Mahogany
Very clean.
Glamour shots coming on Instagram tomorrow Ben!
Nice video. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice work...I like the idea of the flip cart and plan on placing my table saw on the opposite side. Great video!
Let us know how it works out!
Sounds a heck of a lot more pleasant than a screaming router!
Great job Gary! They came out wonderful-I’m keen to give these a go.
Thanks Michael. They turned out better than expected.
Grat idea ! Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome
Nice video! Your bench looks fantastic
Very interesting video. Thanks for making it Gary. 👍 I experienced the exact same thing - so I now use a 24T thin-kerf blade for ripping on my table saw.
Thanks for watching. Here’s the follow up video: How to Sharpen a Sawblade (and Why You Should) ua-cam.com/video/bOaiEdpepRE/v-deo.html
Sorry, but I’m gonna be that guy… it’s safer to not wear gloves at the bandsaw. Glove caught in a bandsaw = degloving injury (major plastic reconstructive surgery required). If you get a cut without gloves, it’s just… a cut
Fair enough Scott. Fair enough.
Hey Gary: How far past the cavity did you start the mortise and tenon on the end cap? I know it should stop about 1" from the end of the bench glue up. I don't have the full bench build instructions as I did use them for my Bench build. Thanks and your work is by far excellent. Most guys are not willing to put that much attention to work. Should be seen and studied by anyone attempting to build a Benchcrafted Bench. By your hands, I think you are a surgeon. Thanks again, Roy
I had a TERRIBLE experience with the Craftex 8" Helical Jointer. The infeed table was not flat it was bowed and all my pieces were coming out bowed! I spent 3 months without a working jointer for my woodworking business. After struggling with busy bee they sent me a replacement jointer that they said they personally inspected before shipping to me and it had the exact same issue! Both infeed tables were not flat!
Weird and unfortunate. Mine is dead flat. What did they end up doing about it for you?
Really pretty design. Putting this on my list of things to try. Thanks for sharing, Gary!
Well Kevin, you better get at it because in case you hadn’t heard Christmas is almost here! Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
The first five seconds was all that was necessary
Ain’t that the truth!
At least use a salad bowl finish, just to make the contrast of maple/walnut pop. Great video.
I ended up using some leftover Minwax Antique Oil from another project. Thanks for watching Nathan.
Squirrelly is just the start of things. Great project and they look incredible but for snowflake purists these aren’t snowflakes. Snowflakes have only 6 arms, not 8. It would be really interesting to see how you would attack a build for 6 armed snowflakes… I can see where 45 and 90 degrees would be easier than 30, 60 and 120 degrees. I really loved your overhead bandsaw short, I always love some kind of wax or oil finish if it’s going to be around food or serving trays, can never rule out food spills. Thanks for sharing and have a great Thanksgiving… maybe you’ll get to try out a trivet or two.
My bad, thanks for calling me out!
@ they still look GREAT!
Great video! Thanks for posting this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've found great e-book on WoodPrix. Good solutions for everyone I think.
Beautiful Christmas trivets! 🎄✨ Glad you enjoy our mask, and that it gives you a comfortable and effective experience in your projects! 😷👌
The masks work great in the shop!
Sweet build, like the way all ur pre cuts puzzled together ( chevron dados ) THANX !!!!
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching.
Very kool work making them wat you sell them for $$$?
Thanks. I give everything away.
Squirrely! Awesome design and clever idea!
Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the design.
Great looking Trivets, Gary!
Thanks Ben!
These turned out great Gary! Definitely a good gift idea 👍
Thanks!
Precision accuracy boy
Beautiful bench
Thanks James. I’ve really been enjoying it!
Definitely enjoy the hand tools better, good work sir
Thank you for your kind words James.
I don’t know anything about wood species but I’ll say my favourite brand: king industrial
They are my favourite brand too. I’m hoping to replace the Craftex with a King industrial soon. When I bought the Craftex a couple years ago there was a supply chain backlog from COVID and there were not any 8” King jointers anywhere near me.
@ if you live near Hamilton, tegs tools is a good option to purchase king tools. I’ve been considering the kc-61fx jointer but I’m not sure if it’s good or if it would fit in my car
I actually purchased many of my King machines from Tegs. Table saw, dust collector, jointer (KC-61FX). Great people there. The KC-61FX is a great machine. I bought it in 2007 and sold it in 2022. I adjusted it once when I bought it and it was still true when I sold it. I would get the KC-65FX though because it has the spiral head in it. It should fit in your car because it’ll probably come in two boxes. One box will be the base cabinet, and the other box will be the jointer beds and cutterhead section. Go talk to Gabe and buy it!
Great video. What goam thickness are you useing. Thanks
Two layers of 1” thick foam so a total of 2”.
Nice recovery Gary! Will you be releasing build videos on that beautiful hope chest?
Thanks Micheal. Yes. That was my plan.
Ha ha you fool, you fell victim to one of the classic blunders; never go in against a Robertson, when DEATH is on the line!!!
My bad!
Thanks Gary. Great video. I make small boxes and the hinges I use are usually brass coloured steel so I pre drill and use some wax and hope hope hope that the screw doesn’t snap. I like the way you fixed your issue with the forstener bit, though for brass coloured steel I just have to dig the screw out and plug the hole with an appropriate dowel. The detail and effort you put into correcting your snapped screw speaks to the high level of craftsmanship and pride you put into your work. Well done.
Hey Roger thanks for tuning in! I totally forgot to mention that I used wax so thanks for letting the viewers know. Thank you for your kind words. It’s very appreciated.
Good tip!
If we could only get the rest of the world to adopt Robertson screws eh?!?!
@ it would be nice, though I’m oddly partial to slotted screws on brass hardware 🤷🏻♂️
They certainly look classy.
Great save, Gary! And that hope chest looks gorgeous already. Those dovetails look sweet! Enjoyed the video very much.
Thanks Kevin!
Nice build! And nice video presentation, I should add. I have become a big fan of drawbore mortise-and-tenon joints for furniture, such as bookshelves, tables, and benches. It never ceases to amaze me when I drive the pegs in and the shoulders of the joints tighten down flush and clean... so satisfying, and so rock-solid! I'm currently in process of building my own Roubo bench, so I came across your video in timely manner.
Roubos rock! I hope your build goes well!
Beautiful workmanship. I like your clear instructions. Having good tools sure help as well as having Franks instagram. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Great video Gary. Couple of questions. What are the dimensions of your top and now that you used it for awhile would you keep it the same? I'm having trouble finding the long "screws" that attach the base to the top and the barrel bolt hardware. Any chance you would be so kind to post links to where you found yours? Keep up the great work and great videos.
Thanks Mark. I bought the Benchcrafted bench makers kit. It came with the plans, hardware and the vices. I followed the dimensions in their plan. If memory serves me correctly it’s 87” x 24” x 4”. www.benchcrafted.com I hope that helps.
Hi Gary, This is a very helpful and entertaining video. I am close to installing my BC tail vise on a new bench build which is based on the Anarchist Workbench with added end caps (also walnut) and the tail vise. I pre-cut the screw mortise provision prior to lamination but after watching this realize it is not a big deal to rout it later. I will have to fine tune it to final dimension though. I picked up a few very important details from this video that will help a lot. Thank you for the excellent job creating this and the really nice workbench.
Glad you enjoyed the video and happy to hear your bench is coming along!
Hey Gary, I am in the same boat, the tables will not stay coplanar. Ordered the jointer in February 2022 arrived end of June 2022. Do you have any tips.
Unfortunately, since you’ve had it for two years, I doubt Laguna will do anything for you. When I was in constant contact with them two years ago, they spoke about a retrofit kit that would replace the defective cams and other parts that control the parallelogram mechanism. I suppose you could contact them to see if that exists or if they could send you all the parts free of charge given the fact that you’re having so much trouble. If they won’t give them to you and you have to buy them, I would honestly contact Grizzly and get the parts from them. The JX8 is the same as the Grizzly G0858. I would buy absolutely every part for both the infeed and outfeed tables. The parallelogram shafts, the cams, the grub screws, the table adjustment arms, everything. And then I would proceeded to tear apart and put it all back together with parts that you know will be fine. I honestly don’t even know if I would risk putting more Laguna parts on that jointer given their supply chain issues. That’s about my only thoughts. I wish you luck. Let everybody know how you make out because there are a lot of people that have this very problem.
I also made this follow up video. I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet. Watch Before Buying a Laguna Jointer // It Might Save You Money ua-cam.com/video/SRb7cEE0CI0/v-deo.html
Thank you very much. We have contacted them with in the 2 year guaranty window. Laguna refuses to acknowledge the sent a defective product. I saw that Frankstein video good call going with another company.
Good luck, my friend. Let me know how it turns out.
