Sleeping People - Live at Somewhere
Here's the story - Someone uploaded this concert to youtube as a playlist, which has since disappeared. I don't know where or when this concert took place, or why the original videos were taken down.
This performance is too beautiful to pass from this earth, so I'm putting my downloaded copy on youtube even though I spliced it together sloppily and possibly out of order.
Check out Yellow Guy/Pink Eye especially - the live performance blows the album track out of the water.

Louis CK predicts his future
Переглядів 18 тис.12 років тому
This is taken from an appearance on the Opie and Anthony show on January 5th, 2011. In March of 2012, Louis was booked to host the Congressional Correspondent's Dinner in Washington, but ended up dropping out because Greta van Sustern started making noise about the Sarah Palin tweets. Even worse, she only brought them up to complain about the media not being "fair" because Rush Limbaugh was in ...

So goddamn amazing
When you make words have more power you make them hurt even more. If you never care about the words…… they can’t hurt you.
So called left wing intellectuals betray the working class with their obfuscatory self indulgence.
This was a lot of words to day nothing. "Be clear and succinct"-- and yet what is clarified with this statement? Is anyone any wiser about anything because of it? About the content of German or French philosophy?
But it is bad to be gay. If we’re all gay humanity can’t go on.
Man strong brother weak brother isn’t on yt nor Spotify 😢
I have to listen to it on bandcamp
The fact that America treats black people like it's still slavery makes this concept null n void. We know certain things are wrong, but when it comes to black people America doesn't care? Fuck that. If somethings gay I'm calling it like Riley from the boondocks
Venue looks an awful lot like Soda Bar.
Searle makes a good point here. However, neither Foucault nor Bourdieu were philosophers.
flathead
THANK YOU, BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS CHELSEA BREAK FOR A WHILE @1:54
What a fuckin' badass performance from a badass band!!!
Does anyone have the source for this?
This is apparently taken from his Philosophy of Language lectures at Barkley. The Internet Archive has recordings of Fall 2010 {I won't link them here because UA-cam tends to punish comments with links.) It was from Lecture 21, around 40 minutes in.
I feel like it's not enough just to thank you. Your reply was so useful, so specific, that I can hardly believe I'm reading an actual UA-cam comment. My eternal thanks for the lecture number and timestamp. By the way, I have the series in question but only listened to one of the lectures. I noticed that the recording started to repeat itself after a while. Given your evident familiarly, how commonly does that happen in the other lecture recordings? @@Xob_Driesestig
@@1rcanada Your thanks should go to @benw2307 who found it and left it in a reply to a comment by @cube2fox in this comment section. I merely copied it and replied it to everyone in this comment section who was asking about the source.
On fire from the very first sentence.

Opie and Anthony are like the idiot dudes who suck at what they do but they made friends with a bunch of God’s like Louie and those gods keep them afloat.
childish.

Man started preaching jesus 😦
Hi, it looks like the timestamps in the description don't work; is it possible you can update them so that they will be detected for YT's chapters? Basically just a colon (":") instead of a period ("."). Thanks for uploading this!
thanks for posting. unforgettable tunes.
I liked Paul's joke
Yaba-daba-goo you unfunny preaching buzzkill
Wow, thanks !!😀
that's a pretty gay opinion
If you had to stop using words or joking about certain things because it offended certain people, there would be no comedy. That’s what comedy is, are you people insane? So if you’re zoning in on one word, sure you can make it seem like a small thing to just get rid of one word. What’s the big deal, right? But if you weren’t retarded, you’d see that what’s important is the logic behind the argument you’re making, and the fact that it can and then should be applied across the board. And like I said, if you do that, you destroy comedy completely. You can’t be funny because being funny means seeming like you’re goring somebody’s ox. And low and behold; look at what’s happened to comedy. Late night is less funny than my morning shit, and standup has been reduced to people chasing what has already been pioneered by the folks before them, and in the process completely betraying the principles of innovation and speaking truth to power or truth to taboo that those pioneers operated on the basis of. The reason for and purpose of comedy is to say things that everyone relates to but can’t say because of social norms. Sure there are other types of jokes and ways of telling jokes that add to that, but if you take that part away all you’re left with is a kind of sterile gratuitous tradition which is the opposite of what comedy is and should be. These guys want to separate between what they’re advocating and political correctness, but then they proceed to make no arguments to support that. We’re just supposed to take them at their word, as though their honesty would itself be enough to guarantee, that what they’re proposing has nothing to do with political correctness. What are you gonna believe, you’re lying eyes or what I tell you to believe about what I’m saying? And what is political correctness but the very thing that comedy exists - magically, only because people involuntary laugh at what they relate to and then will even try to stop themselves from laughing - to counteract; social norms as dictated by the squeakiest wheel? So instead of a court jester who can actually give the king good criticism because he can say things in such a way that makes him laugh at himself, disarming his usual inclination to destroy anyone who would criticism him and causing him to actually hear the criticisms (invaluable service), you have people insisting that they are court jesters who go around telling people what they can and can’t say because the king has told him that these things are forbidden - the exact opposite function of the former. And wouldn’t you know it, the gays do need to be exposed and made fun of. Forget if you don’t think homosexuality is wrong and unnatural, it’s irrelevant because all comedians do is make fun of people who don’t like to be made fun of. As soon as those people learn to laugh at themselves, comedy moves on to someone else easily offended. Disillusioned kids draw Swastikas on bathroom stalls because they know it’s the thing people take the most offence too, not because they wish they were in the third fucking reich. How fucking stupid can you be, seriously? The reason a comedian would refuse to stop using a word, ESPECIALLY - not “even” - when he’s been asked not to us it is because people who claim that someone else is responsible for the way they feel about a word are wrong and what comedians do to correct that error is make fun of them for it. And that’s incredibly gracious and valuable because instead of getting angry at them for being wrong, we invite them to laugh at themselves which is always embarrassing at first but then when you finally accept that you are being an asshole, it all of the sudden becomes easy and freeing to laugh at yourself. We should be thanking the comedians who continue to say gay and fag, especially the ones who do it and can’t explain why, because they are just responding the the basic human instinct that whoever would try to guilt trip or otherwise force you to not do something only because it offends someone is trying to make you a slave and thus make you a real victim as compared to the subjectively claimed victimhood of the “offended” person.
Lol you seem sensitive
I seen them in temp arizona, 2011ish maybe, and left the venue that evening an inch taller! An unforgettable band. Thanks, uploader! Undoubtedly they will be studied by future robot citizens.
There are many reasons to be grateful for John Searle, and this may be one of them. It's quite liberating. Having said that, in defence of the 10% (as little as that?) it does provoke a more creative response from the reader. If you understand too easily, there's a risk of being passive, and indeed of not even taking the trouble to understand carefully or deeply. If you look at someone like Derrida, while yes, he's maddening at times, there's a reason for the playfulness and complexity. If you say only what is sayable clearly within the saying-system, you're going to be limited in what you can say. The problem is surely more to do with charlatans like Lacan who have one good insight, overstate it, and obscure it to hide the fact.
Use short, concise, and clear words
Dunno if he’s describing the modern condition with that, otherwise it isn’t that profound of an observation?
I love how he's speaking French to supposedly prove that it happened and still doesn't realise he's being made fun of. what a tool
continental philosophy sucks, analytic philosophy rocks!
2021 I'm bringing it back. This is gay as fuck
Yep....so damn
Love this - was never able to see Sleeping People so I very much appreciate any recordings there are. The shaky camera is perfect for that off-the-charts-fast beginning to Nasty Portion. What a band.
thank you ! nice show... im trying to remember date .. but this was the Soda Bar in SD :)
I remember seeing them play live in front of Lou's Records in Encinitas circa 2003/2004
I studied philosophy in the french speaking part of Switzerland and I loved it. We read lots of texts in english. Then I spent 2 years studying in France. I discovered that philosophy can be disgusting. The way the French teach philosophy is absolutely horrendous.
Mind explicating it a bit ??
BS, Foucault wrote in a literary sense. Searle writes as a materialist.
RIP HW XXXXX
Source: This is apparently taken from his Philosophy of Language lectures at Barkley. As far as I can tell, the Internet Archive has two recordings, Fall 2010 and Fall 2011. (I won't link them here because UA-cam tends to punish comments with links.)
It was from 2010, Lecture 21, around 40 minutes in. Enjoy, I sat through 20 Lectures for that.
@@benw2307 Thank you! What's your opinion on his philosophy of language class?
@@cube2fox Seemed very practical and concise for a philosophy lecture, but honestly I mostly skimmed through topics for the quote. Wanted to reference it in a paper on obscurantism, but no one seemed to know exactly where it came from. Your comment helped immensely!
Comedian/Masturbator Yea sounds like he predicted his future
Just don't be gay then, it always worked in the past. We're also not required to like or accept them, they need to quit being so entitled their not that important
“i’m gonna continue being an asshole and not care about how my words affect others (even younger children) because i don’t have to stop” what a stupid point lmao.
If you can’t understand Foucault, well... lol
If only one could rise to meet that pinnacle now, Joan come back
My two heros
OMG hahaha, how have I never heard this one before- only Jimmy and Scott could say, 'Jizzum' and it be legit
"if I'm right, YOU have to change"....that's one to think about.
It can't be Jonathan Goldstein, he's bald.
"You know what... I'm just calling up Douglas Coupland."
This is a game like cs go and you need to kill the other team of 5 , you the attacker started in a black van and you draw on a map and plan on how to kill the other team. The graphics are vary simple with a white flat ground the show ed the lines you made on the map and after 5 or 6 games it go's to the other team so what is this game
Todd Glass is wrong. I love the man, but in this case, he is wrong.
