Welcome! As a trader for over 35 years, I'm sharing my trades as both education and entertainment for others to potentially improve their returns using options and futures.
CONSISTENT - MECHANICAL - REPEATABLE
The stock market can be difficult to trade and stay successful long term, but I have an edge that can put the probabilities in our favor...it is SELLING OPTIONS! And to make it even better...we sell options on futures!
As a theta trader, I collect daily, weekly and monthly premium and use the strategies that give me the best probabilities of success.
I employ a well-defined trading plan, using mechanical and repeatable strategies that take the guesswork out of trading.
I have over 30 years trading options and futures and I have tried everything in the market. Won and lost small fortunes, but have found that selling options (and more specially options on futures) is the most profitable trading approach over the long term!
Enjoy the ride with me.

Thank you for the video Tom
Thank you Tom. One of the best trading videos with so much info covered.
Ref using Stop v letting probabilities develop. Another advantage with earlier exits is the ability to re-deploy capital.
Sizing !!! Very Important Discussion, Thanks S o Very Much!!
Size is the killer. Always. The concept of scale will keep you afloat or sink you
PMCC disasters in bear markets!
then simply switch to pmcp.s. ,.............not that its so easy to time it.... likely get mauled before
I am not clear how to manage the short call if AMD price breaches your short covered call strike at expiration. Do you roll it up and out for a credit everytime, do you exercise the long LEAP call to cover the shares you'll be short (from expiring ITM on the short call)? do you close it out for loss? Not clear on the management of the PMCC in this scenario.
I didn't know that there is a standard pmcc versus one that is income pmcc which i think is what mark yegge does. this was great to see that based on the type of pmcc you do will dictate what strike prices to choose. super cool.
Tom i have been following you for a long time! And was a member of your discord. I appreciate all of your videos! Can you do a deeper video explaining the PMCC cash generator trade setup?
👍
Thank you. Very well explained and shown how to place PMCC
I think there are two versions (in simple words) for PMCC: (1) in the first version you calculate break even price first. Buy AMD long call 359 days out at Delta 0.85, strike 80, for $51.70. Your break even price is strike price + premium paid, so 80+51.70 = $131.70. Sell short call, 9 days out, delta 0.25, strike 129 for $1.15 credit. You can adjust your break even price: $131.70-$1.15 = $130.55. That’s a new break even price. So in this case, if AMD rises above 129 and your short call shares are called away, you are basically losing money ($1.55) unless you roll or close the short call early. If AMD remains below 129 you get to keep the credit and repeat. (2) The second version is more interesting but also confusing. It’s exactly the same setup like the above: Buy long call at delta 0.85 and sell short call at delta 0.25, same strikes, premiums and DTE. The difference is in calculation: If AMD rises say by $1, the long call is gaining $0.85 and short call is losing $0.25. You can close short call with loss and still make a good profit on long call: 0.85-0.25 = $0.60 profit. I think that’s what Tom suggested during last PMCC video, and it’s quite interesting logic. The only issue here might be that we are talking about potential profit on long call, not realized profit. So if short call is closed with a loss, and then AMD price drops, all the potential gains of long call are erased. Version 1 might be easier and safer. Version 2 is likely more profitable over time, especially when selling short calls close to ATM, and rolling or closing early.
With respect to version 2, If the stock moves up you could sell another in the money short call. This might be a way to protect yourself from a pull back even if you had to use working capital to purchase a higher strike for the new short call.
put on some ba 1122's to hedge the portfolio this week. getting paid to hedge is really nice!
Tom, great video. On the AMD PMCC, if AMD runs up past your short strike, how do you handle this? Do you buy it back for a loss, since you gained on the long strike and then sell another CC at a strike farther out of the money? I know what to do when I’m selling covered calls and I own the actual shares, but how do I handle when the underlying runs past my short strike in a PMCC? I would really appreciate your thoughts on how you handle this. Maybe you could even make a quick video about this. Either way, thank you for providing these videos. Very helpful. Thanks
I believe you buy back the CC at a loss and sell your leap which will be at a profit and should cover the loss and also make you a profit as well
Don't sell the LEAPS, you want to hold onto that otherwise you lose the extrinsic value. Close the short for a loss before expiry, but overall you will have gained because the long position (LEAPS) has increased in value. At an 80 delta, your LEAPS should go up in value 80% of the price move.
@@83willford selling the leap will not make you lose the extrinsic value. You sell the call which is intrinsic + extrinsic. Executing your call and then selling the shares will make you lose the extrinsic. My question is how to handle assignment. assignment on the short call will result in you being short on the stock with 100 Shares. The only correct way I can think of is to sell your leap and buy 100 Shares in the same order.
Yep, that’s kind of what I’m asking. I’ve gotten myself into trouble with the PMCC when the underlying decides to rip. Since I don’t actually own the shares, I can’t just simply wait and let them get called away. Maybe Tom can make a video explaining all the outcomes when the underlying takes off.
you could buy back the short -100 shares and then sell another call short and keep your leap as the basis position. You do not need to sell the long call. You can also roll the short call that is in the money on expiration day. You may need to pay a debit to roll up and out but the amount you pay has been transferred into the intrinsic value of your long call. Focus instead on the extrinsic value you collect every time you sell a call. You get to keep that no matter what.
Nice 2 videos back to back👻 King in the house !
Why 9 days?
Hi Tom. Thanks for all that you do and share with us fellow traders. Great content!
How to become a millionare in 2 steps Step 1: Be a billionare. Step 2: Divorce. Jokes aside, solid advices.
Fantastic opportunity for a Jade Lizard on /CL (oil)
A question on the IBIT PMCC, what do you do if your short term call that you sold is in the money at expiration? Roll that call out?
Yes, that means the long calls are up the same amount as the CCs have lost (minus the extrinsic), so yes, roll out and up and keep taking n premium.
@@TommKing13 and what do you do when your short-term call gets executed? then you are short 100 Stock. do you sell your long call and buy 100 stocks in the same order? because executing the long call will make you lose the time value.
@@danielmandoki5376 @danielmandoki5376 "short-term call gets executed? " you mean assigned right? lol.ALthough it can feel like an execution if one doesnt realize that most of the time it really is just not that big of a deal . . Never want to exercise your leap call as you are right about throwing all the time premium away. You need to act because the math on the trade you originally started with will have likely changed. For instance, if your short leap that was exercised was ... say ..a 55 delta...that has now morphed into a 100 delta stock so your,,,say.... 75 delta leap stands no chance against it so you end up in a losing trade if the stock rises further. This is my understanding and I hope someone will correct me if its not the case. So you buy back the short shares ..or --If your account supports the exercise cost, you could just sell another call at the money , leave the leaps alone and let the short call get exercised thereby buying back your short shares st the sold strike price and be done with it. There are surely countless other strategies. that I haven't the experience to list.
Tom , you said you "might roll" the TLT puts...didn't you say you NEVER roll? That you just take the loss because a roll IS a loss...I'm confused
Never roll was a year ago, when other strategies was win win, until vix spike in August a few strategies change
I hate rolling. Rolling is taking a loss and most often putting on a bad trade in an underlying that is already falling. However, my outlook on bonds has not changed and I am OK rolling them here if needed as I would be adding more if stopped out anyway.
Good theoretical advice and you could find zillion folks on the internet with this advice. I wonder if someone has generated millions(s) doing investing or trading why don't they show trading examples or plan to get to a million dollars.
All the war torn areas , California fires , going to be using a lot of copper for new wires , copper pipe in plumbing is less , but big pipe 1.5” is copper .
It might affect local pipe prices but not market copper
It will take a minimum of 2 years before the first home will be rebuilt. Maybe higher prices in 2 years.
@@snewogerg wondering how you come up with 2 years , can’t people start rebuilding right after fires are out ?
@otisshaw1 i work at a city building department in SoCal. By the time plans are approved is at least 1.5 years. By the time you get your insurance money, it's at least 2 years. If your on the coast, you have to deal with the coastal commission also. That should add a couple more years.
You are so right about house, it is a money pit! Mine cost so much for maintain that I can easily live in a much better rental with the same amount of money
Want to make a million dollars? Easy. Start with two million. Seriously, though-if you’re looking for ways to shrink your fortune in record time, here are a few proven methods: • Start a restaurant. Because who doesn’t love 80-hour workweeks, constant stress, and razor-thin margins? Bonus points if it’s a fusion concept no one asked for. • Invest in NFTs… in 2025. Nothing like buying digital pictures of rocks just as the market crashes again. • Buy a yacht. Maintenance alone will drain your bank account faster than you can say “bad investment.” • Get into day trading. Because nothing screams “smart financial decision” like staring at charts and praying your gut feeling beats the algorithms. • Open a theme park. Who needs business sense when you have a dream and a pile of cash? Just ignore the insurance costs. But if you’re actually serious about making money (and not just burning it for warmth), stick to the boring stuff: • Live below your means. No, you don’t need that third espresso machine. • Invest wisely. Index funds may not be sexy, but they won’t leave you broke. • Start a business you actually understand. Preferably one that doesn’t require you to explain it in 500 words or more. • Develop valuable skills. The world pays for expertise, not your ability to binge-watch Netflix. So yeah, if you’re dead set on making a million, just be smart-or at least don’t be your own worst enemy.
Awesome video! Very motivational video! I need to think more on some points you mentioned. I definitely need a plan! Thanks.
Thanks Tom very important. Video
Great advice! If you want success, emulate someone who is where you want to be.
Great video! Just wanted to ask what you think about $JEPQ or $QQQI as “passive income?” It’s around a 10-14% return.
Tom, I like the way you that you clearly explain things and are very direct without ever being sarcastic.
I am concerned about NVDA guidance based on: The Biden administration has issued new restrictions on the export of US-developed computer chips that power artificial intelligence (AI) Restrictions on chips sold to China. Also i think Goog would probably be higher if not for the govt's anti trust suit which hasn't been resolved yet and threatens to split up the co. Any thoughts on INTC rumors of a buyout or possibly a new CEO. Been there before though.
Huh, 10% a month! I would be trout fishing in Vancouver. Hey Tom, thanks for the videos. I think Trump may have just gave us something to work with.
Anti-compounding: get into trading and lose massive chucks of your savings in a single day.
Solid video, Tom!
Thank you Tom!!
Your BE on the trade is your long call strike + premium paid. 400 + 135ish for 535. If you sell atm for 4 and Q's are at 513 you are collecting 517, that's a locked in ~$18-20 loss if it gets assigned and you execute you long call. Hard to stay alive taking hits like that, especially weekly!
hello Tom, really good video, thank you. Hardly anyone talks about closing/buying back options early - this is what I also do with 90+% of my trades and it serves me really well
Will try to backtest it on spy. But on one hand it is indeed possible to get good premium cause of the IV at the money. But if you do it and every single week you Lose on the short call, and suddenly spy drop by 10% in a week, you just lost most the profit of your P&l on the long side. To me, rolling a call means you lost money. It's gone. Might be wrong but I think it is a bit risky. Spy is quite big, so I would try it on a smaller ticker, stable one, avoid tesla, Nvidia...cause volatility is too high. Imo worth a try.
So if you have BP and underlying did not move much, but your naked options are infliated by huge jump in VIX, best would be to wait it out? I agree everyone at the moment was thinking it will keep going down with vix at ATH
Hi Tom, great strategy! Many thanks. Two questions 1) What is your exit strategy for the long term call position eg at 3 months before expiry or depending on if you're up, down or around breakeven? 2) Do you trade this on ES futures?..I guess no assignment risk/headaches. Thanks 🙏
How do you do stops with tastytrade? I don’t believe they offer them on futures options
As I understand it, you buy a 80 delta Call about a year out, then sell at the money call each week. 1/2 the time those short calls are gonna be losers. only way to guarantee profit is to sell the long call at the same time of short call when price blows past it. But doesn't sound like that is what Tom is doing? Sounds like he keeps the long call on, and closes short for loss and does it again the next week. Maybe a better understanding how you manage and close these positions would be helpful.
Not sure why "Maximizing" was part of the description. Other than that, good video :)
Hi Tom great video. Do you have any idea how much you would have made trading just this over the last 5 years? I can see if you are flat to up every week, you can collect 20k (which is about 150%). But I’m always leery of CC because you cap your weekly upside at $400 and can’t take full advantage of +5% weeks but on -5% weeks you lose maybe $1500? The math doesn’t work for me. But maybe I overestimate the number of down weeks. I will look into joining the discord. Do you share all your trades? The +80% in 2022 would have been a game changer for me. I was happy to lose only 19% LOL.
Thanks for this video Tom. I currently just have full covered options access in my accounts (level 0?) , and I assume that you need spread access (level 2?) to do this PMCC strategy, am I correct? Is that generally easy to get? I do have a portfolio value over $1M. Thanks for any help you can give.
at least level 2. super easy to upgrade. Just klik on the highest level experience boxes for all questions. W that much money they ll probably bump you up to level 4/5 Thats the level where you can really blow your account up so be careful
@@tdiler12 OK thanks Tom. Yea I'll be careful for sure, only my life savings! Will paper trade this first to get the hang of it.
Hi Tom As I understand your description of PMCC it is buying a one year out LEAP at 80 delta, then sell a weekly call option that is At the Money ..... if I do this in SPY what if your short call ATM is exercized by the buyer. This would mean the LEAP call would provide the stock at a premium above the current price stock price. 0r i am thinking i would need cash in the account available over and above the LEAP to buy the stock to deliver to the assignment... I like the PMCC idea but this seems like an unusually high risk. Am i correct? Thoughts? Thank you, really enjoy your videos and info...
It would be a retarded move for a Spy call option buyer to exercise their ATM option because they would be throwing away their extrinsic cost they paid for the option which remains elevated in something like SPY until the very last moments of expiration so assignment risk is super low.
Thanks Tom
Poor Man's Covered Calls work great in a bull market, but they're a disaster in a bear market. Personally, I don't trade them, but if you do, make sure to allocate only a very small portion of your portfolio!
Thank you for calling out Trading with Ashley, someone hawking exactly what you’re saying about retiring on Palantir calls. Also, thanks for showing an example of how to put a trade like this on.
