    I have never put choke on, I just shut off fuel. What is the advantage to doing choke as well? Thanks!

    • @psmiley84
      @psmiley84 11 місяців тому

      Hey Ted, There really is no mechanical benefit; for me, I have several people in my family who may have to start the generator when I may not be home. Closing the choke on shut down means it is left in the correct position for starting next time (in the dark) so it starts on first try. I try to start it every month or two to keep battery charged but I don't want anyone making several attempts to start and wearing down battery or starter. Hope this helps and makes sense for you! Thanks for the comment. Best regards, P.

    Why did you build it away from the porch? Instead of building on to it?

      THe porch is a hunting cabin about 100 miles away, I want tp be able to haul it there complete and not work on it during the limited time I can be there. which is why it has the rear supprts as well

    Is it okay if i always forgot to move the choke before turn off the generator? I always let the choke on run when engine is off.

    • @psmiley84
      @psmiley84 2 роки тому

      sure is okay to do. remember though that when closed, the choke butterfly valve helps keep air from entering the combustion area. air and moisture are the enemy of the combustion area.

    Nice job I have trouble with the fan motor I could blow air with air hose it came on now I turn it on listening to the sound turn fan it comes on now it don’t

    • @psmiley84
      @psmiley84 2 роки тому

      Put a psi gauge on and check that you have proper psi being generated from compressor which is on the back of the fan motor. Check for tight seal on air filter cover, or cracked air hose.

    I decided to run the old gas out today and thought, “you idiot, you had the gas on since purchase.” Then I thought, “maybe that keeps things clean?” Turns out I’m an idiot and will run her dry for now on. Thanks

    Thanks for this video! Do you always shut off the generator like this every time or putting it away for a long time???

    • @psmiley84
      @psmiley84 3 роки тому

      I only run it about once a month. I always shut off fuel and let it run til it dies. I have become adept at removing cleaning and/or replacing carburetors which is almost always why small engines won't start. By running fuel out of the carburetor it doesn't get gummed up and this this cheap Chinese knockoff generator starts and runs everytime. I run it for 30-60 minutes to keep the battery charged and change oil and plug every 1-2 years or after 25 hours. So far, it runs like a champ. I have installed fuel shut offs on most other machines and try to do the same unless I run them 1-2 times per week. I would rather run them monthly and run out the fuel than remove and clean or replace the carburetor. Its easy but a pain in the ass, and for generator it's important that it starts as you usually need it in the worst weather the worst time to have to monkey with it to get it to run. Also installed a $9 hourmeter/tachometer on the spark plug wire. Worth $9.

      @@daedaetinez6406 Happy to help Best regards to wife, I only learned this spending hard earned money and time on multiple small engines. Change the oil regularly, run out the gas, try to use ethanol free gas if you can. Also, the carburetors are so cheap now, sometimes the whole kit is $10-15, for vital equipment there is no harm in keeping a spare in the garage.
