I remember the first time I visited the battlefield . Dad and I started the walk down near the river and followed the flow of the battle up the hill to the mass grave site. That was June 1976, 100 years after the battle. Years later, after my time in the army, I reflected on the hopeless feelings these men must have felt at the odds and how there were often 2 markers together, indicating to me that 2 men fighting back to back in their last moments. Thanks for visiting there and letting me remember

That is so interesting. The walk up from the river would give such an amazing perspective, as would your time in the army. The placement of the markers speaks volumes, without a word spoken. Thank you for your service!

    • @secondchancesmindset

The town was created when there was gold discovered in the nearby creek. Large numbers of people moved into the area hoping to get rich. Soon, they discovered the gold ran out. A few people, and their descendants, stayed in the town, but eventually they abandoned it. The state bought the land, preserved the town, and created a place for visitors to come and explore.
