Yikes. It sounds like you have had some terrible experiences! What machine do you use now? I'm curious if you have found something that works better for you.

@@CraftySoupVideo The one that eventually worked best for me was Spellbinders' Grand Calibur. It has some pretty thick plates, I can't see them bend in any way, the machine will break first. That is actually the main issue, that the handle might break off when the sandwich is too thick. So now, since my wrists have gotten older too, I am going for the Gemini 2, hopefully heeding everybody's advice and see how that works.

Good luck with your Gemini 2. I've noticed now that I've had mine for more than a year that it has "worn in" a bit. Now there isn't quite as much pressure and I'm having fewer issues with warping.

Glad you found a new one. I haven't done it on photos much, but I liked the look too.

I just used a liquid glue with a fine tip.

I don't have a video for that comparison. But here are my thoughts. If you don't plan on keeping those old heavy duty dies, then any die machine will work. However if you plan to use any of those old dies then you will want a Big Shot or The Big Shot Switch. (FYI the Tim Holtz machines are made by Sizzix which is the maker of the Big Shot. You are paying more for the branding, color, and a couple of "extra" features which aren't necessarily worth it.) The difference between the Big Shot and the Big Shot Switch is that the Switch is a powered machine. This is useful for anyone who has a hard time cranking the manual machines. But it is more expensive. There are certainly other brands that do the same, but I own a Big Shot manual and it is a good choice. One final thought. You may want to look into the newer Gina K Intri-cut machine. This is a manual machine that *can* still take those old steel rule dies. Its big advantage is that it has a dial system to adjust the machine to various die cutting needs. This makes it way more user friendly to "non-crafters" since you use the same die cutting plates and just adjust the dials for what you need. A good sturdy vellum weight is in the 36-40lb category. Good luck with your project. I know this video is a bit on the older side, but many of these vellums should be available on the market still. Good luck finding what you need.
