Benzo Withdrawal Recovery with Natural Remedies
Benzo withdrawal and full recovery is possible, the brain is remarkably repairable through neuroplasticity, in this video I discuss how to use natural remedies to speed up recovery of the benzo brain.

www.balancingbrainchemistry.co.uk/peter-smith/195/A-New-Approach-to-Speed-up-Benzo-Recovery.html
The benzo brain has too little GABA and too much glutamate activity.
GABA puts the brakes on the brain, it inhibits synaptic firing,
Glutamate speed the brain up it increases synaptic firing. The result is the brain is speeded up.
Stimulating remedies and treatments even simple things like B vitamins may cause increased speed and make things worse unless they are balanced with remedies that help the brain to control its speed.
To help overcome this we can combine remedies that support GABA activity and control glutamate.
Some people say these remedies can act in the same way as the benzos, that they could cause a similar problem to the benzos, but natural remedies and should be avoided. But the natural remedies do not desensitise the brain to GABA or increase glutamate activity like benzo drugs; the science says they don't attach to the GABA receptors in the same way as benzos or at all. Also in 30 years in practice, I have never seen any evidence of this; no one ever became addicted to the natural remedies.
There are a lot of natural remedies that are neuroprotective preventing further brain damage and others that boost neuroplasticity to help stimulate a more speedy recovery.
After benzos the brain works to regenerate and recover balance, this is the brains natural neuroplastic capabilities, but for many people, the aftermath of benzos can last for years as the brain struggles to recover; sometimes recovery is
It's becoming increasingly understood how to boost neuroplasticity and that the health of the brain is something we can influence and change. Many natural remedies can boost neuroplasticity as can many other things from specific foods and exercises, intermittent fasting and new techniques like HYPER-thermia treatment. When you combine
I first developed a combination of natural treatments to work on my own failing brain health in 2012 since then I've been using it in my practice for drug withdrawal recovery
CAUTION: Stopping psychiatric drugs, especially abruptly can be dangerous, withdrawal effects may be severe, disabling or even life-threatening.

Thank you Mr. Smith. I started taking kratom as a way to stop drinking, using cocaine, and managing adhd, but it had serious consequences physicaly socially and psychologically so I decided to quit cold turkey. My girlfriend had a prescription for lorazepam which she only knew as being an occasional sleep aid, and so as I was dealing with insomnia and restless leg syndrome from rapidly quitting kratom I started taking her lorazepam over a 2 weeks period, between 1 to 3 mg/night depending on my ability to fall asleep. After just 2 weeks of use I am going through intense withdrawals after running out of the pills. I didn’t realize until I looked it up that these new withdrawals were not an extension of my kratom withdrawal but are most definitely from the benzo. I am currently in a hell of my own making, so I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with people going through this nightmare.

As I understand it Kurt Cobain never actually took lithium carbonate for his bipolar disorder or ADD. He was also using recreational drugs and possibly pills so his brain chemistry would have been very (tragically) messed up. The low dose lithium orotate I use is not strong enough, on it’s own, to fully stabilise bipolar but it doesn’t nave harmful or unpleasant side effects. To stabilise bipolar I combine it with other supplementals to reinforce the effects.

When you are tappering off a major benzo addiction you need to donit slowly. Very slowly. Never cold turkey tapper off of benzos. Benzos withdrawl can be fatal.

    • @NaturalMentalHealthTreatments
      @NaturalMentalHealthTreatments 18 днів тому

Yes that’s right too rapid a withdrawal can cause seizures and even be fatal. This is common knowledge and can easily be avoided with a slow taper. The other issue is that even when person does a slow taper that avoids these risks many people still experience terrible withdrawal complications. Benzos alter GABA and glutamate function in the brain and unfortunately many people’s brains are unable to recalibrate GABA and glutamate function back to a healthy (pre-benzo) balance. I’ve met a few people that quickly recovered within a couple of months, for many others their brain will recalibrate over 18 months or so, which is a terribly long time to suffer; but for too many people recovery takes even longer and can even stall or fail to progress at all; this can lead to years of suffering. In my practice I use supplements, diet and other therapies to boost neuroplasticity, There are only a few of us but there are other functional medicine practitioners doing the same. The advice on the internet is terribly behind when it comes to explaining what can be achieved by boosting neuroplasticity. I developed these techniques to treat mental health problems including depression and bipolar and recover cognitive function from brain damage and ageing; than stared applying them to speed slow recovery from benzos and or kick-start recovery in people with static recovery. Some people argue that you shouldn’t use supplements to boost your neuroplasticity and should just wait and ride it out, they believe that supplements can do more harm than good. Well of cause the inappropriate use if supplements could be harmful but the correct use can be healthy. And what about people that are not healing at all, with all their neuroplastic capacity being cancelled out by daily wear and tear in their brain. And how can people heal if they have deficiencies of fundamental essential nutrients like omega 3 oils and magnesium to name but a few. And how can someone heal their brain if they have other health issues, inflammatory bowel disease for example causing ongoing inflammation in their brain impeding their neuroplasticity. I’m saying fixing these issues and enhancing your neuroplasticity can aid a quicker and more thorough recovery. But yes you point about too rapid and cold turkey withdrawal from benzos being dangerous is completely correct.

Lithium and iodine antagonise and displace each other i.e. take too much of one and it depletes the other. To prevent iodine deficiency from my lithium I take 500-600mcg iodine (from kelp) most days. Eating a little seaweed is also a good alternative. Don’t take too much iodine it can overstimulate the thyroid.

Sleep is like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute. So the bad news is that you don't have parachute, but the good news is that you discover there is no ground. And then you're just endlessly falling and you never reach the ground. So in a sense, what i'm asking you to do is to jump. And you don't want to jump. You're saying, I'm scared. I'm too scared to jump. And I'm saying, jump. God is telling you, jump, jump into infinite love and it's going to be great. But you're like, what if I kill myself and what if something else happens? I don't know. You just jump into infinite love. Take the leap of faith and you'll discover infinite love. And you're too scared to do it. But then eventually when you do it, then you're just going to discover that there's no ground. You're endlessly falling forever and it's great. But yeah, taking that leap is really difficult. It requires you to face your death. So of course, everybody is too afraid to do it. People are just to scared.

To be effective the prescription should take into account the individual health issues i a persons body. Eliminating specific sources of inflammation is critical, this varies from person to person. Failure to do this is likely to produce poor results and the results are likely to be undermined by the ongoing issues that are undermining ones neuroplasticity in the first place. Besides the need to individualise each prescription developing stacks of supplements and treatment combinations is what I do for my living in paid consultations; it’s taken me 35 years of study to develop my knowledge in this area. In the future I’ll release the information in video courses available to purchase. Amongst other things I tried exposure therapy, talk therapy, CBT, hypnosis, EFT and various medications. The only thing that helps is Effexor, but as soon as I decrease the dosage, I can barely leave the house.

This video was me telling my story of mental illness, it wasn’t a discussion about supplements. Also it would literally be dangerous and irresponsible for me share my personal supplement stack. If someone with BD takes a combination of supplements that are too stimulating for them it could flip them up into mania, put them into hospital or worse. You may think I’m being alarmist but I’m not, this happened to two of patients last year; they took antidepressant supplements (SAMe, inositol, carnitine) I had recommended they should not take and they quickly went manic. Even for simple conditions a prescription should be individualised, and BD is famously complex. There isn’t a one size fits all, the stack I take would put some people in hospital. The BD prescriptions I write for my patients consists of 3 prescriptions, one for manic phases, one for depression phases and one for maintenance during euthymic phases. The 3 prescriptions have very different effects and my patients get an explanation on how and when to use each one. My next video is going to explain the biology of bipolar disorder and I will mention some universal mood stabilising treatment approaches. Next year I’ll have a course on managing BD available to buy with detailed instructions on how to personalise the treatment.
