Im just a musician, singer, pinballer and programmer from Norway, trying to make sense of this life, and this is my channel where I will be posting some stuff related to life, music and who knows?
I am behind the norwegian heavy progmetal band Frail Grounds and also doom metal project Death Of Giants, and also very active in the norwegian pinball scene. Send me a message if you want to know something about any of the above :)

Distance (Death Of Giants - Cello) The funeral of Sandra Søbyskogen song #2
This is the second musical piece "Distance" (Death of Giants) performed on cello by Ingeborg Torvanger and Ellen-Martine Gismervik, in Sandra's funeral 20th may 2018.
This song was originally written from me to her during our first two years having a long distance relationship Norway - Austria. The song is being rerecorded and featured in the upcoming album of my band, Death of Giants.
My wife, Sandra (Weidinger) Søbyskogen passed away 20th May 2018, after being diagnosed with brain cancer (glioblastoma) in 2014. In the two weeks between her passing and her funeral I (somehow) managed to put together a ceremony reflecting our love of music and shared passions, and I think and hope I honored her, and our, life in the best way possible.
Passing 3 years since her passing and funeral, I finally feel comfortable posting the musical pieces that was performed during this extremely sad but also beautiful farewell to the amazing person that was Sandra.

Both Sandra and I loved Game of Thrones (tv-series and book series), and I knew I wanted Rains of Castamere played on cellos in her funeral. For me cello's are the saddest instrument I know. Im sure she would have loved this rendition of The Rains of Castamere, it is a deeply brooding and melancholic piece. In loving memory of Sandra Maria Søbyskogen (born Weidinger), 14.03.87 - 20.05.2018. Cello duo performed this at my wifes funeral, she loved Game of Thrones and as a side note, when we got married and walked down the aisle, we had a cello duo play the game of thrones theme song, as we thought rains of castamere would be slightly too much at a wedding.

Thanks for your comment and condolences! Just to clarify; My wife passed, and Roy was so kind to set aside time to sing this song at my wifes funeral. There is no family relationship, but a very nice gesture of him.
One other year has left my life, One year bygone so soon. These were the days i sacrificed, These days were lived for you. Some came with winter in white, Some days were blown away, Some came with sultry summer nights, Some with October rain... Oh, how i long for utter silence, But who am I to know, When rain will turn to snow? If life brings another day...

This is one of the saddest and most beautiful scenes I've ever seen in my life. My condolences, you are an incredibly strong man, thank you for sharing this moment, despite this being so sad you can feel it's full of love. Without meaning any disrespect, I remember having seen an interview that I can't seem to find again, where, if I'm not mistaken, Roy comments that the inspiration for writing "My Dark Symphony" was at the funeral of a fan, a wife who had passed away. I believe this might be that moment. It's another incredibly beautiful song. Your strength and love is inspiring, God bless both of you, may she rest in piece. Thank you again for sharing.

I too found this searching for Roy. I don't belong here as I found this searching for Roy, however I'm another person who is suddenly aware of Søbyskogen. Hopefully that means something in some way. I'm sorry for your loss.

I usually don't write on youtube videos. But knowing the strenght you've been having all these years. All i want to tell you is thank you for sharing this private and emotional moment with us strangers. I lost my mom just 3 months ago, from cancer. We fought for 4 years. She was trully amazing. And i didn't have the honor to meet your wife but i'm sure she was an extraordinary woman. You are a very brave man because we have to be brave in order to share, to let go, to let happiness come in. I didn't search for this, it just came up in my recomendations, but i'm glad i clicked. Rest your beautiful wife and my beautiful mom in peace. They are truly proud of us.

The combination of such a moving song with the very sad occasion, needless to say, brought me to tears. Hope she's at peace wherever she is, looking down on you and blessing you, the way you blessed us by sharing such a personal and beautiful moment... Hey Morten, i also ended up here by searching for new Roy stuff. To be honest, I don´t know if i would have shared this, if i was you. It is a really personal decision and i hope, after three years, you decided to do this, because you have new faith and new strenght and can leave the past behind although Sandra will always be a part of you, that she surely deserves. I wish you all the best from germany and i thank you for sharing this peace of music that is much more to you than for me and i treat it with that respect.
Appreciate your comment, I can understand that for some it is a too personal moment to share. This moment is something I kept close for three years, and as one lives through and process grief I see aspects of life in different light after a while. I realized that this was a moment maybe not many can relate to, losing a partner,wife, best friend at such a young age, but sharing this special moment at the end of the ceromony with others was something I wanted after these years and was a step in moving on ahead with my own life. It is also a way to remember her. No one will know her like I did, but the emotional performance Roy does here reflects so much of how I feel. This is still at times a unreal moment to look back at, to think of what Sandra (and thereby, me) went through. That is something I will probably never come to terms with.
My condolences to you and her loved ones. Thanks for sharing this sad, yet beautiful, personal moment. Big hug from Argentina.

Thank you for your comment. We both loved game of thrones and actually the game of thrones theme was played in our wedding, but for this occasion this song felt more correct with its sombre mood. I can understand you though, I would not have played this in any wedding :)
