I wonder how these compare to an Ugly Stik Bigwater Rod in the same size & class. I'd be used from the shore or pier, pretty much the 'ol bait & wait method of fishing for striper s and halibut. Of course big sting rays and sharks get involved too.

One thing you should try that I saw another popular fishing youtuber do when he was river fishing in a current using shrimp was he took his circle hook and hooked the shrimp so that the hook and shrimp basically became one with a little of the tip and barb exposed out of the end but when he did that he kind of weaved the hook into it by zig zagging it back and forth to make the shrimps muscle fibers basically grip onto the hook and hold tighter. Seemed to be a good idea Im about to try it here in like 20 minutes itll also be my first time ever trying shrimp for catfishing and Ive been fishing for over 25 years now 😂

Actually just switched to a circle hook because one of the last 3 channels I caught on Sonny's blood just about swallowed the whole rig so no matter how hard I tried to fight out the treble hook I couldnt get it out and the swivek bent so bad I just lost the hook and by then I had to throw the fish back in because its color had changed so much. Hoping its body acids will dissolve the hook enough to clear the mouth but I may have inadvertantly harmed the fish beyond repair. About to go back out there to my pond now and will be using one rig with a circle hook and one rig with a treble hook the treble hook rig I will be holding onto the tight line with my finger the entire time so the second I feel a jolt Ill set it which should diffuses any issues of swallowing or attempted swallowing. It always hurts knowing a fish you intended to release may not make it at least for me it does.

Sonny's is the best by far only thing that comes second is Primo. And a trick that works very well but that a lot of people resent and I understand why is to spray it with WD40 before castinf.

Take it from a fellow Michigander. Purple Plow Jockeys are by far the best pre rigged worms. I've yet to find a better lure and I tried almost everything. Any pre rigged or self rigged worm will do, but Kelly's wild grapes are insane. I caught my largest bass with a purple plow jockey and a childrens disney princess rod lol. I'll probably never top that combo.

I know he said the best is with live bait but I have a question in a river with heavy current would this help cut bait get hit more

These rods are fantastic. They are light strong sensitive and super cheap. They are much better than the berkley striper rods and better than the berkly catfish series. The other 2 are thick wall glass and a lot heavier than the big game, thin wall . Customized mine by removing the foam and black taped it. Way nicer. Paired with a shimano spheros 5000 use it for big swimbaits for trophy stripers

I have luck using rattles on cutbait in fast current from shore in about 14 to 25' .

I've been doing this since I was old enough to hold a pole and while I understand why you picked the hook choice I do think this should be the most basics of how to rig a telescoping pole. The fish I go for will change what I use for the hook/jig. I heard you say to stick with 8lb test and I have pulled in bass on my backup telescoping pole after the line on my first one broke so . . . .despite the area I was fishing in being filled with bluegill and pumpkins there can always be bigger fish caught on a pole as well. I change the bobber placement depending on the depth of the water, weeds, fish, and the depth the sun is going into the water and when you wrap up a telescoping pole sometimes the bobber just doesn't sit in a great spot or you take it off for transport. I really prefer a 3/8 in or 1/2 in pencil Thill Bobber if I am fishing for sensitive fish or fish who steal bait easily. A foam bobber is not very sensitive when these poles were originally made from wood and so were the bobbers we used with them that were perfectly carved to be very sensitive. Please use a hook, jig, or your choice for the fish you want to catch in the area (weeds or open water) you will be fishing in.

Sonny’s bait is the best we’ve used! Absolutely kills em on the Mo river. We’ve had times where everybody on the boat is hooked up at the same time!

I just bought one from a local Walmart store and it seems that the nob on the side ( spool tension knob ) doesnt function like a tension knob. Is it supposed to or is it just a bearing cap? my other baitcaster has a spool tensioner on it and works as it should. Let me know so I can return it if its messed up.

What brand and size float are you using? They look like Comal Tackle floats.

Crankbaits are the only way ill fish. When nothing else works a crankbait at the right depth is gonna get em. Keeps it out of the weeds. I got a monster last night in the shallows on a floating Rebel. It was too big for the net and he was barely hooked. So sad.

My go-to stick baits for trolling Erie are Berkley Flicker Minnows for deep trolling, and Smithwick suspending Rattlin' Rogue especially during early May when those Walleye are up in shallow waters. Everything blasts the Smithwicks, and you only have to throw them 20-30 ft off the back of the boat to get them into their ideal 6-8 ft depth ranges...I've caught many smallmouth on them (some huge), walleyes hammer them hard. It's fun to catch smallmouth on the Smithwick suspending Rogues and watching them rocket out of the water when they're hooked.
