Country ride while rambling/ranting about Harley Davidson
I don't plan what I'm going to say in my videos nor do I do any proper research into what I'm talking about...which you can tell by the way I'm all over the place lol but with that said I'm honest to how I feel. The only planned thing I was going to talk about was how I didn't want to advertise Harley Davidson (by doing the Fatbob review) based on how they have been lately..and then my brain went into rant mode. it is what it is love it or hate it, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong..it will probably save me doing some research :D

Back again with a huge thing! I bought a new (for me) bike! I'm really happy with my purchase even though I didn't really expect to get what I did, I guess in my head I was leaning toward it but I could never really lock something in.

This video might come across as a bit whiny...because it is. In hindsight the overall ride was pretty good and I'm probably just used to riding on smooth roads for bigger rides and not like the roads we encountered on this ride but the Ride4Life rides are well organised and are for a great cause. To be honest I thought about re-editing this to cut out my complaints about the road conditions but...

So the bobber build is complete and I'm pretty happy with how it came out, the bars are very different and harder to control than the Tbars when driving slow but so much better at higher speeds and the perfect height but I'll be putting it through its paces in the coming weeks.
Yamaha XVS 650 - Budget Bobber Build PT2

Sadly due to not having a decent camera some of the footage was terrible due to being in bad light so I its a short vid today but I think it shows what it needs to :D It was time consuming and a lot of the time was spent soldering the wires from the controls ( Heaps of wires!! ). The cables were surprisingly easier than I thought they'd be so I was happy about that. I just want to reiterate thi...

Its time to do some customising on the Yamaha xvs650 custom. 1st part will be converting it into a bobber by replacing the fender and seat. The main parts have been purchased from Ebay eg: seat and fender. The Bullet indicators and numberplate/stoplight side mount has been purchased from BadBoy Bobbers in Melbourne ( badboybobbers.com.au ) Keep in mind this is an attempt at a budget conversion ...

Yamaha XVS 650 Mini review and Motovlog (rambling)

So I bought a new bike! Well kinda new, its a 2003 Yamaha XVS 650 custom. It's a LAMS approved motorcycle that L platers and P platers can ride. It has non standard bars(not sure what they're called) and its pretty low but I'm not sure if that's the difference between the classic or custom models. anyhoo hope you enjoy the vid. I'll eventually do a more in-depth review very soon. Recording gear...

You still using that seat prototype??
love the fender look. how wide is that? 180mm?
I’m working on a 650 myself. It was in a garage fire. Motor turns over. I’ve started stripping it down. There will be very little chrome. Everything melted but motor and tires.
I just installed 12 inch apes just like yours on my vstar. Where did you get longer cables? You’re bike looks good man!
Tell me you have a video posted. I just ordered the exact same bars for my 02 1100 V star. I’m wanting to see what they look like. Using stock cables and lines.
Im looking at buying one very like this but Ive never had a shaftie before. Any issues ?
Seat looks like hell to sit on
whats the size of your front rim? and where could you get one by chance
Nice build man!
Cool video. Lovin the tunes. Australia sure is a beautiful country.
Geelong Harley are the ducks nuts. If you're looking for after market bars there's an Aussie company call Barcraft that make after market bars for cruisers.
I'll check them out thanks mate
Your new bike sounds nice
Thanks mate :D
Cool
Harley Davidson is just a product manufacture WTF every one may as well get all out of shape with Samsung or Colgate ........ its a factory that makes stuff and in saying that the stuff they make an't that good I have had HD's in the past but got sick of the low performance and engine failures ......A factory making junk just like so many factories in today's world .......It's all brain bull shit
I'm hoping I don't learn the hard way with engine failures, fingers crossed I guess. This is my first Harley so I'm not up with the history of the engine issues they've had but I have a few friends with Harleys and they've been good and the power is more than enough for what I need but its only early days so I might jump ship eventually lol
@@wizfiz7056 Not to get locked into one theme is a good policy and to truly know what is good one must try the many. Otherwise one speaks from the butt....:-)
@@rolandkeith5322 I'm hearing ya mate, I've ridden a few types of bikes, modified sport bikes which are dangerous and all kinds of fun but not for me and I did ride a nice Triumph a bit (my Ex's) but didn't like the sound and the power for 800cc was pretty lack luster but hope to start doing some dirt bike vlogs soon on my TE 450 Husky. If I could afford it though I'd have them all lol
@@wizfiz7056 dirt bike with a TE 450 Husky ....Cool as that would be good to see some of that and nice bike for the job as well
Bro thanks for the day out & about.. Ya mic works mint.. Very little if any wind noise.. Sound sweet & Ya bikes got that sweet note to.. As ya say HD are trying to pick up the younger market but targeting lefty soy boy/girl who drive or push bikes & this livewire not HD.. HD is dyna, softail, glide, sporty that's their market & they got it sown up with that V twin sound other bands try to copy but unable to.. WE Kiwi & ya Oz kin speak & act a little different but WE mean no disrespect it is just who WE are and WE will never change our ways.. ps..As ya say We got the pip by HD threating a brother to get at another brother because he wouldn't bend over and comply with them.. ALL GO0D.......
Thanks mate I was a little worried about the sound quality but It turned out pretty well it just has to hold up to the abuse I put it through lol. I agree 100% mate, we are living in the age of the offended now. We act a little different down in the southern hemisphere than the rest of the world does, the more we like someone the more shit we give them lol I think that's true for both NZ and Aus for sure. Thanks for the comment brother I appreciate it.
Love it. Really changed the bikes look. Subscribed and looking forward to watching more of your vids.
Thanks mate, it was a great bike. I have a new bike now but i'll be doing some mods ;)
@@wizfiz7056 ah yeah I saw the Harley, lovely bike, agree the mirrors could do with swapping. Interested to see what you come up with overall. All the best and safe riding mate.
Amazing machine !! Check out my UA-cam Channel , too ✌🏽 greetings from germany cologne
Nice bike indeed not my type of animal but nice all the same....when I was 58 I joined the gym and man that has worked a treat
Thanks mate! I wasn't really expecting to find a Harley I wanted but something about it caught me. I was gearing up to head back to the Gym but alas us naughty Victorians got locked down again, so no Gym for a bit. I'm in stage 3 lockdown where I am and I haven't been able to get out and make some vlogs...getting withdrawals.
How tall are you? I want to buy the 650er but I don't no if I am to big😅
I'm 6'1 and for me it feels fine but I get told I look too big for the bike, but go for what feels right
So what happen to the chrome
The bars I ordered were chrome but the quality of the chrome was so bad I decided to go a different path and powdercoated them, but you will see in my latest video what happened to the ape hangers. In short, dont buy cheap bars lol
How did you mount the new fender mate?
I have to go on memory as its not like that anymore but I made custom bracket..I vaguely remember bolting it onto an existing frame bolt and making up some flat supports that went from the fender to the axle.
Ok I see thanks ✌🏼
My family friends owned the pub on ya left at the start and I went to the tafe in front of it
I went there a few times when it was open, was a nice place but i don't go out much nowdays lol of course even more so with whats happening now
Looks good
Thanks mate, I loved the look of it but the cops did not lol
Great video man enjoyed it heaps........... but if your thinking on a bike watch this please as this is what we made our mind up on ... ua-cam.com/video/RGkFPUeNUqc/v-deo.html
Good storm man :)
Thanks mate :D
Are u from Bendigo I swear I've seen it
Sorry for the late reply. I am from Bendigo but its no longer a bobber
Seat needs lowering
Yes I think you are right, i should have spent some more time tweaking it but Its gone a different direction now but if I go the bobber again i'll definitely do it differently.
Glad your back ......Sorry about the shit happens deal. And the cam looks good. And with bikes try b4 you buy but have a look at a Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster
Thanks mate its good being back making videos again and i'm glad I got a new camera :D There will always be shit parts of life, just gotta keep moving forward.
How much were the extended cables?
currently they are $248 at badboybobbers not 100% sure how much I paid at the time
Fender: $20 Seat: $40 Perfectly sized scrap metal laying around the house: priceless
can you throw a link to the seat ? if i ask really Really nicely :D
The other bars looked better.
Looks good but how tall are you? I'm only 5'9" and I needed a Vulcan. I felt cramped on both V-Stars I've ridden. 650 & 1100. As well as a buddy of mine's E-Glide and he's taller than me.
dude ,you are way to big for that bike
Shut up nerd.
Why do you guys making these bobber make the seat so high? Seat springs and a stock rear suspension?? That is not needed and defeats the whole purpose of the low rigid look frame. The idea is to make the seating position lower then stock not higher! If you keep your rear suspension your don’t need seat springs, give it a try, the lower seating position is much more aggressive then sitting up in the air!!! (I don’t know if you planned to use it in the final build but heat shrink tubing is the pro way to go compared to the plastic black tape on the wiring. Keep at it, good luck!!
wierd question time .. how tall are you ? .. so i get an idea if i would skyscrape atop XVS 650 :) .. nice bike btw
I'm 6'1 and the bike feels good but it looks smaller as the bobber. thanks mate
I do the same exact thing where you check the blinker every 20 meters just to be sure it's not on.
lol I've left it on too many times now i'ts just paranoia :D
fuck are you tall af that looks like your riding a virago i was going to go look at a xvs 650 but now im thinking its too small as im 6ft
Ill post a vid soon of the comparison between the bobber in this video and stock. The bobber looks much lower. I'm 6'1 and it felt good as a bobber....unfortunately the police didn't like the rear fender and instead of fighting it i just put it back to stock....for now :D
Do you have a link at all for the eBay site you got the fender and seat from?
Sorry for the late reply, you probably dont need the info anymore lol I couldnt find the same shop but this is the same fender. www.ebay.com.au/itm/Rear-Mudguard-Fender-For-Harley-Sportster-Bobber-Chopper-Cafe-Racer-Black-BS4/232720485621?epid=2020206292&hash=item362f38ccf5:g:u5QAAOSwkcFbDSW6
Nice Video and good cause too. And Yer some of the bumps eeeek as well as all of the crap on the road like you say by the wind. How was ya butt after that amount of time in the seat??🤔
The seat wasn't too bad about the same soreness as the stock seat so I was definitely happy about that. I was probably disliking the bumps as I had already repaired the bike from he last long bumpy ride and was dreading having to fix something else lol
I did enjoy the video on the review of the products and for the money like you say both seem to do the job. Oh and the long shots pipes you have sound better than my short shots V & H system but eh! I have less chrome to polish ( Not )
Thanks mate. that's a bugger about the short shots I'm looking for the loudness but a nice tone, looks like I need to do some more research hmmm
And talking about what bikes to get. Well it's what bike gives you the fun factor not so much the brand.
A friend of mine she got a hyosung gv650 aquila sport efi You can get a good one or a bad one she was lucky hers is good.
I had long hair once too. but now I am thinking to staple a long wig rats tail onto the back inside of my helmet.😳
I should have never cut mine off lol
You have done some good videos dude.
Thanks mate :D
Good Video dude the cam is in a good spot. A few things to add. Don't bother with an HD 883 as they go about the same as the xvs Yammi in a straight line however the Yammi will turn way better and stop better. Two, spend money on a power commander for the engine as it's the pre-set power curve on the stock ECU that holds the 650 back quite a bit in performance and a power commander will give the engine a way better advance curve on the power aspect. it's money well spent. Small video after a power commander install for you......link; ua-cam.com/video/utj1Rb42R1k/v-deo.html And Wow your bike will make a massive back fire on start up every once and a wile too!... mine does the exact same thing.Say every ten starts it will go Bang and then run.
Thanks mate, I've been hearing that about the 883 I was surprised and I love the look of them too maybe I should just go with the Stryker. Did you have to get a dyno after the new power commander? I think I'll have to invest in one :D Yeah the backfire is weird, its just a random start and pow lol
The Stryker is a very good bike and lots of good feed back about them is on the internet. And No need to Dyno the engine after a power commander install nor do you need to change the jets. And some power commanders will have a few maps to flick between as well. A re-jet is needed if you install a Kuryakyn Hypercharger but in saying that mine with the jet kit runs a bit on the rich side from 0 to 100 kph then swings over to lean from 100 and up. So the jet kit for the Hypercharger could be better. when I get some time I am going to take the heads off and re-port them and shave them down to get the compression up then I will do a full re tune. I have had my bike from new as I just love the look of them and technically the engines are awesome with plenty of room for hot Rodding. as it's a twin carbs OHV engine that's quite old school in it's design but that a good thing coz good power can be made form normal old school tricks. by the time I am finished with it i will be able to obtain 56+ Hp from all of that. then for shits and giggs I might get a set of cams made form billet by CNC. Keep in mind that a Harley-Davidson Iron 883 is only 46.7HP out of the box and is one second slower than a bolt down the quarter mile.
I will definitely check out the power commander but as of yesterday I have bigger problems. After a big ride and some rough roads my bikes has started backfiring like its possessed, mainly on deceleration but its always popped but these are full blown backfires, and I found an exhaust bolt snapped and thought that was the issue due to back pressure but alas it wasn't. I'm guessing the carby needle is sticking and letting too much fuel but taking into consideration I know next to nothing about motorcycles I will just let my mechanics look at it lol. I will definitely make a video about it all. I probably wont modify my bike too much if I plan to upgrade down the line but I've definitely got a soft spot for the xvs650, Its simple and amazing looking and you can change it to suit your style so much easier and cheaper than other bikes like Harleys etc
I understand about the up grade deal totally.I have had a few bikes over the years but I have settled down with the two that I have got now and that been the 650 Yammi and the Ninja. The Yammi is a total fun bike I can ring it's neck out around the streets and not end up in gaol for doing 260kph in a 60 zone and stuff like that were as the ninja I would. But the ninja is a awesome long distance bike and one of the best machine ever made but a bit bulky to pop over to mates place with or just go to the shops and stuff like that. plus the 1400 is so hot the amount of heat that comes off of it is amazing so I run that bike in winter mainly coz in summer one would BBQ them selves indeed.
One day i'll probably get a sports bike again and I love the ninjas so will probably go with one of those plus I guess I'm a yammi fanboy now lol. hey mate you remember the name of the power commander you install on your bike? I might look into it further but I couldnt find one from a google search
I like the look even though it's not for me.and the video is good as well.
Thank you very much, I was a bit hesitant to go bobber and I haven't any friends that has done it either so I just went for it and I'm happy I did :D
Yer some of them look so good and they are well I think anyway one of the best bikes to go Bobber with. Mine I have just gone the old lower the handlebars as mush as I can and I like the side profile it gives the bike. I have no photos of that as yet.
I'm definitely a fan of the Yamaha bobbers and I probably went toward ape hangers a little because I bought mine with Tbars and I really wanted a different look as well as comfort but nothing wrong with low bars at all.
how does it handle with the hangers?? Coz mine with the bars lowered is very good.
It handles pretty good, I would say better on the highway than my Tbars but slow riding its harder, atleast I find it harder slow riding but it might be just a matter of getting use to.
Good Vid dude.
Thanks mate :D
Your very welcome
Oh! My heart started pounding at the beginning of this video! I know this is in Australia, but that motorbike PoV with cars on the "wrong" side was doing me a scare!
I feel the same when I watch motovlogs in the US, not sure How i'd handle it but I'll be giving it a go one day! :D
The XVS is looking awesome good job on both the vid and the bike.
Thanks Mate :D
Just came across your channel and I like your videos man. And the old xvs 650 is doing well. keep em coming.
