Ludwig van Beethoven - Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61
Ludwig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, was written in 1806.
The work was premiered on 23 December 1806 in the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. Beethoven wrote the concerto for his colleague Franz Clement, a leading violinist of the day, who had earlier given him helpful advice on his opera Fidelio. The occasion was a benefit concert for Clement. However, the first printed edition (1808) was dedicated to Beethoven's friend Franz Clement.
It is believed that Beethoven finished the solo part so late that Clement had to sight-read part of his performance. Perhaps to express his annoyance, or to show what he could do when he had time to prepare, Clement is said to have interrupted the concerto between the first and second movements with a solo composition of his own, played on one string of the violin held upside down; however, other sources claim that he did play such a piece but only at the end of the program.
The premiere was not a success, and the concerto was little performed in the following decades.
The work was revived in 1844, well after Beethoven's death, with performances by the then 12-year-old violinist Joseph Joachim with the orchestra conducted by Felix Mendelssohn. Ever since, it has been one of the most important works of the violin concerto repertoire, and it is frequently performed and recorded today.

Ludwig van Beethoven's Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Piano in C major, Op. 56, more commonly known as the Triple Concerto, was composed in 1803 and later published in 1804 under Breitkopf & Härtel. The choice of the three solo instruments effectively makes this a concerto for piano trio and the only concerto Beethoven ever wrote for more than one solo instrument. A typical performance takes a...

Symphony No. 9 in D minor, op. 125 represents the apotheosis of Beethoven s symphonies. The idea for this symphony tormented Beethoven for many years. Dating as far back as 1809, we find notes of musical ideas which will be later used for this symphony. The material he gathered was ultimately used between 1822-1824 when the great symphony was elaborated with chorus and soloists. Its general ton...

THIS is a completion of Beethoven's youthful work. Only half of it belongs to Beethoven's hand. In any case, I can see why he did not publish it even the fragment.

Nevertheless a very strong composition with in the traditional style of Mozart. I loved it from the start. Together with the pianoconcerto WoO4 it deserves a more regular apparance in concertprogramms.

@@Beethovens.Heritage Please allow me to correct the matter: We do have more than half of it. Infact almost all of it!!! We have Beethoven's Handwriting up to the reprise which is- as You know - a repetion of the exposition appart from the change of key for the second theme. What is added is only the very short coda. I agree: the charming work deserves more attention.

@@geigenatelierbrusch469 Thank you for this informative elaboration. I really find the work strong, especially in the way the motivic texture is build-up. It really shows Beethoven shows his skill to write a good violin-concerto, next to his first attempts to write a pianoconcerto. That the work was almost entirely finished except for the coda, as you state, only proofs my point. I think it was the cadenza-problem that might have prevented him to complete the work as such... Thanks for the info ! 😊👍😊

@@Beethovens.Heritage Dear Johan. A pleasure to correspond a little about this beautiful work. It is presumed that Beethoven did finish the movement completely. (Maybe there once existed even two other movements.) It is very likely to be true that just the last pages got lost. On the existing final page Beethoven filled all the paper right to the last space.

Don't think, it can be based on something, for it rather early work itself. Beethoven wrote it in 1786, wen he was only 15.
