    how did you divide the image once in blender? I'm trying to figure out what you did

    • @PolygonSquad
      @PolygonSquad 3 місяці тому

      @@gameblendingreality Method 1: For Example .. If you use 256 x 128 drawing (pixel art image ) then you can draw the height of the walls like 64. ..so when you inside the blender you can do 2 loop cuts (128 ÷2).. then you will have a edge in the middle.. then if you draw a window 16 px of height.. you can do 4 loop cuts (64 ÷4) you can plan like that.. Method 2: You can just use loop cuts and move them anywhere you want and cut like that( you will not get a perfect pixels on the texture..but it will not be visible that much, and no one will notice. Method 3: this is hard but .. You can do like 16 loop cuts.. then select all the necessary edges around the objects you want and invert that and remove other edges.. then you can separate them perfectly..

    I tried using Crocotile 3D because you model the meshes directly from the image, which makes it much easier. However, the tool is very lacking in usability and navigation. Blender is wonderful tool, but unfortunately, it wasn't designed to create meshes directly from images, and it's hard to find tutorials that cover this. I would like to see more tutorial videos focused on 3D pixel art.

    Looks great, but... why not use UVs? It seemed to me that working with UV maps would have been easier than working only with the geometry.

    • @PolygonSquad
      @PolygonSquad 3 місяці тому

      @@curtismiller4816 Yes that's true.. Using UVs are easier. But only thing is, you can get a perfectly matching pixel (for each object) count with this.. eg- if you have created a barrel with a height of 10, pixels, width 16px, then you can create half of a size of that 5x8 ,so pixel count match perfectly cuz we draw it before, but if you unwrap you will not get perfectly matching pixel count for those two objects.. (although it will not be super visible..) although there are 3 other easier ways to do these 3d pixel objects.. I will do a tutorial about that soon...

      With my voxel experience not going any farther then playing around in voxelmagica I guess using pixels seems a little easier from a 2d artists perspective. being able to quickly edit a textures tones and designs in photoshop before replacing the texture in blender for on the fly alterations seems easy to me compared to having to recolor voxels? There may well be a better workflow with voxels that I’m not aware of mind you (and if there is I’d love to know!) also afaik using voxels means you always end up with an outline where 2 faces meet on the corner as both sides of the voxel have the same color where as with 2d pixelart you get a little more creative liberty? (Again I’m not a voxel artist so there are likley ways around this that I’m not aware of)
