@@mataisgood9046 had to sprinkle in a bit of clickbait 😅
Ferngrove is also known as being part of the "Dickie Bird" estate, due to most of the streets being named after birds. With it being the roughest estate in Bury, many would have argued they should have bulldozed all of it.
Ha ha 😆 yes
Eden-field definitely. Bury can vary depending on the local speaker. The problem was that the housing estate was short sightedly built either side of the reserved route. It was always going to be severed. This leads to a climbing lane that is far too late going up the hill to be of much use. The whole of the M60 route was protected way back in the 1950s and some properties were demolished in the late 1970s for it, even though the ring wasn't completed until over twenty years later.
Are there any photos of the gap left for the M60
What's with the maps and the unhelpful mirror setting? Couple of times, it's right where the bit you're talking about is too. Why did you let this pass? Over and over again? In fact every time? Who was so pushed for time in the editing that he didn't? Edit? Eh‽
I used capcut at the time I had almost no control over the extent of the transitions and at the time I was using a laptop that would struggle playing the video, so I do get where you're coming from but hey have you seen the newer ones, and if they are the same as what you're describing because if so I find this really helpful ❤️

The M66 motorway should have gone all the way to meet up with the M65 near Accrington and Burnley. But somehow it only ends after Bury which becomes the A56 and continues towards Accrington and passing through Rawtenstall that is north of Bury.
@@Anonymoususer_8823 I wish it met up with the M65 too as that would make sense but that was never really in the proposal annoyingly enough
Indeed. Plus the M67 motorway should have gone all the way to Sheffield and would have meet up with the M1 motorway to the south of Sheffield or near Chesterfield.
They've made attempts at building a bypass connecting the M67 to the M1 but I keep reading the proposal and leads to the same reason as to why the M67 was never completed, it's nearly geologically impossible to put it simply
@@UK.RoadsCyclingandTransport The only bit that was a sticking point was the cross-Pennine section. Many options were presented, including a surface road, a tunnel, reusing the Woodhead tunnels and a cutting, and all were rejected. The Woodhead tunnels I can accept, they'd never have been good enough, but the overground options were blocked because it's the Peak District and it wasn't allowed, and nobody wanted to foot the bill for a new tunnel - a fact proved by just how crap the Stocksbridge Bypass is compared to what was planned, and the fact they built it to such a low standard that even the sections that could be turned into a motorway (or at least a half decent dual carriageway) can't without completely redesigning the existing grade separated junctions. Of course, none of this excuses the utter clusterfuck of Mottram Junction or the bypass that has been lobbied for by the locals for at least as long as I've been alive (I'm 53). They've finally relented and have started to build something, but it's only going to dump the traffic in Tintwistle, which it goes through already and isn't really resolving the issue for anyone except the residents of Mottram. And they're making it worse by STILL offloading the M67 onto the roundabout instead of using the slip roads that are pretty much ready to bolt on to. I still find it odd that the only thing linking the two largest cities in the North is a piddly single carriageway
True. 👍
1:23 Interesting shot of the junction of the A40 Westway and the short lived, shortest motorway in the country, the M41. Meant to be the link between the bottom of the M1 and via the M4 right down to the A3/M3, the people of West London whose bedrooms (& homes & streets, parks and cemeteries) were at risk put a stop to it You can still see the old White City dog track/Empire Exhibition stadium top left too. Prescott sneakily downgraded it to an A road overnight with scant warning. Result: tens of thousands of Pounds in speeding fines from the new 50mph limit.
Then you might find this rather interesting ua-cam.com/video/hyylrevtthw/v-deo.htmlsi=WKPGkWfW4PxKOxgq
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Another great video 😀 (although I'm a bit biased 😂)
I may be wrong but I had always thought it was pronounced "EEdenfield" as in Garden of Eden, Can someone more local than I put me right? (I live in south Manchester btw)
@@gammock4026 I half thought it was pronounced like that and as I'm obviously not from North of England or England for that matter, I likely screwed up somewhere lol, Good to know, thanks
Yes, can confirm (lived in East Lancashire). And also Bury is pronounced "berry" (despite what some may tell you). Quite a few of the placenames round there do have some unusual pronounciation 😅
@@QuantumPulsarMany locals still pronounce it is "Burry". It's roughly a 2 to 1 split for Berry over Burry though.
Very few shits were given about sticking a motorway outside someones window back in the day... Many modern roads including I think some later parts of the M60 are in cuttings for no obvious engineering reason (presumably to placate residents) and are now very prone to flooding.
@@joinedupjon yep indeed, and luckily a lot more care goes into planning a road that's why it takes several years just to get through the planning process as you need to plan out each phase of construction and ensure noise levels are below a certain level and meet strict regulations and guidelines and of course environmental reasons
As far as ( am concerned the Motorway numbering in this area is wrong. The part of the m'way NW of Manchester is the M62 as the through route. It should at least be marked M60/M62. The section of Motorway over Barton Bridge was originally M62, then M63 and then M60.. ...
You're not wrong, but it's an issue that wouldn't have existed if the second motorway span had been built. This was going to run from just west of the Eccles interchange (J12) and follow the route of the existing motorway until just east of Simister Island (J18). It would have had three junctions in total, not counting the start and end points, which were with the M61, the (unbuilt) M601 and the M66. This would've made for a proper cross-country motorway and left the existing stretch through the Irwell Valley, with all its horrible junctions, as a provincial stretch which would've formed the M60 (or whatever they'd planned to call it then). It would also have cut out the confusing and nasty Eccles Interchange, which is only confusing and nasty because the M62 to Livepool was originally the M54 and would have taken up what is now the M602 as well - but unfortunately it was already built before someone had the brainwave of a cross country motorway. The M601, incidentally, was going to be the Prestwich Bypass and was the reason for the missing junction number for all those years. That would've headed into North Manchester and terminated at the proposed inner ring motorway, which also thankfully never got built. Apologies if you already knew all that...
Thanks another good insight to one of our Northern Motorways. Just asking where do you reference the old Maps, think they're from the 70's 80's old Road Atlases we had, one's with the map having the Motorway shown in light blue?
The map showing the M60 as the M66 is from my A to Z motorways map of England and Wales from 1992 I think and the other shows the M66 just as the Middleton link is a 1976 Bartholomew map provided by QuantumPulsar although I do have a similar map of Manchester from the late 60's which I now wish I had put in the video
Mispronunciation, not *mispronounciation.
I thought I said that
Wait, how else am I supposed to say it
It's dialect based and both are valid. The difference is in the 'unce' vs 'ounce' sound. It doesn't really matter. Same as glass vs glarse.

I was on this motorway M66 / A56 last month on my way to Accrington and on to Blackpool after calling in the Trafford Shopping centre from Wrexham. @@shaun30-3-mg9zs yes it is and I had I good week of work experience too when that was filmed
We need decent roads in this country, a North/South dual carriageway Wrexham-Cardiff + Swansea
@@shaun30-3-mg9zs I think a study was done but isn't viable due to cost and the rugged terrain of Wales, I think Scotland's A9 has similar issues
@@UK.RoadsCyclingandTransport Hi mate thanks for your reply, That sums it up Wales and Scotland loses out when it comes for decent roads. Catch you soon👍
If this dual carriage way joined the M4 at Newport in the East and then M4 at Swansea in the West it would have been worth spending the Billion pounds or more they have, but it doesn't and this is another example of Welsh government spending money wastefully.
@@leedaniels1468 I still think the relief road should be built, ain't no one going 90 miles north to bypass the M4

Looks like Plas Brymbo on what was the old Brymbo Steel works site 3-4 miles from Wrexham, between Brymbo and Tan-y-fron, and like this video a drivers nightmare to get around, once your there it's hard to get out, great video Take care
As I don't know the plans or area, i.e. no idea where the paths connect, where the shops are, etc., I would sadly have to err slightly on the latter part of the question; a car focused nightmare. A nice looking one mind, but still car dependant.
There were shops proposed but it's all housing now, it's very stupid
The speed limit is absolutely silly. The limit should be 60mph, the same limit as on any single carriageway.
@@CristiNeagu it's a road works zone it's usually for safety but I do think it should be a bit higher
@@UK.RoadsCyclingandTransport It doesn't look any more dangerous than any other single carriage way. In fact, the lanes look a bit wider than usual.
True, usually they would be narrow lanes but you are correct, the reason is probably because of the unusually wide hard shoulder? That honestly doesn't make sense to me, and again I do think at best the speed limit should be between 50 or 60mph
@@UK.RoadsCyclingandTransport The reason is that they don't care about traffic flow. They just put blanket 40mph speed limits whenever there's any type of roadworks. This works for whoever is managing that section of motorway because they don't need to think about it, and it works for the government at large who are trying to annoy us into giving up our cars. And then the roadworks are in place for several years because you never see any workers there, and we're left holding the short end of the stick.
I made the signs myself from scratch, its a new(ish) fixation of mine
Nice signage
Good video my friend!
@@250renfe thank you
Very surprising since it would have started after they cancelled all the projects Also, why is there a no overtaking on the left sign at 0:41?!
it was approved for safety reasons much like the heads of the valleys scheme not as a relief scheme or to increase capacity, if you look to the west of Wales the roads there are superb high quality single carriageways that have ultimately improved visibility, my mother and father and my family used this road until we moved to Newport in 2016 when I was 10 I remember vividly it would snow quite bad up there and my dad had to stay in work overnight and the road was on more of an incline then which has mostly been levelled out during this reconstruction as for the signs though I'm not quite sure, that is a bit strange
Thanks for a great informative video. Your highlighting and information at the junctions is an added bonus as it gives a clear perspective and clarifies our bearrings on the ever-changing major road works. Your video has clearly revealed the progress and developments and gives us a prospectus on what we can expect from the new road layouts.
