Converting an old Johnson outboard from manual to electric start
Переглядів 15 тис.6 років тому
Shows how to convert an old 1978 Johnson 50hp Seahorse outboard to electric start. There’s a diagram I drew at the end of the video to show how to run the wires.
First pls pon
Where did you find a starter that would fit. I have an 82 15hp I need to put this on.
D Bentley I don’t remember exactly. It was somewhere online. I’ll look back on my records and update you on what I find.
@@chuckwagon1971 Will this work on an older model seahorse 18hp? Mine is very hard to start and it runs rough, hoping I can add an electric start to make life easier.
Island Line Rail Productions if the seahorse is set up for a starter, it will work. My motor was set up so it could be converted.
@@chuckwagon1971 did you ever remember where you found your elec start stuff for your 15 hp johnson. What do you need starter and bracket, solenoid, cablesb starter button did you have to change the flywheel
D Bentley I tried looking for my receipts and couldn’t find them. But I did online searches. That’s how I found the starter. I did have to change the flywheel. There is a difference in size. It was cheap, I found it used on eBay. I may have gotten the starter on eBay also. The solenoid is common item, found that with just a web search. You will have to tap the bracket for the solenoid. I used a 1/4” tap/die
Links to where you purchased the starter ? And other items
no regulator for charging?
The outboard has a stator which keeps the batteries charged.
Add a dab of Silicon to those terminals spark and gas dont mix and keeps them tight and can alwas3be removed
I know i said screws instead of bolts. I was talking before thinking.
i also said wires coming from engine instead of from battery. I need more practice at this video stuff.
Great video sweetheart :)
