Dropshot Smallmouth - Keitechs and Live Crayfish
Northern Mike and I hit the Detroit River for some transitional smallmouth. We were in substantial current in about 14' of water. Sexy Shad Keitechs and live crayfish were the primary baits. Link to Northern Mikes channel right below.

Washington Island Smallmouth
Переглядів 7022 роки тому
I spent a week on Washington Island, WI with my family. I have been going there for 25 years now, every few years or so. I tried a variety of tactics in a variety of settings, but ultimately, the drop shot in 8-14 FOW was where I had the most luck.

I searched around the Metro Marsh and Basin area for panfish, and stumbled across a few perch. Tungsten with spikes and a red beaded spoon caught the fish.
Detroit River Fishing - Multispecies
Переглядів 4,9 тис.3 роки тому
In this video, Northern Mike (link to his YT Channel below) and I hit the Detroit River for a day of smallmouth, with appearances from some other species too. The primary approach was drop shotting with 1/2 oz weights paired with both live and artificial baits. The live bait was craws and the artificials included the 3" Tackle Hd Hi-Def Craw, the X-Zone Slammer, Kietech 3.8" swimbait, and the Y...

the keitchs are great, just not very durable
@@TwinkieOnDaToc Agreed. They really do fall apart, but man do they get bit
Is that Huron River in Ohio?
This was in MI.
Shoutout from lapeer County
Whatup Lapeer!
I got some knockoffs on Temu haven't tried them yet.
It’s a good bait profile. They’ll probably work
Awesome catches, that was a nice small mouth.
Thank you!
What’s your line lbs? I was fishing from ferry dock with 6lb mono and of course broke off haha . Do you prefer canoe fishing instead small aluminum boat? Going to the island next week
I use 10 lb braid with typically a 10 lb fluorocarbon leader. Truthfully, the aluminum boat is probably more comfortable. I bought the canoe cuz I was limited on space in my garage. Good luck up there!!! 😎
Purty!
Yea I feel like I always get the ones with deep emerald and bronze in the Huron.
Brandenburg!👊💥🎣
Haha I actually thought of you and that rock bass video you made a while back. That’s what enabled me to catch these guys. 😎 Actually, it’s not a bad little spot if you’re in the area. The rock bass and surprisingly…panfish…we’re poppin off. This one kid had what I am convinced was a master angler pumpkinseed in his bucket. I actually had a good time there.
@@discoverangling4892 good to hear it! It’s really an awesome location. You can catch everything from panfish to muskie there for sure!
I know you can tell from the video, but he actually swam away just fine 😊
good job you killed the fish
That’s a monster
Thanks! I was pretty pleased with it 😎
Tank! I’ve been told there’s a few smallmouth lakes around town. 🎣
Thanks Joe! You’ve been told correctly 😎. My exploring has only just begun, but they’re out there!
Exciting when they do that, especially when its a musky!
I can only imagine the commotion a jumping musky causes! 🤭
That's how it's done ✔️ 👏
Thank you!!
Man, that's a great video ‼️ it needs to be in a commercial on WFN 🎣
Great catch! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching
Awesome buddy
Thanks!
Awesome catch ! 👊
Thanks!
Nice catch! Just subbed!
Thanks for the sub! Subbing back!
Same here! Prespawn smallies are great. Nice catch !
Thanks! Yea it won’t be long!
Great video! Nice smallie! New subscriber!
Thanks a lot! Subbed back.
Awesome! I Love drop shottin!
Thanks! It really is the best
You guys were crushing 'em! All bigs! JoeTech really produced. 😂 Tons of boat traffic. I don't know that area well as I only kayak fish but very crowded. Great video.
Thanks Bryan. I tried texting Keitech and it auto corrected to Joe Tech and the name stuck 😁 Yea we went on a Saturday, pretty busy out there.
Just hammering them! Good job both of you guys. Those keitech are amazing. Loved that it turned into the "joetech" haha. I never thought of drop shoting those. What a great idea. I use the electric blue/chartreuse fat swing impact for a trailer on everything lol. That color is great. Awesome smallies 🙌
I can say they’re most effective drop shot bait by a large margin for me.
Well done boys!!!! Love to see it
Thanks Matt! Yea we had some luck that day. 😎 think you’ll make it to the tridge this fall?
@@discoverangling4892 Definitely!
@@discoverangling4892 Tons brother!
Powder house Island is a great place to get some footballs 🏈
Noted. 😎 thanks Timothy!
I have caught 4-5 pound Smallmouth right off the break wall where the river meets the lake
Been fishing up there for 20 years and the Detroit river is underrated! Caught many species and all of good size
I agree, Timothy. I think it’s known for walleye and maybe silver bass, but aside from that, people kinda don’t know about the smallies.
Are you strictly a sport fisherman? You're lettin' a lot of tasty bites go free!
I only keep a bass once every few years or so. Walleye and perch end up on the dinner plate more often, but not always.
Tried bass once- I'll never keep one again. Walleye & Yellow Perch for me.
Ope! I heard that a couple times. Definitely a decent day. I had to watch this on my phone, the TV resolution wouldn't settle in.
Yea the resolution thing is on my list of things to get better at. It seems that I am limited with the basic video editor I use.
OPE is a way of life. 😎
Awesome thumbnail!
You guys crushed it and all quality fish! Nice job out there!
Thanks Lucas. Every time I fish with Mike, it’s poppin off!
Oh yeah 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Alex. You know what the heck is goin on. 😎
BIGGIN!!
Thank you Lucas. That’s a high compliment coming from you. You’ve been a hawg magnet lately!
@@discoverangling4892 I always give credit when credit is due brother!
Now that's a biggin!
Was it above 4?
@@tigereyezsixtynyne almost. Lol 3 - 12
Great video, Pat! That 15 incher that gave you hell... seems about right. Some of those smaller Smallies fight better than the big boys. My laziest fighter of the year for Smallmouth was a 5 pounder.
Thanks Bryan! Yea every once in a while you get a 2 lber that goes berserk. They definitely contribute to the smallies reputation 😎
Good stuff Pat
Thanks Mark!!
Well done man!
Thank you sir!
Good job Pat! Great video!!
Thanks Mike!
Nice job buddy!! That last one was a cool and unique way to catch one!
Haha thanks Lucas. That’s actually happened to me a couple times. Every once in a while, I catch a lucky break on a snag 😎
For some reason I’m just seeing this! Nice work guys!
Thanks dude! We were pretty fortunate that day. Location was definitely key. But that’s usually how it goes out there
@@discoverangling4892 agreed! Location is number 1 and I always wanna be in like 290 different spots at oncd
Man...that's some THICK cover you're casting through. Looks like an awesome place to lose a lure in a tree 😂 Great video! Lots of action and that one and the one at the 4:43 mark was a tank!
Thanks Bryan. Yea I can usually count on losing at least one lol. That’s why I never throw anything expensive back there. Just Kietechs, typically. There’s some relatively decent ones in that little creek for sure.
Amazing video!! Your channel seems really cool! Just subbed too!!👍
Thank a lot! Glad you liked it. Subbed back. 😎
Thanks!!
*mantap sobatku sukses selalu dan salam silaturahmi dari Engler Bolsel dan jagan lupa jalan-jalan juga ke spot saya lihat-lihat straik di sana 🤙🤙 saalm dari pemancing Indonesia 🇮🇩*
Male Pumpkinseed's used to be a staple in my aquariums. Over the years I've had 3, each lasted 7-8 years. I'd go to certain lakes where they were more prevalent than Bluegill, catch a bunch and pick out the most colorful male. One of the most aggressive fish I've had.
Yea? I didn’t know they were particularly aggressive. I could see them making good pets lol
@@discoverangling4892 I didn't either. He owned 1/3 of the tank. Some fish, including some aggressive South American fish like Oscars etc would challenge him and he would always win back his side. So I learned that aggressiveness trickles down from the fish we target down to the micro level of panfish. Bluegill are the same way, the biggest males will usually win.
@@NorthernMike haha cool. Don’t mess with our MI panfish!! ☝🏻💪🏻🇺🇸
thats a nice looking creek, had some solid smallie action too👍👍
Thanks! It is a nice local spot .usually pretty good action. I go once or twice a year for a nice creek session.
Nice seed! Delicious table fare.
Thanks Mark! I may have to try them next time.
Thats some precision casting my friend! Nice video, looks fun and relaxing!
For sure man. As long as you go there expecting to lose some lures, then you will be able to relax haha. That’s why I keep it simple with cheap stuff there. But yea, it’s a good time for just chillin.
Awesome video brother! I've been slacking on my videos but I'm catching up now!
Haha thanks bruh! There’s so many good ones coming out lately it’s hard to keep up. Thanks for watching, we should do some fall fishing…when it’s …fall lol
@@discoverangling4892 of course brother! Hell yeah dude I would absolutely love that!
