Schoener Ship's Engine 164/2 running on steam
Its original burner is missing, so here with a standard 2-wick burner, after a restoration. The wonderful "tile-floor" lithography has not survived the last 120years - the whole engine was badly burnt and covered in soot and dust...

Seems a little small to move a ship
😊 So true. It‘s this special layout (i.e. vertical cyl above crank) that is called „ship‘s engine“, as it was used in ships when propellers/screws became standard…
Thank you and thank you! Pls post more videos on how to assemble and make these thing.
Thank you! But sorry, I am much too engaged and focussed when I re-assemble such a 120 year old fellow than that I could take a video of it...
Failure is always part of a build! We learn from our mistakes, make changes and improve. I think that's a super cool project. Keep up the good work!
Right, we never stop learning! Problem is that you won't find an original 6-teeth sprocket replacement, the home made 10 teeth makes it pretty fast...
Hi Arnie, it was meant to make you laugh!! Probably the only steam powered screw unscrewer ever 😉
Sorry - this is funny😂and I had to laugh
thank you!
Wow
This looks sick, did you build all of this yourself?
All classic vintage German toys, Carette, Plank, Doll, Hess...

?? The engine runs smoothly on the original settings. Slightly clunking sound rather due to worn bearings - after 120years...
@@TH-wj9tydat is ook goed mogelijk!
Boil the kettle and fill it with hot water so it doesn't take all day to warm up🍻😋
@@TH-wj9ty Geile Teile! Tolle Technik.
❤
Schön, die Maschine laufen zu sehen. Läuft prima.
Interesting valve arrangement, works very well.
Interesting valve design!
Right, thank you. Quite hard to find. Bing used a similar poppet-valve gear, but with spring coils for each valve. The Doll valve-models are far more sophisticated - but for some versions the valve gear is fake...
Nice job getting this one running! 🤠
Thank you! It still needs some adjustments, now that I have tightened the cylinder screws I must also shorten the one holding the cylinder front cover...
I had the rocker type; it could not be reversed.
Do you mean the rod-/slide-valve version? Both versions cannot be reversed (which can easily be achieved by mounting the drive belt in a "lying-eight" fashion for running accessories). Thanks for your comment! In my channel you find a video where it is driving a Doll Hammer!
My father built me a steam engine when I was 6.
What a wonderful engine! I saw the link and thought it was some sort of Mamod from the 70's (SE1a for example) because that's what I saw my grandfather using with my elder brother (OK, I was jealous!) But look at the mechanics on this beauty! I never envisaged that you could get cams and bevel drives... Great post 😀
Thank you, my pleasure!
I was notified about a comment, which I don't find here? Well, yes this engine was produced by J. Schoenner, Nürnberg. Here the version sold by "Dr Oscar Schneiders Lehr-Mittel-Anstalt", actually a Leipzig based retailer or mail order service. "Lipsia" is the latinized form of "Leipzig", btw.
Beautiful engine I wish I could obtain one but they are extremely rare to find in the states
Runs beautifully!
Thank you. Camshaft wobbles slightly but who wouldn't after 110years.
I don't speak this language but that shit looks cool
Doll & Co portable overtype steam engine model No 502/1 (the smallest) about 1927 and thresher model by unknown maker, sold by "K. Fischl" toy emporium, Prague, before WWI.... ;-)
Cool video Thomas ! 😊 Thanks for sharing !
The only mistake was taking a cork block as base for the hammer. Muffled the noise = half the fun ;-)
@@TH-wj9ty 😅
Is this model of real machine?
I don't think so!
I think you need the rocker/ lever to be beam type to transfer force up and over the and strengthen the lower of the rocker joint and the upper of spindle bearing and lower structure and you could press button studs with it. Really nice unit. Well done.
High Ken, the BSL hammer is not a masterpiece of German engineering, I am happy I succeeded in getting it moving quite smoothly (long story why this company making screws suddenly started meddling in the toy steam business). Have you seen the Sachsenmeister hammer in the other vid I posted? That's a cute thing - it's pneumatic!
I don't know why this has been suggested, but it seems like a very neat little steam engine powering a TINY hammer. Lots of rotation for not many stamps of the hammer, I'm assuming there's a power transfer, and you could flatten fingers, coins, very small rocks with the hammer.
Right, this was just a first test run of the engine after a thorough overhaul. The BSL hammer (very rare product from the GDR/DDR) has been overhauled as well, so I took the opportunity to see if it works at all. There is a lot of inertia in the system... Will try again with better transmission...
Tolle Maschine!
Danke. Recht selten.
Isn't it steyr?
No, this is the Carl Steyer company, located in Freiberg, Saxony. The steam accessories were produced in the 1950s, in DDR/GDR times.
@@TH-wj9ty Ahh well. Good to know, thank you.
Do not let the ants see this we do not need them entering an Industrial Revolution
Nice !!!
Merci!
Very good. ;)
Nope, live steam. You can see the blue-ist flame of the burner under the boiler. Sorry for the bad quality of the video!
¿clockwork?
Nice work
Schöner Fallhammer.👍
Leider etwas übermalt. Aber danke!
Beeindruckendes Modell!
I love all the action.
Fun!
Beautiful engine!
Danke für die guten Vorführungen.
My pleasure ;-)
