Wondered if you got a rack on the back if you could use it for touring
@@korazon3spinado I’ve done some long rides on it. I go from PA to NH every year for the Laconia rally and I’ve been to VA to ride skyline drive. I don’t know that I would do it more than once a year though. I am actually looking at getting a midrange adventure bike in the spring - the Honda TransAlp 700 or the Triumph Tiger 900 so expect some First Ride videos.
Having done some camping & been semi homeless for a few years i love tips on making it less traumatic to get along with life, eating , sleeping, staying clean & of course going to the toilet! Lol

Ive got a brand new one, almost completely done with all the hop ups. Phenomenal bike and the engine drives way harder than youd think. Its got twin grunt but revs so fast all the way to the top like an inline 4. With that trellis type foundation, such a pleasure to ride hard. Ohlins next and then I'm done. I highly recommend if you have one, at the minimum get a Corbin saddle, and a full exhaist with a 2 Wheel Dynoworks tune. 10 more HP at the top.
I have a 2017 sv650 non abs model. Bought it used and so far I've only had to do general maintenance. The front suspension is a little soft. At the same time it has never let me down in the twisties. Maybe I just don't brake hard enough into the turns. I always have a couple of inches left. I'm 6"2' and 200 lbs with about 10 or 20 lbs of gear.
What do you think of the Yoshi exhaust? Besides the sound do you feel the weight savings or power gains if any? Thanks!!
@@GB-fo2ce I was really surprised by the exhaust. I bought it purely for the sound and to satisfy my need to change things constantly. It had a huge effect on performance. Initially I felt the SV was somewhat jolty/uncomfortable in 1st gear. The new exhaust makes it ride a LOT smoother. I don’t think it made a huge difference in power, a little better. The performance though is night and day.
Oh no. I’m like that too constantly wanting to fiddle with things. Now you’ve got me thinking about spending more $$ on the exhaust. Thanks for your insights though!!
@ just save all original parts for when you trade in. You get more $ for stock bikes and you can sell the upgrades
Nice video! I'll check out the bridge. In 2020 I bought a new 2019ABSfor $7400 out the door. It now has over 11K miles on it completely trouble free. I put in a better shock, a fly screen and a tail light modulator that flashes when braking. I went to a place called Hamsupholstery (a great small business about an hour from Philadelphia) and added a gel pad and foam to the seat which made it more comfortable. I am planning to keep my bike for the long term. Every time i ride something else I find that i am having the most fun on the SV650.
@@GB-fo2ce what kind of shock did you put in?
@@MyBunker I got an Öhlins shock in 2022 that I bought online. It wasn't cheap (~$560 total), and had it installed at Washington Cycleworks in New Jersey (they are great suspension experts and very reasonable in their pricing). It can be adjusted for pre-load and rebound damping. It improved ride quality over the not so great roads in the Philadelphia area and surroundings. But it is not day and night better. If i ever get a different bike, which i probably won't, it will be an ADV. I rode the new V Strom 800DE (surprisingly nimble and great motor) and the Tiger 900 (a lot more $$) and they were both impressively comfortable on bad roads.
Isn't it a small bike for a 6 footer?
@@noelteopaco1755 it is. I’m 5’11” 200lbs and I am about at the top end for size. I sit comfortably. My son rides it sometimes and he is 6’3” and much lighter- it would be better fit for a shorter rider
I'm 6'2" and no problem here. Plenty of room on the seat to move around. Very stable on the interstate. I have a 2017 non abs for reference.
I just bought the 2024 model 🎉
@@josipburic8207 that’s awesome - you’re gonna love it.
Nice, this is my Bike. :-) I also bought it new 2018. I did 35000 km on it. After about 3 years I needed a new battery. Not the slightest problem otherwise. I also have another Seat, I took the one from the SV 650 X.
@@singlucille3440 yeah these things are super well made. Makes them very hard to ever trade in for sure.

What is wrong with buying a small bike and up grade in a year or 2 ?
@@JamesSmith-vv3ys the cost. I mean I did that with my first bike, a Honda rebel 250. (Then I went and bought another one a year later bc I missed it) I’m actually making a video about that right now, upgrade or trade - it will include the cost analysis. Should be out next week.

I own a 2000 first gen SV650, I recommissioned it after it had been parked in the owners garden for three-years, ,it'll be 25 years old next year, it's still going strong 💪, they're an excellent bomb proof bike !
I have not spent any money on repairs in 10 years pretty happy about that
I believe this bike has too much HP for new riders who are young. Older and wiser, this is a good choice.
Maybe. It is pretty tame under 5k rpm. I have a rebel 250 which I learned to ride on.
Agreed my first car had less horsepower than this 650!
Great video. Recently bought my first bike and that's kind of like the check list I went through before picking one. Btw. I found Waldo at 10:47
What did you end up buying?

Wow your videos are awesome! I need to up my editing game.
I can’t find a rebel anywhere near what you bought yours for… really hoping one comes up soon, I love these bikes and it will be my first one
Yeah they really went up in price the last 2 years. Someone offered me $1800.00 for mine about a month ago and I see them on FB marketplace for like $2k. They tend to sell pretty quickly, and there is always a few for sale. I would think you could get a good one if you offered $1500-1600. You just have to be patient and keep trying. Good luck.
What front turn signals did you use? And how did you wire it?
@@StandingMemeMan I don’t remember I threw the box away. It was just some random one I picked off Amazon. The wiring was easy - just wired it to the box on the front. There is a relay you have to change under the seat also - is like $10.
What relay did you use?
