Elwood T. Cholmondeley, Sep 8th 2010 - Feb 2nd 2024, didn't get to see his 14th birthday, but we remember him every day, and on what would have been the fourteenth anniversary of his birth, I take to the skies in MSFS over Sucia Island in the San Juan Islands, Washington, near where his ashes are scattered, to draw using GPS tracking of my C172 maneuvers at 1500' MSL, my best attempt at a wiene...

From the South Sound out to the Coast in 4 minutes! Ride along with a time-lapse IFR adventure as we bust through a layer at 3000, cloudsurf a bit, then bring it down on the ILS into Hoquiam. Sure, I used a little clever editing, but doesn't that just save us all a little time? Enjoy!

Nice work! Only suggestion would be to maintain a higher speed during the final approach segment. You'd typically fly the approach at ~80kts in a 172, then reduce to landing speed once visual (even if you're breaking out at a mins). It's easier to arrive at the FAF doing 80-90kts and then maintain that, rather than descending on the glideslope and trying to reduce to 66kts. ATC will also have a heart attack if you slow to 65kts when you're 5 miles out if there is any sort of traffic behind you.
This is my favorite plane in the sim right now.
Do you know where I can find a manual for the Pilatus PC-12 NGX? Asobo and Microsoft have not made it available. Simworks Studios also does not have this plane on their site, which surprises me.
I have been looking for the BOOTCAMP SERIES on the PC-12 but havent had luck. Or I dont know what Im looking for.
How in the world did you get nav to work. It won’t engage.
hello, i couldnt find the pressure regulation button cause in carrier i had to climb to FL300 and everytime i couldt stay over 10 min cause i need oxy. i looked but i couldnt find it, had somebody any information for me?
I found an oxygen lever by the first officer yoke
@@wilkinspena6342 i found it to but it doesnt help, dont know why but yeah, now i only fly 12000ft
@@neogurke It's currently bugged on the PC-12 and you can't fly higher than FL170 without being oxygen starved.
@@battlec43 i also cant fly with oxy started. Tank u for u comm i appreciate it
My trackir also not working in 2024. Great video!
It didn’t work for me until I opened the TrackIR software itself, clicked the ball icon in the top left and chose “Check for Game Updates” and restarted TrackIR.
How'd you get the Tobii working? Mine is dead in MSFS2024. Thx!
great video. love the pilot flow also. when you do the cold start on the pc12 can u figure out the Pressure system? i cant seem to get it to work at all. like its bugged?
The vertical precision on this plane is not working, that’s why we get this “unable RNP” message. Neither RNAV nor ILS GS work even though they can lock on but it would send you to the ground way before runway.
I am delighted with the work of the 360 camera. Music selected exclusively according to the theme
Love the Airwolf reference😂

Hi CPT, what do you think about this plane? It is realistic aircraft?
Hey Charles! I just successfully flew the rating. Your videos have really helped get through these, so again, thank you. I look forward to watching more of yours. Have you done any of the charter flights? I'm switching to the Pilatus PC-12 and I'll probably try some of the charter flights, at least the first one, before too long. Have to get used to the new aircraft first. Best with your endeavors!
Congratulations!! I know what a gauntlet doing all these ratings is, so VERY well done! :) I haven't done the charter flights yet but I have gotten into small business jets and turboprops so I guess that'd be a good next step, yes? Many thanks for the feedback on the videos and very glad they were helpful!
@@CharlesFlightSimGuy That was my thinking flying the Pilatus.
Nice going! I'm getting ready to do mine. The only issue with the video is that ATC volume is so loud, it's drowning out your narrative. Otherwise, congrats and thanks for the series.
Best of luck on yours! I think it probably makes sense for me to redo these vids given the volume issues - maybe I can do them in MSFS 2024 when it comes out!
@@CharlesFlightSimGuy That would probably be good to do if you have the time. Your narratives make great study materials especially for flight planning. Thanks for making these. I like using your vids as training material where I can actually fly along with you and get the procedures right and i will be referencing them after the I-11 when I plan longer IFR flights.
@@megacode2 Thanks for flying along with me. I'm glad they're useful and I'll see what I can do to cut together new ones for 2024. What would you think about me doing these in a faster, low-wing airplane like a Cirrus?
@@CharlesFlightSimGuy Well, speaking for myself, of course, I'm flying a Centurion 210T and a Pilatus PC-12. Not jets but pretty fast. I actually, sometimes, need to pause the sim in order to not get too far ahead of the flight I'm watching. The Pilatus is beginning to become my new, preferred aircraft but at the moment, I'm still getting used to the complexity of it so I'll most likely fly the 210 for this rating. I know Keith from PE switches aircraft for these videos so I don't see a problem with you doing that.
Hello Charles, I hope everything is good in Charlesland. I have a question. I'm just starting to build the Misc panel for my F16 sim. It has 5 toggles and 2 press buttons and an led. So my question is...If there are 5 ground pins on the arduino board and you have, as I do, 8 things to hook up, where do you get the other 3 ground pins from? Is that where a person would need a bread board?
Awesome!
Aww, sweet Elwood. What a great memorial for him. This is so wonderful and thoughtful of you! <3 RIP Elwood. My godfather died in April and a bunch of us helped scatter his Ashe’s in Penobscot Bay back in August. I’m glad you scattered Elwood’s ashes in the Sound, somehow. Burial at sea seems like a good sendoff. I’m very sorry that you lost him. He was a good friend to you and Alicia. Sending you love and many goodthoughts! <3 I was telling my partner about you and went to find your videos and we both love dogs, and they know how much I love aviation, so we’re watching this together. Thinking of you. <3
It's too bad the PE control freqs were so loud that every time someone was talking it completely drowned out your narrative (a lot of it). I'm in the process of getting ready to fly this rating. Thanks for posting this.
What a great dog ! He'll be waiting for you
Great Memorial flight
Did you ever get any further with this project? Came across this because I got the idea in my head about mating a VR headset with an aviation helmet and I went into a rabbit hole trying to figure out if anyone managed to do just this. I looked at the website as well, it seems like it hasn't been updated beyond this point.
I stopped at Phase 4. The form factor of the VR headsets I've tried are too wide for the face opening of the helmet, meaning the lenses would sit too far away from the eyes to be usable. I wonder if more modern helmets may have a larger opening for the face to fit VR headsets, but I got the helmet I got :) Thanks for checking out the project!
Why are you wearing a face mask?
Very cool! I was supposed to go on an F-16 flight today but it was cancelled.
Well sir all I can say is if the F-16 pilots tell you the flight is cancelled, you’ll be real glad you didn’t go! :)
Trust the instruments
That was scary and cool. Imagine making that approach pre gps, radar, etc.
I was A PILOT and the fog was so fogy so i emergency laned in the ocen im retired but good job🎉🎉
Nice! Looks like a blast!
It's a gorgeous place to fly out here. I'm a lucky guy!
I got a working HGU-55 with a mbu-12 oxy mask. It’s a ton of fun playing dcs with it! I eventually want to add my vr to it.
Nice exercise. Great flight !!
Location?
I've got to go there this summer. Seems like there's always a strong crosswind to deal with there.
Yep, there is. Why you build north-south when the wind's always from the west ...
...i'll never figure out.
that is the worst gpws voice i've ever heard
Nice sim setup
Good stuff!
Hi dear nephew! I've spent extensive time on the peninsula, but never from this vantage point, Thanks for that experience.
Definitely adding this to my list of airports to visit this year.
Hey Charles, this is Felix from Octavi. Excellent video, great flying! This is exactly the type of application we designed the IFR-1 for. About the HDG bug: you should be able to increment in 1° and 10° steps, using the inner and outer knob, respectively. Maybe check if you have the latest MobiFlight profile? If the problem persists, drop us a note. Congrats on the passed checkride! Felix
Felix thanks so much - I'm very happy with the IFR-1. I will refresh the profile and check the HDG bug functionality again, thanks!
How to coding?
Congrats :)
Congrats IFR Capt.!!
Are your glasses fogged? How can you see?
It’s intentional: they are view-limiting glasses that only let me look down to see the instruments. Used for instrument flying training!
Congrats! The instrument rating definitely makes you a much safer pilot!
🎉
Congrats
Good luck, dear nephew! You got this...
It's been a great honor working with you towards your instrument rating. You're an excellent IFR pilot, and I've got full confidence in you. See you bright and early tomorrow!
