It was an awesome day for a gravel race! My first time racing the Long Haul. It was blistering at the beginning with surges that left me alone until I was able to catch on to another strong group and catch many riders! This course is awesome because of the variation of surfaces. There was plenty of amazing gravel, some washboard gravel, loose sandy gravel, two track, farm sections, single track...
Barry Roubaix 62 Mile Gravel Race

This was my first time racing the 64 mile race! My legs began to cramp between mile 42 & 47. I did all I could to keep on people's wheels and get to the finish. Snapped my shifting cable on my rear derailleur so I only had 2 gears the last 4 miles or so. Only had to walk one hill. I sped things up a bit on the video when I get dropped :) It was the hardest race I have ever done. Thanks for watc...

Beautiful day for a gravel race! First one of the season for me. Rolled with the 2nd group most the race! This marks the first gravel race that I have completed on my own gravel bike :)
Iceman 2022 Pre-Ride

Come check out this years course with me! This was the day after Peak 2 Peak so the legs didn’t allow me to finish as strong as I would have liked. Still was faster than last years Iceman race :) Felt great most the day and had an amazing time riding with a great group!!

Lord of the Springs 2022 (Wave 1)

My favorite race of the year! It will push your limits as it has a few tough sandy two track climbs with single track through Yankee and some beautiful hilly gravel roads through Barry County. This was by far my best result and I was super proud to finish in the top 10! Come check out the race with me.

Pretty fun Route. We did miss a turn which was unfortunate. Farm sections where a little brutal even on the mtb One guy thought I was a danger to riders. I guess you be the judge. I caused no one to fall and two people clipped me 🤔. Enjoy!

Raced hard and had fun. My first time racing Elite. Definitely a lot of competition around Michigan!

Super fun race! Finished 9th overall on my mtb and 2nd in my age group. Sprinted early at the end but no one else wanted to so what the heck. I messed up the title on the video. There are more than one Hart Hills 😆.

Raced hard and had fun on the mtb with lots of good riders! It was a beautiful day for a gravel road race. Tried to rally the troops to work together a bit. Let's just say it was rather unsuccessful :). I myself didn't have the legs to help much.
50:35 was a close one! 😮
Too close
What's this fun ride 😁✌️
i'm going to be doing this for the first time in two weeks going to be exciting! nice job on this race!
😂you guys all struggling in the light sand on 3% grade is too funny . I cant wait to feel the burn this year. Cheers.
Nice job on the race and the recap. Good video quality and good commentary. I did LOTS in 2022 on my fat bike and found it to be the most challenging race I’ve done - legs cramped up real good after the 2nd single track section and I limped into the finish. 😅
Marshal in the middle of the road… seriously? That’s madness, pity you don’t have any telemetry on screen to see how your cadence is and HR… super fast pace.
What a fast start. Amazing footage. Excellent job both racing and editing the video. How do you choose which portions of the race to use?
Thanks!! These long videos I use basically all the footage. Pretty thankful the camera does the bulk of the work 😁.
I live in Hastings and my grandson and his dad did the 36-mile this year. It was my grandson's 3rd time, he had previously done the 18-mile twice. I drove part of the route with my grandson the day before the race but this gave me an idea of what the race was really like. Thanks so much for sharing this. 😀👍AND congratulations on finishing the race with all the difficulties. 👏
Full gas from the start! 😅 great work Barry!
Thanks! 😁
Nice video and skillful + fast riding! Funny everybody seems to have trouble with that turn 9:35. I race both last year and this year and same thing happen hahahaha.
Haha always! Definitely not easy!
About 10 seconds in....I am off the back. lol. Not a fast guy but you dudes are impressive. Well done!
That’s okay! Great work getting out there!
Kinda sucks that there are cars pulling into the road during the final sprint
Yes that was not ideal. Happens...
At 2:44:17, they're hauling out a short hauler that kissed a tree on the downhill while trying to ride with broken handlebars. Must've been something to see as you're riding through.
Yah it was quite something. Glad people were present helping though!
Any way to ride this course and bypass the farms? I'm pretty sure they won't let a couple randos ride through their property.
Yah I don’t think they allow it except on race day. I believe some have created re-routes for pre-rides tho.
"Hooooly shit" from the cop standing in the middle of the peloton was hilarious lol. Great video, that sand was crazy. You guys were flying early on.
Yeah, I think he saw his life flash before his eyes!
Awesome racing, for a spin bike alternative, this brings it!!
Thanks! Yah lots of action!
I thought this race was held in October, is this from 2022?
No this is 2023. It is almost always in the Spring! Usually first weekend in April.
@@bdykstra02 OK, you must be in Michigan. Here in Minnesota, there is a race by the same name out of Lanesboro MN in October. I thought your course looked flatter than southern MN. Well done ride, you guys were cruising!
I was there in the beginning....right up until they said "GO". lol. Nice work!
Wow hitting 40+ mph downhill. is it aero bike with carbon wheels? Nice and fast time (nice weather helps a lot too )
Just a normal gravel bike. Carbon frame & fork. Alloy wheels. It was fast!!
Haha I couldn’t believe my eyes! 😅
Nice one. Does it took long to get use to the drop bar ? I thought tandem bike on gravel track was weird, but unicycle takes cake for sure.
You are a beast my friend!!
Parabéns linda corrida as imagens perfeitas. Parabéns a os participantes e tbm a os organizadores.
Well done! The last part you should've been drafting behind the others for a minute before the sprint. You were already exposed to the headwind for some time before you started sprinting so no wonder you ran out of gas after a few seconds, and yes you sprinted too early 😌 big well done just the same ..... on a mountain bike !! 🤩
Haha yep. Live and learn. I just got impatient 😆
Nice footage indeed! What bike were you riding? I understand it was a mountain bike. A hardtail? What model may I ask? Tire width?
Niner hardtail. I can’t remember which version or star it is. Carbon frame and what not. It’s either 2.35 or 2.25 width. Maxxis Aspens I believe I had for this race.
@@bdykstra02 Nice. 2.25 or 2.35 is wide! You are very strong to keep up like that with those good riders on a hardtail. Well done 👍 and keep it up man ☮️🥇🚲
Well done. You are strong AF. IMO, if you were on a drop bar gravel bike you could have probably won this race. The watt savings and aero benefits alone would've put you on the overall podium.
Will be on drop bars this year! I will be doing the 50 tho.
on my trek fuel 6000 rockshock duke gonna have a new one in 2023
well done
No idea why this got suggested to me but hey, the algorithms! Great format for MTB racing, never seen this before - Individual TT MTB style. Nice work!
Awesome, thank you!
Говорят в России плохие дороги ))) смотрю у вас тоже не айс
Very nice run. The level of fitness needed for such a long race is incredible. you`ve done very well, chapeau.
gran vídeo saludos desde Chile me encanto tu carrera y ese grupo se nota que son los mejores buena...todos campeones
Hart Hill Michigan Estados Unidos ???
Yes. Hart Michigan!
@@bdykstra02 👍☺😀
did you find out who the cavalry was?
Haha yep! We chatted after the race!
Great video. Well done
Thank you!
Very interesting so far
Nice recap! Fun to see how it played out!
Awesome video dude.. how do setup your camera to record long time period? Are you using external pwoer bank? GoPro?
I bought a different side door for my GoPro 8 which allows it to be plugged in while recording. I then keep it connected to an external power source!
You guys passed me and a buddy at 01:11:15. I jumped on one of your wheels right when you guys passed but dropped off shortly into the 25k once I looked back and realized my buddy in the yellow shirt didn't jump on my wheel. You guys were at a quick clip! Good luck this year!
Thank you! It was a perfect day. Hope you do well also Saturday!!
Is there a gpx file available for the 2022 course
ridewithgps.com/routes/41204130
Awesome, thanks! Going to ride it right now!
Nice recap. You riding style is very similar to me, just more fitness haha. Definitely frustrating having to run chunks of that final climb. That last little step up root usually claims a rider or two even when there isn't back markers from the short race. I try sit back a little farther so I can get a clean run at that and continue to ride.
Great video and great finish! Got me in there a bunch! Are you running an extended battery for this?
Thanks!! For longer rides like this I connect an external battery to it.
Well done! Riding it for the first time in 2022. Any suggestions for navigating through slower riders due to a poor wave placement?
Maybe get a bell on your bike? Just communicate well and be aggressive! Take your pass when you can get it but sometimes just be patient like in the single track stuff.
Glad i found your channel and I sub'd. Now I know how fast/flow I need to aim for. Feel the "oops' moment too :) Edit: Aspen for yankee with that crazy fast lap time OMG!
Whoa yeah!! So now I know how fast and flow the real racer could ride (my time was 2:42 - with a mini-crash and traffic jam in the single track)
Nice work!! Love this race.
Great recap- Barry- is that what it looks like in the front? LOL Keeping on the gas requires a level of physical fitness, but holding back and knowing your limitations takes a lot of internal discipline as well. I think that your perspective on having a good time and enjoying the race is interesting and insightful. Keep up the good work.
Always interesting to see how the race plays out at the front. You've really leveled up (again) to be able to ride with those guys!
Great recap. Sorry to “hold you up” hard to tell from the video because I’m so far ahead but didn’t appear that I held anyone up going up Bassett Lake climb ;) Great job again, you crushed it!
No worries! As I said you honestly did a great job! There were no hard feelings 😁.
You made riding up the hike-a-bike section look easy! 💪
I think I just have the feel for it at this point. Haha
Wow whole trail in less than 1 hour. Flying. Plan to be there soon!
