Suffolk County Transit | One Year Of The New Bus Network (My Compilation)
Today, Tuesday October 29, 2024, marks one year since Suffolk County Transit had went over a major overhaul of their fixed-route bus network.
This push was made by the Reimagine Transit Initiative which has brought a new network introducing new bus routes, new “pulse” hubs for seven bus transfer centers, extended bus service year round, and much more. But the initiative did lead to many routes in the old network eliminated, but some were partially replaced by new routes.
Throughout the first days of the launch of the new network, a lot of bus riders and bus operators were not aware that the new network had launched which has led to total confusion and frustration. Barely any media coverage was available reporting about whatever is happening with Suffolk County Transit.
Bus riders had to deal with these following situations:
- Figuring out that their bus route and commute has changed.
- Left stranded with no service.
Bus drivers had to deal with these following situations:
- Getting lost during the new bus routes.
- Awaiting relief drivers at different locations during the middle of the bus route.
- Miscommunication by bus dispatchers and drivers.
- Dealing with no bus stop signage.
Although the new network provides what was mentioned earlier, I feel that there are still no improvements in on-time performance because of traffic congestion constraints across the county and by bus drivers awaiting relief drivers who come fill in the shift for them.
As well, the county is starting to add new bus stop signage as of late September of 2024 as they are currently working to place bus stop signage across the county.
Now, in this video, shows my clips of Suffolk County buses in the new network. Majority of bus fleets used in Suffolk County are several Orion VII NG Diesels, New Flyer Xcelsior Hybrids, and ARBOC Spirit of Mobility Chevy minivans.
I hope you all enjoy, and there will be more videos on the way.
Filmed with iPhone 13 Pro.

Welcome to my Suffolk County Transit video compilation, featuring some of NICE Bus and LIRR. Here you’ll find a ton of clips from 2017 through 2022 (except 2020 due to pandemic) that I have taken during my journeys within Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. Video taken April 8th, 2019 I thought I’d film this short video starting from Park Ave & Little E Neck Rd to South Bay Shopping Center. This was the 2:35pm run from Babylon RR to NW Babylon. At that time there were very few Gillig Phantoms In the SC Transit System because of the delivery of the ARBOC Small buses and New Flyer XDE40’s and XDE35’s. Those remaining Phantoms are currently retired. ...
