This very rough and raw clip was captured at Jack White's Blue Room in Nashville the night after Chagall Guevara rocked the Ryman. Members of The Perfect Foil backed up Russ Taff for an impromptu romp through Charlie Peacock's "Down In The Lowland." As you will hear in my conversation with Russ, Steve Taylor, and John Mark Painter (playing bass here) - this night - and this performance - served...

JJT On Location: Bolton's Hot Chicken and Fish
Переглядів 264 місяці тому
Hot chicken? Sure - whatever. Most of us locals are kind of tired of hearing about it. But I have loved Bolton's since before we even moved to Nashville in 2007. Trendy or not - their fish is awesome. (But - be warned - their idea of "mild" has drifted over the years.) I do take a couple of minutes in this episode to reflect on an entire side of Nashville that has been - in some cases very lite...

Blessed to be there. Rock on Carlton!
as the bass players has longer arms than a gorilla he needs to keep his bass at ankle level
1989, middle of the afternoon, I was walking through a field in Bushnell, IL and heard “Over My Head” and ran to see them. I’m 52 now and their music has been the only constant in my life. That day @ Cornerstone changed my life.
One of their best compositions, set in a constellation of their other sublime songs. I'm so happy that I have been following them since the later summer of 1989.
“Stunning” 😂😂😂😂😂
and you were right……these guys are pretty good……not too shabby….
Grady you dummy…….lol
Is Scott Burch in this crowd? Mark Z wants to know…….hope all is well big guy…..
❤
Jerry is in his 70's and still hits the skins harder than I ever did back in my prime. Much respect to this entire band, and Texas represent!🤘
He's 66. But yeah.
@@drumrnva I must be thinking of Dug. But still impressive
@@jbm0866 I saw them in 198-something. I don't remember who they opened for. Maybe Billy Squier?
Please please play in Wacken!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is where you belong!!!!!!!!
Hi! Who is Furler?! From the Newsboys?! Thank you!!!
This song always gets me 😢
King's X. Truly one of the most severely underrated bands in the world. Truly. Songwriting. Vocals. Musicianship/craftsmanship. Talent. Studio production. Live performance. These guys got it all ...& did it RIGHT. Music ...how it's supposed to be done. These guys rank with the best of the best of the best of 3-piece bands ...& the best of bands, period, regardless of number. I'm so grateful I was able to attend as many shows as I did in the past...especially those I attended along with my late wife. My real life Goldilox.
Damn ..just got emotional🥲
Have a great hike John!
Fantastic band 👍🤘
Long arms
Give it up to the guy on lead vocals behind the camera.
Great look of Nashville! Lookin' good JJT!
I grew up in east Nashville Shelby st. Not far from Shelby Street park.😊
“You’ve gotta write this.” Thank you Zach!
i look at you and i know who you are your just a little bit too far from my home but please dont get me wrong even though it has been long i hope i never sing my last song without someone
One of the best bass tones in rock.
Dig this tune 😁
A really heartrending country song, excellent rendition. I'll use some of the ideas myself.
Thank you. Thank you for this. I needed this. Thank you.
King's x has the best singing audience in the world. Damn...clean singing in time.
Every time I hear this song it makes me cry. Thanks King's X for this tears of joy.
😢meeeee too
The album version is wonderful. Letting the audience sing it because your voice is fried is beyond dull and boring. Retire guys. You abandoned your faith and waisted 30 plus years of my life. I know I'm not the only one that feels this way. The last album sucks. Sorry guys. I feel betrayed by my favorite band.
Wow. Its like church.
Obviously these are King's X fans at a King's X concert...but STILL....I never cease to be amazed at how probably 99% of the crowd knows ALL the words...AND the harmonies...AND the syncopated phrasings....I mean it's not like "Goldilox" spent months and months on the Billboard Top 40. What a great great song regardless!
Ty uses Orange
Sound so good live…
🙂↕️
Jerry Gaskell is one of my personal drummers. Edit: I wrote this before I realised he didn’t fucking play much on this haha
Thanks for this.. this is awesome. 🎉
Fantastic :) Any more .. ?
Very well done, Great performance.
PAUL CARRACK ORIGINALLY SANG THIS TRACK ! BUT GLENN TILBROOK CHRIS DIFFORD ARE AMAZING THERE STILL PLAYING THESE AMAZING TRACK SINCE THE 70S
This was so fun! Thanks everybody for setting this all up! 🎉
How do you interpret the meaning of this song? Moment of conversion?
The original song was an old slave spiritual about deliverance - most obviously about the transition through death to life eternal (Jordan River standing in for Styx - Michael being the archangel,) but as baptism is a picture of death into life that works too. I think the slaves needed hope in eternal life in heaven to help them endure the pain of life here. What I always loved about this version is that it opens a heavy and painful album about isolation, abuse, loneliness… but it must be about more than just a moment of conversion, I think. It’s about deliverance from pain and death into everlasting life.
@@JohnJThompsonamazing 😮
Got to sing this Last Thursday 03/07/24 in Newton NJ. What a memory I will have. Met Gerry and Dug after the show and they were beyond cool. I have been a fan from The beginning. Now I can die happy. Thanks Kings X l. Truely one of the best most underrated bands ever!!!! 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
I was at that show and it was awesome!
Found my way here via your website after a Tonio K. search and finding an interview on your site. I bought my first Tonio K. CD from your shop! I also remember that you had a boom box that you had a name for. Good to see True Tunes is still alive in some way.
I’ve seen EVERYBODY live. Nobody and I mean NOBODY sounds as good as I Kings X Live. His bass tones are INSANE!!!!! And let’s be honest here, is there a more underrated guitar player walking the planet? Maybe Ian Thornley but other then that,… nope
Legends.
Excellent. 👍
Theres a famous song called Goldilox? Ive never heard of it.
❤ BRILLIANT, EXCELLENT, MUSIC FROM THE HEART KEEP IT UP PEOPLE, RAY TWELVE STRINGS U.K
Oh my goodness! This is some powerful shit! I love it
