Beautiful view of our part of the big green marble. How can we risk it's "marvel" for the sake of a small amount of our nation's oil needs. More drilling is costly in so many ways and clearly, not the answer. We must reduce consumption, and incentivize conservation.

@jasperBland Whether to sign off depends on the politics of the state, county, park, or municipality doing the signing. Some want the oil removed and some don't want to draw attention to the oil remaining on their beaches.

@jasperBland This is why they pulverize the oil into tiny pieces and leave it on the beach. If you can't see it, they can legally leave it and BP does not get fined for the pounds otherwise collected. There have been independent municipalities that have incorporated the lights into their clean-up practices, keeping BP coming back to clean.

@jasperBland -We keep asking them to use this method and have demonstrated it for the Coast Guard, NOAA, and FL DEP. They refuse to use it. It would seem they do not want to see the oil. Their certifications for calling a beach clean are based on visual inspections, less than 1% visible oil and the beach can be certified clean and removed from clean-up activity.

@jasperBland- Jasper, you are incorrect. Very few biological specimens on the beach will glow this color. The material in this video was sent to a certified lab for GC/MS testing and was found to be oil matching the signature of the MC 252 well. If you will go to our website, you will find links to the actual lab reports .

@gonecyco Glad you are interested. The 395 may show some but you'll get a lot of visible (purple) light mixed in and the 51 led lights are not nearly as powerful as the model we use. The wavelength you need is 365NM. Even a low power light will work if you are up close to the sample and in complete darkness. So, it will work better as an inspection light rather than as a search light. I've tried many of the less expensive lights and none even come close to our Vertek light, but at $2500...

It may be good for dectecting, but I don't agree about "removing" dispersed oil. This don't make sence.

sounds like chromium! sounds typical. apparently they won't let me post websites, but EPA has lists of Corexit 9527 in which chromium is the #1 ingredient. Also have heard reports of benzene (assoc. w/ leukemia) & toluene, which has killed kids in a dumpster (enclosed fumes) BEWARE! Don't expose yourselves or your children! Avoid fumes & plumes!!
