Xenonauts is way better than the new Xcom.
I was certainly not a fan of X-Com 2 I did enjoy a good deal the first one though. I felt that 2 was lacking a good deal of something it just did not feel right, plus I HATE timed missions in a turn based game. I play turn based to relax and take my time if I wanted something more active or frantic I would load up an RTS. It just was not good. The Warhammer Chaos Gate game was closer to what I wanted in x-com.
Me making videos never ends well.
We are going eco friendly now in here, huh?
Yeah, we totally do now.
I really enjoyed these games lot. Fate of the World though is a real hidden gem. While a bit unpolished so to speak, its excellent both in how it presents itself but the game itself is very unique. Its also pretty darn hard which is great if your up for the challange
The stupid video maker should have added it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love the energy Richard, you can tell you really enjoy talisman. I think nomad games giving the DLC for free to previous owners as they come out is such a great show of Nomad Games love for the community. Now if only someone did a good Space Hulk, I could die happy! Ohh or Judge Dread... Yea I was a games workshop fan too!
Now KISS !!!
We usually do that off camera.
Really dug the business breakdown at the beginning, very interesting!
We are breaking business down like a wrecking ball.
Just finished at 99 hours . explored every inch did every quest . It’s one of the greatest games I ever played . The ending left me completely stunned , it’s unforgettable . Masterpiece level CRPG.
Thats awesome, I got a chance to talk to the dev and he was super passionate about it, so I am so glad it came across.. We need more Materpiece RPGS
You get it. Brilliant game.
Before you buy. ITS EA, dont think it will ever be like XCOM2. The most helpful steam reviews are mostly negative. The devs dont know how to do math. Its very much EA. The game is a bit similar to xcom2, just with less mechanics. one of them is customize/character creation!!!, no skill tree, no weapon attachments, and more. It seems like its just a new game thats a downgrade of XCOM 2 that was released 2016. Armors: they arent very well thought out for end game, nor early game. "Gameplay & Weapons": they bad and useless most of them. have to play easy mode to if you want to play a balance game mode. at commander settings. only thing that works is shield and machine gun combo, why? First the cover doesnt work as they intended to. half cover, no cover. they dont matter much to the AI aliens. since they shoot through cellings, floors, walls, covers most of the times. when they intend to miss. they hits the cover and remove them. So its better use the UT shoot and run behind a wall. or sit behind a shield soldier, instead taking cover. movement, facing, shooting all cost a decent amount of UT, and the soldier doesnt have much of it. so mostly they spent 1 turn move, and next turn shoot and move. which make the gameplay slow, thats if you dont want to lose most of the soldiers. when it comes to weapons. Sniper, high cost of UT, cant never shoot more than once. mid dmg, cant never kill any armor target first shot, no armor targets 50/50.. its a sniper..and 1shot per turn. if you move you dont have enough ut to shoot. soo useless.I played on commander mode. took me 2x laser sniper shots and 5xlaser pistol to kill a armor alien. rifles are decent, they have decent range, and mid dmg, few fire modes. BUT playing at commander mode. useless. shotgun, high dmg close range. but high risk. mostly you facing more than 5 aliens(depends on difficulty) at the times, some of them get the chance to overwatch fire at your soldier before they get close. useless. explosive? only good to remove covers. like this game.. the soldiers will have 30%-50% hitting enemy behind cover. even tho the soldiers are Maxed out on +100 accuracy. and your weapons are likely ♥♥♥♥ not dealing enough dmg, unless you spray and pray with machine gun. The enemies on the have +80% hitting you no matter if you behind cover. if they are further away, no worries they take shots like sniper. just with a little less hitting chance. and they mostly 1-2shots. even you updated with the best armor at the times. I dont know what the devs are going with all this.... and wtf with no stealth mode or anything? we fighting with fog of war. but the AI, just sees everything.
nice review , when do they plan the release ?
My friend recently reccomended this game. It's on sale on steam right now, might pick it up.
Thanks for this review, I searched some other ones and this as I think is short and full, as player of all UFO-s (starting on Amiga back then) and then X-COMs I'm definitely giving a shot, especially as now is a sale on Steam - and the video is almost 10 months old, so maybe there are little improvements since then ;)
Game footage starts at: 18:40 and actual gameplay at about 34:07 holy moly that's a lot of skippable bla bla..
We do this as a "show" format, so yea... about a half hour to dive into it sounds about right... ;)
Yeah, thank you for the nice comments about this really fun game :-)
Hey thanks for trying out our game ! We really appreciate the nice comments and description :)
You are so very much welcome!
this review told me zero I didnt know already as a player of Xeno1
This looks nice and chill!
I can attest to it that it is.
Time to place those hexagonal tiles and make the best city possible!
You go ahead sir!
Fun game, comes highly recommended.
Great interview Drew! So proud of you!!
Love the addition of the background image~
Thank you for the interview, gonna check the game out very soon!
Was good talk, thank you Drew for coming on!
Had a blast talking with you, looking forward to next time!!
I can see you getting better and better with each interview!
@@drewstillwell Thanks for doing this with US Drew! Excellent chat!
Thank you for the review.
What is with the background noise? That makes this too hard to listen too.
There is some music in the background, some ambient stuff... Is that what you are talking about?
@@StrategyInformer-sjgold yeah, ambient music is not helpful when trying to get a vocal interview.
@@LindsayMarkus Thanks for the feedback I do not think it is in the later interviews but @theorcosaurus would know for sure as he edits them down.
I highly recommend everyone to play it with CRT mode.
This looks like they made it easier than the original XCOM UFO defense from the 90s...
Been really looking forward to this after playing the demo a year or so ago. Glad to see it's improved quite a bit in that time! Going to have to pick it up and play it this weekend -- hopefully we get more thunderstorms here for extra ambiance (and a good extra reason to stay in and nerd out!)
I agree, 30 hours in and it is a top RPG at a very, very low price too.
I'm having a blast playing this one. Really good game.
Like you got heavy C64 vibes from that colour pallet. Only way this could be more perfect is if there was a physical release that came in a little cardboard box on a tape shaped USB (and I didn't realise how much I want that till I said it aloud)
When did Werner Herzog start doing PC game reviews?
He gotta make money somehow.
I have severe ADHD and usually I struggle to push through RPGs at a consistent pace, which I mention because it's important context for what I'm gonna say about this game: I bought and downloaded it yesterday afternoon and proceeded to play it non-stop for literally twelve consecutive hours. I know that's probably not the most healthy thing to do but I just couldn't put it down, I just wanted to see more and more of the beautiful art and the hauntingly beautiful, deeply unsettling writing. I know opinions on what makes a great RPG vary quite a lot and that this is subjective, but this is the best new RPG I've played in years, and in spite of the fact that my favorite games tend to be action games this game immediately jumped to the top of my list and is in competition with Mech Engineer for my favorite of the year so far and most likely my pick for my personal game of the year, though obviously we'll have to see how the rest of the year's releases play out. This will be a difficult one to top, though, and I'm really hoping we can get some expansions or something from the developer because even though I'm not even close to finishing the game I already know I want more.
Please turn up the music.
We will. Next review will only consist of game footage and loud as fuck Appalachian Anarchy music.
@@thestrategyinformer AS IT SHOULD!
@@thestrategyinformer There goes the family raiting...
well i am waiting for the game to come out !!!
Shouldn’t be too long anymore. Or it might be even out already.
I really, really, really enjoyed playing this one. A lot.
Of course you did!
Alright, time to pick this one up at some point. Looks like a really strong contender this year to me.
You better.
Orco feeding other's people podcasts and not his own, smh...
Alain is such cool guest. Glad I had him on again.
The X-Division mod for Xenonauts 1 was the most tactical fun I've had since the original X-COM of the 90's. If this one gets mods of that caliber, its gonna be the GOAT.
A sequel to one of my favorite PC games. Steroid is one of the classic characters. I like the game a lot but IMO its not nearly as good as Jagged Alliance 2. The number of available mercs is absurdly low, the lowest in the series outside the abomination known as Rage I think. Also the weapon selection is horrible better then the first games but worse then the others. I also find the over reliance of World War I and II era weapons in the early phases annoying especially for characters who had more modern weapons in earlier games annoying. And I hate Doublebarrel Break Action Shotguns in turn based games like this. I don't like them in shooters but they are far worse here. Made worse by the fact they are the only Shotguns I could find early in the game. The reason I experimented with one was really wanting my custom merc to have a Shotgun but having to reload after ever other shot until I found an Auto-5 was awful. I also find it very odd there are no Pump Action Shotguns in the base game just Break Actions, Semiautos, and Fullautos. What I would love if they make more Jagged Alliance games is them to give the player some money at the beginning to buy weapons and gear for their custom merc instead of having the custom merc's gear selected by the game.
IMHO: It is never going to be as good as Jagged Alliance 2... Even if it *was* as good, you can never go back home, nostalgia is a hell of a drug. The best we could have hoped for was a solid game in the series and I think in some ways they delivered here. The one big thing is the mission editor. I think that alone makes this worth a second look. The question is will the community take to it? Thats always the question right? But if the tools are solid there will be some cool missions available. I do however agree with the points you made and the WW1 era weapons seemed odd. But again at least its more content that could be used in custom stuff that would make more sense?? I don't know.. Its a thumbs up from me, with a get it on sale for best value note! ;) I did though ask my contact over at THQ and unfortunately there is no DLC planned at this stage of things. The modding tools was the plan currently for the long tail sales of the game so to speak. It made somewhere between 9-13m on steam so... maybe there is hope?
this looks really cool 👍
Its not horrible, its just not the best single player experience. If you can get a group of folks to play online its great. But I can't get 4 people to line up a schedule these days...
looks awesome i just dont want to spend 40 bucks on it
I have seen some decent sales on it... In both Feb and March it was 30% off 28$ which is a good discount. I really don't consider it a sale unless its 30%... Get that 10% BS out of my face ;)
yeah i was eye balling it last week but the sale wasnt good enough, grabbed divinity and xcom @@StrategyInformer-sjgold
Ah yes, me, the tactical genius. Good game though. It demands your undivided attention and that you react fast.
Looks good but its hard to justify buying it instead of playing Xcom 2 once again, especially with all the DLCs, MODS etc.
The view cant be zoomed in in this game, and the text is too small.
Are you running in 1080p or something else?
@@StrategyInformer-sjgold I tried 720p but still too small for my enjoyment I think
Im ok with it myself but I know how that is, there should be text accessablity settings on everything!@@RedFoxRoaming
Hey folks, I had mentioned some podcasts on AI that I am super proud of: The first is where we discuss more of a technical side of AI and where the failings of the current strategy genre AI: ua-cam.com/video/np7jbbM2CWM/v-deo.htmlsi=n8KV72yeskAz1XzC The second is where we discuss the factors of Humanizing the AI not to kick the players ass all the time but to delight the player by giving them a challenge and not a power fantasy ua-cam.com/video/spZx0q69zto/v-deo.htmlsi=SwtnuUqkxR2OEFFr Thanks to those that were in the channel, looking forward to next week!
I'm actually really enjoying it, alot of subtle politics
There are some very interesting mechanics that I would like to see worked on. I think there is an absolutely different review if you isolate the game on its own, but how can you isolate the game from the studio/publisher when the publisher did a rug pull on an early access game right before this. So I get it that there is a huge disconnect with orco's position and such. That being said I hope that it generates enough cash that the studio continues to work/update it as its solid. I have A LOT to say about the game, we have an interview with the studio head of League of Geeks coming. Me and Orco will be asking the tough questions. ;)
For those seeking a timestamp, stream starts at 2:26!
Thank you sir!
