recommend you give it a pass. The main character is as stereotypical as it gets, has no emotions or truly effective coping mechanisms, and is not actually identified as having any specific disorder in the book itself. It's very poorly done and perpetuates many of the negative stereotypes surrounding the condition - so much so that I've read reviews on it condemning, not the poor representation or the character, but the condition itself, saying things along the lines of "I wish there were a pre-birth test for autism, then we could put those creatures down so they won't ever be a burden on society" and "what kind of idiot parent would ever give their autistic son a knife; no autistic person should ever be trusted with a knife." No, I'm not exaggerating, either. It really is that bad. That said, thanks a ton for the recommendations! <3

Great unhaul! I love unhauling books. If I had a UA-cam channel I could have made 20 unhaul videos hahaha. I'm working towards having a tiny tbr. I couldn't get into shadow and bone either! I found it actually pretty boring. I don't get the hype. I gave it two shots and didnt get half way either time.
