    I go to liberal churches but the reverends/ vicars still dive deep into the "weirdness" of Christianity. The meaning of Jesus's life and death on the cross etc... In the past people went to church more but they still practiced unChristian traits all the time. The way Kings would fight wars for essentially personal/ family gains. The way some industrialists treated their workers. It's easy for modern day Christians to think we live in a "Godless" age but actually maybe we're just not as hypocritical? Victorians could sit in the pews and then send the poor to workhouses.

    I love Tim Holland, but he needs some of the info James Lindsay has put in his podcast. Communism and National Socialism (Nazism) are more alike than Christianity and Communism are. What Tom is missing, is that the gnostic cult religion that underpins Hegel and Marx, and all their spinoffs (that include Nazism and the Woke) are parasitic, syncretic religions. So when Marxism/Communism borrows ... steals ... from Christianity, the end result becomes a distorted, twisted version of Christianity, a very heretical and evil one. If you know the tree from its fruit, and ignore the propaganda and sweet promises of Communism, isn't it obvious that Nazism and Communism are more alike than Christianity and Communism? Christianity makes such different fruits than does Nazism and Communism. Tom is new to this, and he hasn't got the high resolution view of the gnostic cults yet (the one with the Demiurge). So when they steal from Christianity, as did Hegel, he only sees the surface similarities, and thus discernment suffers. So Tom is both right and wrong on this issue, but the full image appears when you realize the parasitic nature of the gnostic/hermetic/theosophical/alchemical cults. Those cult religions pick *convenient shit* from their surroundings, but as any parasite they turn the bits stolen from Christianity *into the service* of the gnosticism. I'm not even a good theologian, but I know the gnostic/Hegelian/Marxist/post modernist/Woke garbage like the back of my hand. And least but not last: back in the mid 1990s I was groomed into the gnostic cult. I was taught so much about all of it, even wanted to start a book store called The Alchemist. When my transformation was done I called myself a Socialist and couldn't get enough of Marx. Yes, you heard right. I was groomed into Socialism via the gnostic/Hermeticism route! Unusual perhaps, but I was dabbling in the occult, so the agent that groomed me could simply take the *direct* route. Because Marx was a gnostic, and not an economist. The economy, the material world really, was the substance that he would use to transform men into Socialist Men. Make Tom's stuff connect with the gnostic stuff that James Lindsay has described so well, and now you get it.

    So many brilliant soundbites and quotes that I've never heard any other Christian thinker say. E.g. ‘I think Constantine is genuine, that he had a vision, and spends the rest of his life trying to figure out what it is that he signed up to.’ (16:10 mins) ‘What makes the churches distinctive is that they believe all kinds of completely mad stuff.’ (31.30) ...AND 'There’s an appeal and a glamour and a swagger to Roman power that you don’t get in the figure of some broken scruff nailed to a plank of wood.' (35.30) Also Tom shares the amazing experience he had in a desecrated Armenian church in Iraq... (39 mins in) Thanks so much for sharing this, Tom and Andy.

    I’d be interested to know how Tom sees Avicenna (Ibn Sina) fitting into the scheme of things. He wasn’t from the Christian West but was nonetheless so brilliant … Christendom benefitted from his knowledge. Also the mathematics and geometry which arose in Greece and Egypt make me think Christianity’s claim to some kind of superiority are debatable…

    • @nickcorne6407
      @nickcorne6407 2 місяці тому

      I'd argue that andreas vesalius was way more influential in medicine than avicenna. Christianity's more revolutionary claims are those of morals and the understanding of the world, the reason why they did maths and geometry, often mentioned by holland are different and wouldn't uphold here in the modern world.

      You know that Tom Holland is a leading expert on various ancient civilisations. Are you?

  • @Thomasw540
    @Thomasw540 6 місяців тому

    The cultural shift Tom Holland has rightly identified is a direct result of the success of the Students for a Democratic Society to impose the cognitive structures of the Post Modern Historic Deconstruction on the global academe, there by ensuring the constant Marxist/Fascist metrics as the moral anchor of civilization, The premise behind Post Modern analysis is the desire of the American draft dodgers from the 60s to deny any over-arching Truth to the battle in Vietnam, such as Clausewitz, in order for them to elevate their collective condition of being scared shitless of going to Vietnam into the apogee of civic virtue. Eliminating Hegel, the libertarian logic of Ayn Rand's Virute of Selfishness provides the perfect shifting tableau of advancing any convenient ethical construct as revealed wisdom. The classic case study of this effect is William F. Buckley's rebuttal to James Baldwin at the Cambridge Union in 1965, which, in the final analysis, is a full throated vindication and endorsement of "Bull' Conner's claim to preserving social order in Birmingham, Alabama with attack dogs and fires hoses against the Childrens March in 1963, The imposition of the Post Modern analysis after the SDS takeover of Columbia in 1968 played directly to the advantage of Buckley's rebuttal, which remains the pillar of the MAGA Conservatives and Christian Nationalist behind Trump. N.T. Wright is a chiild of the 60s cultural wars, he is absolutely correct regarding Pauline Theology, but it would serve him and the Anglican Church for him to abandon his aversion to Hegel as an artifact of the distortions originating with Post Modern Historic Deconstruction, which includes the abandonment of all things Calvin, The diffidence of his position resulting from Post Modern analysis is a force multiplier for the Pro-Life Calvinism of the Total Depravity Gospel of radical Evangelicals and the white supremacist Christian Nationalism, Hegel rejected Calvin because Luther wasn't a Calvinist and the TULIP doctrine violates Free Will and the "love your neighbor" clause of Jesus's perfection of the Shema in Mark 13:29 - 31, In addition, Hegel gave up the Total Depravity Gospel of the Vatican and Inquistion when he nailed in 95 Thesis to the church door. N.T. Wright needs to understand that, when he refers to Christian liberals, he is refering to the Jesus Seminar, When American Evangelicals refer to liberals, they mean "nigger lovers". The original sin of the Presbyterian Church, USA, is the Jim Crow bigotry of Woodrow Wilson and Buckley's rebuttal is a pillar of that moral rot. And Post Modern Historic Deconstruction is the sustaining ideological conceit of that social disorder, That fact is that James Baldwin's proposition at the Cambridge Union is exactly why MAGA Conservatives and other white supremacists behind Trump hate Critical Race Theory, In the 59 years since Buckley v Baldwin, social research has established that Baldwin was exactly correct. ' ' Which is why Hegel would come in handy to N.T. Wright's pastoral ambitions.

    It would be good for the church if vulnerable people were welcome in the church so the church could meet them in a church environment, these people should be welcomed not not excluded if church people knew them better they might be inclined to help more. Whe can't carry o down the road of an eletist sophisticated and cultural social club church is for everyone. Especially the weak and vulnerable.

    Holy spirit, common sense, shatters the fetters of the dead letters, the Holy Books. JESUS HAD NO ONCE-BORN DISCIPLES BUT THE TWICE-BORN LABOURERS. His twice-born Labouring Solitary Brethren/Friends called “Talmidim or Sikhs” and not the once-born natural disciples of the crook Rabbis who disciplined them through the moral laws of Moses. These Rabbinic Disciples did what their Rabbis told them to do - Once-born Hindu/Jew being the Disciples of their Brahmin/Rabbi, they are spiritually blind - HINDU ANAH. Thus, Saul being the Disciple of Rabbi Gamaliel did obey him obediently as required of him and persecuted the Labourers of Jesus but in his own heart or sub-conscience, he was not happy. For the Disciples doing what their Rabbis tell them to do, they are called spiritually blind with no Freedom or Freewill. Thus, the substitutes “Disciple and Lord” are the corruptions by the Messianic Jews to set up the same Temple system from the yoke of which Jesus set us FREE by giving his own life as the Lamb of God. Or these robed hireling Dog-Collared Priests in the Churches of Mammon have fulfilled Matt. 12v43-45 making the situation worse than before the arrival of Jesus, the First anointed Christ of our Supernatural Father Elohim, Allah, Parbrahm, etc.: BIRTH OF JOHN, THE BAPTIST, AN IDEAL RABBI MATT 13, V52:- ua-cam.com/video/RNXvv-WwdI4/v-deo.html and the Proofs of the Virgin Birth of Jesus: - www.gnosticgospel.co.uk/bojes.htm The Second coming of Jesus:- Satguru =Christ Nanak:- www.gnosticgospel.co.uk/550Nanak.htm FAMILY OF OUR SUPERNATURAL FATHER ELOHIM, ALLAH, PARBRAHM, ETC.:- www.gnosticgospel.co.uk/famofgod.htm Royal Vineyard of our Royal Supernatural Father Elohim, Allah, Parbrahm, etc.:- www.gnosticgospel.co.uk/vineyard.pdf St. Photina, the Samaritan Woman at well John. I’m sorry but every person is just a shade of brown from the darkest skin to the lightest skin ( look at women’s skin foundation creams As practical illustration of this ) we are all children of Adam and Eve And this fact is always overlooked when the word racism come up in the church Adan and Eve certainly would not been white but different shades of brown to give the Diversity of shades we see today As Christians we should stop using the word colour and start using shade instead Because if you see yourself as a colour you.
