I love how all the staff at Ricks Cafe all come from so many different backgrounds but they're almost like a family. The German waiter watching Rick helping the Bulgarians and he cam barely contain his excitement makes me laugh every time
Bulgaria was chosen because it had long had the reputation of being the armpit of Europe -- hence the admonition, "go back to Bulgaria", rather than sleep with Louie an deceive your husband . . .
The acting this young woman does, just with her eyes, is extraordinary. Also, the silent communication with the eyes between Rick and the roulette employee is another example of how much you can communicate without words. Also the wink he gives Rick after the 'couple thousand less...' response is top notch. And when she does speak, she has such a sweetness in her voice, in her desperate pleas, that it makes for the rarest of cinematic viewing.
"Captain Renault's getting broad minded..." What a hilarious and dirty line for the times. Love Bogie's delivery. And this women has a truly beautiful face and eyes. Especially when she says "Will he keep his word?" with such desperation. "He's just like any other man, only more so." Another zinger.
& just like "rick" a did many beautiful things for people that i met & what did it get me nothing & all i did was forgotten by whom i assisted ! now just memories to cling to !
I live in Topeka, KS. I moved here in about 2000 (I am old and my memory ain't great). I was told a story by a guy whose word I trust. He said that there was a man who bought a company for $12.00 Million. Built it up for years. Sold it for $24.00. Kept half, gave half to his employees. That is CLASS. An old guy who was there from the start got $1.00 million. THAT, THAT was a beautiful thing.
Not many know this but Humphrey Bogart was a great Chess player...perhaps ONLY surpassed by Stanley Kubrick in Hollywood in skill as a Master Chess player...Bogart, (as Rick in the movie) has a few scenes where he is moving the pieces around analyzing positions as a metaphor for characters in the movie being pieces moved around by fate. Another nice touch!
Bogart is one of my favourite actors, he wasn't the best. There were others in that era that were better. But he had moments of brilliance, llike the moment at 1.50 onwards where he says " no-one ever loved me that much ", he portrays the pain in his heart at what she is saying so brilliantly. The reason he helps the guy at the roulette table, is because if that woman loves him that much, she deserves to have her wishes granted.
2:40 It is said that something similar in a Gambling Casino had happened to teh wife of the movie´s producer Hall B. Wallis. Reading the script he had insisted to put this into the final draft for the movie# Thanks for putting this wonderfull clip on Net. I always loved this scene
Casablanca is the greatest film ever made because it's all about love ..Yet you can't see any sex scenes. The 1940's audience wasn't as infantile as the ones that followed. They had to be❤️
Very 1940s. It's a cruel, corrupt, racist and immoral world.🌎But rules are rules and this is how the game is played❤️When you find out your soul hasn't died after all.
I'd sooner lived then then live in these shitty times
If you are a loner on Valentine's day... watch this masterpiece ! you will feel like a "hero"😊
what a scene ... what classic movie lines ... what a movie!

Life should be this way.
After having watched this iconic movie several times I recently realized that this is when Rick began to walk back towards the Light/Good.
What are the odds! 22 twice in a row!

every one else at table gets screwed
This film is just plain BORING !!! A classic ? I think NOT !!!!!
This scene makes me smile every time.

This very well written. Some says it is written on the spot.
Does anyone know who played that lovely, desperate, Bulgarian girl? A pivotal moment in the film, but who initiated it?
my god,Isee this movie two weeks ago ,I have to say is the best movie I ever see
One of my favorite scenes in the history of Hollywood. For a drama, Casablanca is loaded with wry humor. It never gets old.
My image of captain Renault has not aged very well.

The staff at Rick's Cafe were so memorable to me. They were from all different walks of life and were all close friends.
im 60 this movie gets me every time i watch it.
They could have stopped making movies after this one❤
I certainly hope that they remake this ... ... ... hey, hey, stop throwing things at me... ouch ... ok, ok ... I take my words back :)

"As honest as the day is long" 🤣
Rick wouldn't need to be so obvious but then, this is a movie. Need to make it clear to the audience.
Good scene.
In my humble opinion, one of the finest films ever made.
Why be humble about it? All the experts agree i a New York minute . . .
I loved a man that deeply that although my heart was broken, i wanted him happy over my aelfshess .
Dust in my eyes!
This might be the best movie of all time

How can a five minute scene have so many fantastic lines? Only in Casablanca.
"I'll forgive you this time but I'll be in tomorrow night with a breathtaking blonde. And it'll make me very happy if she loses".
Okay... We've established sympathy with the lead character. :)
Humphrey was this Rick fella ...seemless performance 🎰🎭
Those who are decieted & unloved in life, they always try to bring together lovers 💔
