Hello. I grew up on a mid-west dairy farm, but spent my working career in the iron foundry industry in IT, engineering, maintenance, and quality systems. My wife started out on a farm and worked in variety of jobs as well. That experience plus our interests and hobbies taught us many valuable skills. My wife and I are now both retired and hope to share what we've learned in a way that is both entertaining and useful to a wide audience. Our goal is to provide information relevant to people across multiple life stages, retired or not. Topics will include retirement, remaining healthy at any age, and staying engaged in meaningful activities with specific tips on things like cooking, repairs, construction, and travel. Thanks for checking in. (Disclaimer: This channel is meant for entertainment and to share ideas only. House Refresh Series: Deck Stairs Part 3 - Installing the Railing
House Refresh Part 8: Deck Stairs Episode 3 - Installing the Railing
During our major house exterior refresh this year, we saw how bad the deck stairs were when removing some treads. The stringers were dried out and falling apart and the treads were loose. In this final entry of a 3-part series in part 8 of our house refresh series, I installed the new railing. While installing it, I discovered another measurement oversight that had to be corrected, but it all worked out OK.
Note that I’m not promoting any of the specific items used in the video. They are what I used at the time and other comparable things may work just as well.
Thanks for watching!

Is it a black and decker or a skill?
Good catch. It's a Black and Decker. I've always referred to a circular saw generically as a "skilSaw". I don't remember when I started doing that, but it's not uncommon. Easier to say than "circular saw". At any rate, per Wikipedia, ""Skilsaw" and "Skil saw" have become generic trademarks for conventional hand-held circular saws in the United States of America." Thanks for viewing and commenting.
Now youll have plugged gutter guards instead of plugged gutters. Success!
I have that concern, as well. Time will tell.
Two words.... Zip ties
Good idea. Thanks.
Why not chip them up and put it back into the soil?
Thanks and a good suggestion. I guess I've never given it much thought. I don't have a convenient method to chop them up. We have a pile for garden waste by the woods where the stuff we pull out either decays or gets nibbled on by the woodland creatures.
@fredbehn9287 aahh okay. Very nice! We use a wood chipper that we bought on letgo for 200bucks. Cheap and still works great. Before we chopped them with an axe, it took forever. Putting our stalks back into the ground soften our soil and gave a much healthier and bigger corn plant. Your doing a great job btw. Your stalks look good. Hope you can get the raccoon problem sorted out. Happy planting 👋🤓
Purple Cabbage Sauerkraut is the best.
Only 97 this morning, but I have errands to run later when it's 103. Deep inhale doesn't feel so good.
😂😂😂 the 2cd way.
I would love to see more on this 460!
Thanks and great to see your comment. I plan to make more videos of the 460 when I work on fixing the oil leaks, etc., after I get through with all the house refresh projects.
I thought you going to show us a better way to use it 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂I wasn't specting that 😂😂😂😂😂
I got a mouse with an empty trap. Just put it beside the hole they dug in the wall
Sounds like you have a good plan. In my case, they run all over the shed, so I place the traps in the main pathways around the perimeter.
I enjoyed your reflections.
I'm glad you enjoyed them. Thank you for the feedback.
I see you have a 2000 loader.
Yes, and it needs to be rebuilt. Bought it at a salvage yard. A winter project once I get my workshop finished.
Good video, I have a 606 with 2001 loader. little newer version of your tractor. I had to remove the front end just to remove oil pan so I could replace rod bearings for better oil pressur. My front crank shaft seal leaks a lot as does the cyl on the bucket. Thinking about tire chains, but my chains are only 23 in wide and dont fit the 16.9 28 real good. lookin forward to more videos.
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. I grew up on a farm with IH/Farmall tractors including the 1939 M my grandfather bought. The one picture is me on the Farmall B. We traded an H for a 340 in the early 60's. There aren't a lot of us farm kids left around anymore.
Informative! ☺️
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it.
Looks like a good strong starter!
Thanks. It's easy once you first get it started and stay in a feeding rhythm.
Home baked bread, yum! And you can use your prefered flours such as organic, ancient grains, whole wheat etc. You can add raisins and cinnamon or onions and herbs, or potatoes or yams, its endless! These cost a fortune to buy, IF you can find them!
Thanks for the feedback! I dabble with different flour combinations and baking times to dial in on the best results. One has to be flexible with the process depending on humidity and temperature.
just did mine. looks great.
Thanks!
Amazing bread, delicious!! Great work!
@@SansaraMilinda Thank you.
king of the hoes 🙏
Good information but I’d never use MDF in an exposed location like that.
Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion.
@@newventurenewday you may have a good reason for your choice and you do great work so I don’t want to discourage you as you seem very knowledgeable in what you do and you make nice videos!
@@greghight954 Thank you. That's encouraging to hear. There are more in the queue. It's been a busy year.
Great video production!
Thanks. I keep looking for better ways to tell the story and keep making mental notes on things I could do to improve on that.
I see he gave up on moving that rubber tree plant.
Good looking project! 🌳😊 I work as arborist and in my knowledge it is good for tree and it roots if you dont cut down grass as big circle as trees canopy.
Hello Fred & Linda!
My favorite thing and what I missed a bunch when we lived in climates that were not hospitable to it was…Rhubarb! Maybe you will appreciate this little ditty as much as I do ua-cam.com/video/SLTyoIsCTGw/v-deo.htmlsi=hW8g_yXPv9V-YNCG
Cool. A German tongue twister with Rhubarb. Thanks.
Thanks for the inspiration to try making it myself. Good luck on your channel. New subscriber from Kentucky.
