If you add a powerful bass transducer underneath, you could vibrate the sand flat to start over. A bit noisy, but impressive the first time. Maybe you can even change the frequency to get cymatics-type patterns.

Awesome! I just built one using an XY configuration and it is not nearly as good as yours. I saw the Sisyphus architecture like yours but couldn't appreciate how good it would be. Nice job!
