Pau Hana (“work is over”) is traditionally a time to relax, socialize with friends and enjoy the end of the day or kick off the weekend. Pau Hana Friday Series celebrates this custom by presenting live music featuring the distinctive sounds of the South Seas such as slack key, steel guitar and ukulele.

- All ages are welcome for Pau Hana Fridays, however, please note that our liquor license requires alcohol consumption to be limited to a designated area of the pavilion and no one under 21 years of age is allowed in the consumption area. Must have valid photo ID.
About Joel Katz:
Joel Katz delights listeners with his accomplished performances on Hawaiian Lap Steel. Joel is a Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner, and a finalist on all his recordings.
The unique sound of Hawaiian steel Guitar will transport listeners to the days of old Hawaii with gentle breezes and a relaxed feeling of Aloha.
Joel’s playing style and song selection captures the essence of the nostalgic sound of Hawaiian Steel Guitar music along with a selection of jazz and contemporary songs. Joel has been a featured performer at Maui’s Hawaiian steel Guitar Festival for many years. Joel is on the University of Hawaii Maui College music faculty and performs regularly for conventions, weddings, and special events.
Hawaiian Steel Guitar is the technique of playing a guitar with a metal bar. This evolved in Hawaii around 1885 and became the sound of Hawaiian music the world knows for all the decades to follow.
Both the instrument used and playing technique is different from Slack Key guitar, which is a regular guitar tuned down to an open chord and played with fingers.
