Overthinker - Dance & Contact Juggling @NubluNYC
"Overthinker" is a work-in-progress exploration of dance and contact juggling. It was presented at Nublu (NYC) in August 2024 at "Life is Good".
All my gratitude goes to Huurock and DJ SC-One for the organization and to everyone who showed up and all the great performers at that event. This short piece is part of an on-going artistic research, with the support of the city of Neuchâtel.

They went on for many more rounds but I only got to film part of the exchange. Thanks a lot to all of the ones who were too, Boppin Ron, Midnight, Earthquake, Goldmine, Keumsae, and all the ones whose names I still don't know. It was truly a blessing to be there for the reopening of the session in Homeland, to feel so welcome in that environment even though I come from another culture. All of y...

Right after coming back from a trip to the USA, we had the chance to perform with Live Beat Events. Amazing to feel the difference in terms of technique, heaviness and illusion after the hours of practice. Here's a small exploration of Pantomime and Popping with the suit, while waiting to build a longer show called KALEIDOSPOP. Booking inquiries : info@livebeatevents.ch

Feel free to use these resources however you want, but please remember to flip what you learn and to do it in your own unique way, in order for the style to keep growing. hi, i'm a noob, or rather, i follow energy as i dance, so do kind of locking/waving..and always improvise..went to some classes and only improv resonated with me.. waacking for example, was not cool because they all follow patterns and do sequences etc.. i'm trying to find an answer..i love tutting, waving, waacking, locking etc but the thing is.. is it all about learning the patterns and sequences? how do you guys improvise? it DOES look like all these crazy dancers bending their bones follow energy in music, but yet they seem to follow patterns etc? is it that the techniques one learns becomes kind of embeded in them to the point where they just naturally improvise without thinking about 'technical' part anymore>? or do they more or less just create new patterns and become very good at 'executing' them? p.s wouldn't be worried too much, but i love to just follow energy in music and wonder if pushing myself to learn technicality will hm..add interest to my dance..or should i stick with what i do and see if it develops into something new/different..(i started recording myself and have no clue if it's Any good) thanks in advance for any input anyone x

      What's very cool about improvisation (or Freestyle) is how you can approach it however you prefer. Some people dance purely based on feeling and spontaneity, others learn complex sets of techniques, some do both... that's up to your individuality. If you really want to be fluent in one or many specific styles, it will definetely help at least to learn some basic foundation (basically to get the vocabulary, grammar and rhythm of the style). You could learn it one movement or concept at a time, or learn sequences, but at the end of the day you really want to understand the basic rules behind the foundation in order to play with it in your own way. If you don't like sequences or patterns, you could just think about what are the main rules or principles that define the thing you want to practice (geometric shapes and angles in the case of Tutting) and start freely playing around with it. Finding other people to practice, mentors and people who inspire you will also definetely speed up the process. Classes are hit or miss... but there are some teachers out there who really know how to focus on freestyle. At the end of the day, learning technique will never make you worse, it'll just open up new possibilities that you are free to use when you see fit. Keep going and keep having fun with it !

    • @philemonfluckiger5093
      @philemonfluckiger5093 Рік тому

      You're right, those patterns are probably a bit too advanced for starting out. It should be fairly easy to figure them out after working on some basic tutting angles, boxes, king tut, etc ! Feel free to ask if you want me to send you some video ressources
