enjoyed this - thanks for showing your explorations. Kanta Harusaki might interest you with his (non-scraping, seemingly effortless) tree technique? ua-cam.com/video/9bOxRulQyw8/v-deo.html
Loved the light added to give the impression of sun coming thru! Beautiful
I wonder if....the gamboge highlight on the first tree would be more successful if there were an orange light source from the lowering sun? I've seen paintings using Naples Yellow that created amazing "light from within" on clouds. A few paintings before this one, you managed to create the glowing effect using the Naples yellow. Naples yellow is more opaque and lends itself to the first layer, but not great on glazing over.
ultramarine blue is a red blue, not a green blue,,but it will work as an accentual
Green isn't a great color for a sky. I've seen green sky, but that usually meant we needed to start heading for the storm cellar. heh I like what you did here making the green sky into leaves that gives the over all effect as lush green of summer after a rain shower...a green you can smell. Here on Thanksgiving day, I miss that smell. I miss the sound of night sounds of crickets, even peepers go silent.
❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you for the tutorial! There really is no substitute for seeing it actually done.
I'm. STILL trying to more fully grasp the concept of water control. I have a hake brush and a small tube of Sodalite Genuine and I think I'm going to give this a shot. Thanks for the great idea. I'm thinking you painted this flat. It's great to be working monotone and all I have to worry about the degree of wet and dry on my paper and the consistency of paint. Thank you so much for the gift.
@meadowmorph3291 your welcome! I really hope it helps. I have tons of the monochromatic watercolor studies to watch and practice from! If you haven't had a chance to check out my Patreon, please consider doing so. I use that support to continue providing free tutorials!
trying to remember where I have seen this color. It was on vintage cloth in upholstery and even dresses. It must have been popular in my grandmother's time (great grandmother to you) and it wasn't new when I saw it. I love it
Now that you mention it, this may look like one of those toxic colors they used for wallpaper in victorian times
Wonderful Andrew Will be back to support you again on Patreon once the holidays are over Thanks for all your hard work and inspiration, Catherine, Syracuse , NY
Much appreciated! Have a safe and fun holiday season!
That is gorgeous!
thank you!
It would be helpful if you told us about the brush
The old masters used one of my triangle tools. Thank you for the demo.
no problem!!
Love the pigments and the muting of color. Very nice, Andrew!

thanks dude
Very lovely, dreamy and peaceful painting. 😍
Thank you so much 😀
Very nice!
@@engleharddinglefester4285 thank you!!
Thank you. my experience with nickelazo yellow is the color is like an invasive species. it eats every color and pushes it. Very powerful pushing other colors around. I like it but would use new gamboge more just because of its properties to smush things.
very cool! that does make sense.
Absolutely love this. And I love all the information you give along the way about other artists and different techniques that you and others use. It's all part of the education. I have to laugh (or cry) because I have about 110 different size watercolor brushes and you just used ONE and a couple liners. I have a hake but I have never used it and it seems very soft compared to your roughed up hake. Do you suggest any special hake for your style of painting? Once again thank you so much for your generosity and teachings.😍 I am a fan now. Just discovered you yesterday. Love it!
@GEF-i4m Thank you! I'm really glad to hear it's helpful. I use the Ron ranson hake brush for these. It's also just well worn heh. If you are able to, please consider checking out my Patreon. I use those donations to purchase more supplies and make more free videos!
whath kind of paper did you use for that beautiful pièce!?
Gorgeous 😊

youre welcome! Thank you for the sub! just throwing it out there, I do have the Patreon linked in the comments if you would like to/ can support this channel through there. It allows me to purchase more supplies and film more free tutorials!
This is simply stunning! Only started watercolour painting in the last week or two and I have learned so much from this video. The painting is so atmospheric and beautiful, a masterpiece! I am awestruck watching and going to try this tomorrow.... Thank you!
@@stephmmgrace :) I'm excited for you!!
I've really enjoyed this and liked and subscribed. It's very kind and generous of you to allow others to do versions of your work and sell them. Thank you very much and if I do sell any of my versions of your work, I will always credit you on the work. Take care, from a very sunny Autumnal England.
Thank you so much! I do feel like this is the best way for people to learn and gain confidence. If you ever want (and can) support this, please consider donating on Patreon. i use that to order more supplies and create more free videos!

sorry for the absolutely free demo.
This is the first time I have seen your work. I was impressed by your technique! I am going to give it a try! I didn't get all the different greens. I will have to check them out! Thank you for sharing! Will be checking out your other videos!
thank you! im still exploring exactly what greens I want to use where. its fun!
Beautiful, Andrew! How are you? Your work is exquisite as always. Thank you!
Thank you! Ive been doing great! how about you?
I really like this technique, the different layers give great depth and I find this method very enjoyable to use. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Im really really glad to hear that!
Really lovely painting Andrew. The vid was quite blurry. Or maybe my eyes?!
let me check, hopefully it wasnt refocusing on the brush or my hand
@mintyfownes8784 ok yea its the video. Sorry :(. I'll watch out for that next time!
@@AndrewBroussardWatercolors oh no problem andrew. Thank you for the videoxo
Competing horizons, opposing light sources, incoherent scaling... this is a disaster. You usually seem to take much more care. Looks as if you have started to seriously lose your way. Also hot press is NOT your friend. We all take a wrong turn sometimes though. Sometimes? Even I do... hmmm...
looks like ill be blocking you from the channel. lol
Opabinnier, you are a total schmuck and a punk.
Totally uncalled for, comments like these ruin you tube. It’s a free art video for Pete’s sake.
What a laugh!
@mintyfownes8784 :) thanks
Thank you. If you look back in that goodie box i sent you last year there is a half pan of a custom dark i mixed and shared with. Its in one of those white plastic pans.
thanks! and yea, ive been exploring alot of different black / dark combination.
I have not tried painting on Hot Press yet. When you put the first few strokes of Alizeran Crimson down, the paper looked like it was pilling. Does it pill easily? I also have a heavy hand. This turned out really nice. Thank you for sharing.
It wasnt pilled, but it did buckle some. to handle that, clipping down sheets of paper onto wood will allow you to stretch it easily when that happens :)!
Nice painting
Beautiful
@@A-O-Life thanks!

@@chrisgibbons3959 thank you!
Is this DS Moonglow?
Dang, I really dont remember :/
Nice and loose - Seago-like.
@@edwardmclaughlin7935 I really gotta do some research into Seago. I love his moodiness
Looks like a wild surface to paint on. For me, I do want at least some absorbency but I think if you really want to move paint around this could work for some people. I have a canspn XL Sketchbook that I think had a lot of sizing and the paint just sat on top, I can imagine this is what that is like x 10.
Yup! its absolutely insane. lifting only needs the mention of water and a papertowl!
Alcohol inks behave in a similar fashion on Yupo. They spread faster though and get some very interesting interactions. Alcohol inks will get dusty and rub off sometimes on Yupo. You might check to see if watercolor will do the same. Nice painting! Thank you for posting your experiment!
@@lauriebowen25 that's interesting. I havent tried alcohol inks yet, I'll see if there are any around to use!
@AndrewBroussardWatercolors they're a lot of fun! Just make sure it's not too humid in the room and you have good ventilation. You need 90% or higher alcohol to make them REALLY do their magic. Very vibrant colors.
Always amazed at how you slowly build from a faint image up, it’s like an inherent mathematical process.
Thanks! I think it winds up becoming weirdly inherent overtime! lol
Love your work . One question - why did you stop numbering your videos. It is hard for me to relocate a video. Thank you for teaching watercolour
@@Simple5Jack thanks! Honestly, I think I lost track of the numbers myself. Maybe I can try and come up with a new system :P
super❤
