Long Term Debris Shelter - Shelter Update October 2024
I'd head that tree felling had started in the wood where my survival shelter is so went to have a nose on a Saturday morning. Did a deck clearing exercise in preparation for new leaves hoping that my shelter will survive the forestry operations and I can add new leaves in January - always like to have a class half full approach.

Long Term Debris Shelter - Shelter Update July 24

So it seems the owners of the commercial forest where my shelter is are planning to fell pine trees near my shelter. Went to check today and took the opportunity to re-season my steel pan which was badly needed.

Wild/Survival Camping - Bochastle to Brig O'Turk Through Hike - Part One

Part one of a three day adventure, a relatively short (10 miles) wander along the Great Trossachs Path near Callander, Scotland with fully loaded 'Armageddon' backpack. Three very off-piste wild camps with pretty much all my time spent searching out a good spot, setting up/dismantling tarp and hammock, cooking meals and hiking between each camp - not to mention feeding a few thousand midges a h...

Long Term Debris Shelter - Downsizing the Shelter Part 1

Finally bit the bullet and decided to downsize the shelter to make it easier to maintain and also make the back wall less steep so the leaves didn't just slip off as they have been doing. Took me three days and this video is the first day's effort. Part 2 coming soon.
Survival Camping - Tarp Drape Shelter in the Highlands
Переглядів 778 місяців тому
A little trip up to the highlands and a cheeky one-nighter on the hills in strong winds, rain and snow. I draped a tarp over a rock in about the only spot that was remotely sheltered from the wind. Not quite as luxurious as the glamping pod we stayed in the rest of the week but it did the job and I actually had a not bad sleep. The pod we stayed in was pretty awesome actually this is the websit...
Long-term Debris Shelter - First 23-24 Camp and Wool Blanket Sleep

Out to my shelter for first camp of my Winter season - one night only. Just a quick tidy up to get all the branches and twigs cleared out the way to make collecting leaves easier later on. Also my second attempt sleeping in wool blanket which was interesting as it was a lot cooler than forecast overnight.
Long-term Debris Shelter - Autumn Leaves In Spring (almost)
Переглядів 194Рік тому
It's almost Spring and I've only just managed to get an opportunity to get out to my camp to get the leaves that landed in Autumn/Fall onto my shelter - way later than previous years. I only had a day and a half so had to go like a maniac to get all the leaves collected up and on the shelter wall. I took the tarp away completely this time so just leaves taking care of waterproofing duties now. ...
Long Term Debris Shelter - Shelter Trashed by Vandals

First visit out to my shelter for a few months intending to clear the deck ready for Oak leaves falling. However, those plans were knocked on the head when I got there and found that some nice person had made some interesting modifications to my accommodation. It was still half dark when I got there hence the dodgy quality.

      At 4:16 yeah there was birch bark inside as well with some chunks of fatwood, the spark lit that first. Having more bark ready to drop in really helps getting the fire going. Thanks for watching, Andy

      @@waymarkerbushcraft Hi, no I haven't. I have managed to prise up the lid, but in doing so have messed the lid up rather. What do the slots look like..., how big.., where .. ?

    • @waymarkerbushcraft
      @waymarkerbushcraft 3 місяці тому

      @@andrewpreston4127 They are on the actual lid, just small indents only just big enough for a screwdriver. Unless they've changed the design in some way. You can see them quite plainly at 0:22 In fact if you pause around about the 1:00 mark you can see a slot clearly visible well contrasted against the paint in the pot.

    Had same issue and had great success with one of those hook tools that have a screwdriver handle. I strapped the rubber and they came out easily. Previous attempts with pliers, wrench, screw drivers all failed.

    How do you get around the traditional laws of Scotland, being of course "cannae dae that here, pal" with regards to pretty much anything to do with self sustainment, but more specifically camping and lighting fires in the wilderness? Been a few times I was oot in the rain and/or on my bike and lit a wee fire (responsibly) to stave off hypothermia... some "do-gooder" strolling by mouthing off about better not let the police catch me and all that. Hope you never get bothered with such nonsense mate. Keep it up!

    • @waymarkerbushcraft
      @waymarkerbushcraft 4 місяці тому

      Yeah, that's one reason why I go well off-piste. The access code does allow for lighting fires though as long as you're not in a restricted area like a lot of the Trossachs National Park. Thanks for watching, Andy
