I think these at least deserve a honourable mention: - Saya, from Blood: The Last Vampire/Blood+ - Kyo, from Samurai Deeper Kyo
I need to make a new video. This list might be outdated. Thanks for watching!
@EpicTalez Fair. I just stumbled over it. :) You did remind me I've had Afro Samurai and Samurai Champloo on my TBW list for forever.
@ I am jealous you get to experience them for the first time.
Playing it one more time on reply. Great conv

when he is introduced he accuses a preist that they have: commited crimes in 3 states, commited clerical fraud and that they have fucked a goat. a man from the congregation stands up and shoots the preist and Holden LEAVES
That was one hell of an introduction 😂. Thanks for watching!
@@EpicTalez I read the book aswell
Something profound happened to me when Ned Stark got got by that twerp of a king. I realized what I'd been missing up until then. Now, if at least one major character isn't dead by the end of the book/series, I feel let down.
@@JeshuaHicksAuthor 😂 The experience was the same for me. Now I am an emotional masochist desperate for my next hit. Thanks for watching!
I think it depends on the story and what it's about. Abercrombie having a happy ending juat wouldn't make any sense. Shrek, in the other hand, would be weird if it ended any other way.
@@JeshuaHicksAuthor I completely agree. I could have been more specific. For stories like the first law, happy ending would suck! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much Epic for this amazing convo! Honoured to chat with you on your channel, and so happy you've been enjoying THE DROWNED KINGDOM SAGA!
Good job epic
Thanks for watching!
This is awesome.. hope to see more of these

Love to see this! Great conversation gentlemen.
Thanks for watching!
Been meaning to get to this, but I'm here now. Some good work here man, I've heard of some of these series, others I haven't. You're a good salesman for these books, I'll give The Aching God a look.
Glad you could make it. Aching God is a lot of fun! Thanks god watching.
This is a great video! The first book "A Drowned Kingdom" sounds like I'd enjoy it a lot. I may or may not just have added a couple of new books to my TBR. *lol*
Its such a pleasure to see you on my comment section. I am glad you enjoyed the video. When are we collabing?
@@EpicTalez It's always a pleasure to watch your videos! 😊 A collab would be fun! We just need to find a theme that would suit both our channels.
Hahaha. 😂 This was so well done EPIC !! Will check out the other books you’ve recommended here. Good work.
Thanks for watching. We should read a Grimdark book and discuss it. I would love the privilege.

Great recommendations! The ones I haven’t read are definitely on my list 🤘🏽
@@bardsandbooks Thanks for watching! I would be interested in a list you make.
I got about 10% through eleventh cycle before i gave up, was debating whether or not to give it another chance, would you say there is a particular turning point where it picks up? I was initially interested because i heard it was inspired by dark souls, being a dark souls enthusiast myself, but i didn't really see much of dark souls in it, at least as far as I got.
@@ruffinvangarr3943 Yes there is a turning point. Everything was very drab until that moment when everything changed.
@@EpicTalez how far through the story is it? 50% through? 60%?
@@ruffinvangarr3943 i’d say just over 50%. The moment it happens, you’d know because it turns the plot on its head. If you ever pick it up again, let me know.
I really enjoyed "The Blade Itself" good stuff.

This was such a great video Epic! Of these 5, I’ve only read First Law. Thanks for the recommendations!
I am jealous that you have the opportunity to read some of these for the first time. At the end of the day you aren't a beginner anymore because you've passed the rite of passage by reading the First Law. Thanks for watching!

im not done the book but ive been wondering if he is the devil or has relationship with satan?
@@GreenYellowRedish He is much worse than that. He is a human without inhibitions. He is a representation of the darkest parts of the human psyche. He wasn't created to be understood. He was created to be experienced and recognized.
@@EpicTalezhe is definitely some kind of demon, the devil or Jinn. There are references of him being made of/or from the flames. Or his appearance being very snake like. It’s been awhile since I read it but there enough hints. Plus the entire book is biblical in its nature. It’s safe to say it’s a continuation of of the Bible. (Edit) and to be clear he is multiple things. He is definitely an analogy for manifest destiny and humans proclivity for violence. A statement on many things, but in the setting of the story. He is meant to be some sort of supernatural demonic force
Awesome
@@marcusmanningtv thanks!
In my opinion, Judge Holden is probably an avatar of Ares, the god of war. A lot of people think he’s the Devil or the Antichrist, and they may be right. But given how The Judge thrives on violence, pain and suffering, encourages people to be as evil and cruel as possible and straight up says that war is God, I think that The Judge could very well be Ares himself.
I never thought of it in that way. Thanks for watching.
@@EpicTalezMy pleasure, I really liked this video.
Hey man, nice analysis. I try to watch book critiques with an open mind but went into this hoping you loved the series as much as me... Regarding kellhus , have you started the second trilogy? If so it's likely you won't like him so much after those books imo . Cheers !
I am starting the second trilogy very soon. Thanks for watching!
This guy knows. What an insane series.
Thanks for watching. This is one of my favourite series of all time!
I’m an artist who likes your story.❤
@@timothyphilmon thanks for watching!
Is Kellhus really the protagonist though? I'd say he's more of a deconstruction of Christ with superhuman abilities. He's not supposed to be relatable. The protagonist seems to me to really be Achamian.
@@JackAaron Thanks for watching. I see Kellhus as the protagonist because he moves the plot of the story. He is surely a deconstruction of Christ from a twisted perspective. I have only read the first three books but Achamian is constantly a victim of circumstance. Things are always happening to him. He isn’t happening to anything important unlike Kellhus so it’s difficult for me to perceive him as the protagonist. Just analyzing it here makes me want to read it again. Thanks for watching!
Can you just tell what did he do?

@@j85grim4 That would be so dope. If you like stuff like this, I did a character analysis on Paul from Dune. Check it out! I plan to do a whole lot more.
@@EpicTalez Alright. I had to ask the source as there are so many UA-cam videos that are reactions to other videos or reactions to reactions of reactions now it becomes rare for anyone to make anything themselves. Even using a.i. to make something themselves is fairly rare haha.
"3 minutes of conversation" had me laughing so hard😂😂. I had forgotten how short that talk was and for Nagato to instantly regret every decision he ever made after that was ridiculous. Thanks for watching! It was a fun video to make. I am glad you enjoyed it.
I really like your take on Grimdark, Epic. “Dark by necessity” perfectly describes the mythos of Grimdark fiction.
Thanks for watching! I am glad you enjoyed it.
I agree with you, Grimdark is more of a style than a genre. Though I could see how someone could argue it's a subgenre. I view grimdark in a similar way that I do noir, they're both unambiguously dark and pessimistic subgenres. But there are also themes about resilience and what sacrifices we'll make in order to make the world a better place. Great work Epic!
This video is actually inspired by one of our discussions. So thanks for engaging me. I agree with you it could be a sub-genre as well. I feel like writers have inadvertently added grimdark elements into their book because it's somewhat trendy now and as a result everything is now "Grimdark". A funny oxymoron I have heard is "Ethical Grimdark". Like what? Basically it's not defined enough in the industry to be be it's own thing. Thanks for watching man!
