Turning Storm-Damaged Alder into Firewood #firewood #deer #chainsaw #stihl #nature
December has been unusually wet, but I finally got the chance to turn a wind-thrown alder into a stack of firewood! Watch as I tackle this storm-damaged tree with a chainsaw, transforming it into a winter-ready woodpile.
Interestingly, the local deer had already stripped most of the bark before I got to it! Deer often eat tree bark, especially in winter, as it provides a source of fiber and nutrients when other food is scarce. Watch as I tackle this bark-stripped tree, making the most of nature's leftovers.

Issue here - for anyone who cares - maybe nobody does - is water ingress to the actuator. That damages the PCB, causing the module to send a constant 2000N torque value to the ECU, regardless of what the actual handbrake torque is. The ECU is looking for 1 of 2 values - 0 N when handbrake is off, 1246 N when handbrake is on. Instead it is getting told there's 2000 N at all times, which triggers the dash error message as the ecu now thinks the handbrake is jammed on. Even when it certainly isn't.. The EPB itself will usually work perfectly fine - if not, do the "Hold button down for 5 seconds, then hold button up for 5 seconds, then 5 seconds more holding down" reset - generally, that will make it play ball again - but the dash warning will persist. There may be no DTC's set or you may have a "Handbrake actuator" error code - the dash warning can be lit with no codes/faults set - it varies. Looking at live data, you will see the actual torque value will be a constant flatline - usually around 2000 N. That's what's triggering the dash warning. Disconnecting the battery for an hour will clear the warning for about 10 seconds btw - so don't waste time on that one - before it returns. The pcb is damaged & is outputting spurious data - simple as. Removing the actuator is no picnic without dropping the rear subframe (people will tell you it is) - generally the nuts holding the module onto the frame will be rusted solid & there isn't much room to work. Close to none... The actuator is also coded to the vehicle, so chucking in another used one won't work without either recoding it (Toyota won't recode used units..) or swapping your eeprom chip into the "new" used module. Do-able but not so simple. I wouldn't be hooped to do it to a customers vehicle (effort/liability), but if it was my own, I would disconnect the module, re-wire the actuator motor itself (2 wires) up to a bog-standard electric window switch mounted on the center console & do an electric handbrake delete to the ecu software - which would give you a "manual electric handbrake" if you're following so far.. Pull window switch up, handbrake engages, press button down (reversing wire polarity) handbrake dis-engages - taking the ecu out of the equation for about 20 quid & some work.. Or, I would install a normal handbrake lever & cables from a.n.other scrap vehicle, use that, with an ECU electric handbrake delete - again, easy enough if it's what you do, not so easy if it isn't. Bye bye electric handbrake headache - however, that probably isn't/maybe is a solution for you. Just food for thought - it depends how much you like your Avensis - or just pay Toyota the 2k to fit a new module.. one of those.. The whole dopey system pulls on 2 pawls that engage the rear calipers - it's that basic when you ignore all the electronic crap.

I have this message appear as soon as the ignition is turned on.The parking brake works perfectly as tested on a rolling road brake tester. The problem is that a previous owner replaced the EPB and never kept the original EPB to clone the coding from the Eprom and transfer to the replacement EPB.Because of this there is a mismatch of information and cars ECU doesnt recognise donor EPB.I have had the car in to EPB Specialist Dave in Southport. He tried clearing the message but because EPB is a different part number from a newer Avensis there is no option in the Toyota diagnostics.A week later i went back to EPB in Southport.Dave had a used EPB with the correct part number. After fitting this EPB we ran in to the same problems.Still unable to clear message from cars dash. The only way round this is to get Toyota to fit a new EPB.I was quoted just over £1700.Another option is to clone original EPB and install on to a second hand EPB.There is a 3rd option to get a mileage correction company to stop the message screen working and remove the other 2 amber warning lights.Dave at EPB may carry out R&D in to finding a way to remove this error message whilst enabling the display to continue working.Hope this helps some one out there.Wish i had known what i know now before.

Keeping the cutting deck clean is super important for optimal cutting performance and it might even reduce petrol consumption. Make sure to put some mineral oil on the blades after cleaning to avoid corrosion.
