meshtastic antenna testing
Переглядів 759 місяців тому
testing to homemade antennas for meshtastic EU868mhz not very scientific but gives me some idea and considering the stock antenna was -32 I pleased with the outcome will be trying it a mile away next that will be the best test.

just a quick test of stock and home made jpole not very scientific but you get the drift.

Is that a old tlr
Yes a 1983 Japanese import to the UK it was rough when got it
Any kind of field strength measurement would be misleading in the near field. You also need to know what the antenna radiation patter is if the antenna has gain.
As said it wasn't very scientific . Will be doing a proper test out side when better weather comes and using a sdr on the laptop 5m apart and at different mark ie 1tf 2ft 3 ft 4f and 5ft off the ground to get a pattern and field strength. Done this with my 2m/70cm last Yr.
I made one of these using romex and a short rg213 pigtail. I cut out a portion of the shield from the romex to solder the coax too and got 1.2 with out tuning.
Good to see that you are experimenting with antennas. You get the same farting in 4 or 5 bursts signal that I get here in Brighton. Any idea what it is ? It is at a slightly lower feequency than meshtastic.
I set one of my nodes to tx every 10 seconds that's what it was. Yes love playing about with antennas mainly vhf uhf especially pmr446.
what freq?
868mhz
Was the j-pole even connected to the heltec device? Saw some sma connector which seemed disconnected.
Yes , but I see what you mean I was test other antennas and that was a end off a coaxial co linear antenna .
This is exactly what I've been wanting to make, i have a vna on the way and been looking for copper wire, whoch guage copper wore did you use please? I'm quite new to making my own antennas and would appreciate the help :)
The J Pole antenna is a simplified version of the Slim Jim antenna, using the same matching stub principle. The length of the antenna is three quarter wavelength. It radiates and receives in an omni-directional pattern. This antenna design does not need a ground plane and is ideal for mounting inside PVC piping to protect it from the elements. Performs well and can be used for RX and TX purposes. It can be made from any common household wiring.. The thicker the wire, the wider the bandwidth of the antenna from its center
@Dirty-garage thank you for the information, I'm learning as much as I can from various people in different forums and UA-cam. I've recently received my Vna and I have been practicing calibrating and measuring different antennas I own to understand more. I'm hoping to learn more of the basics and get a better understanding of the science before making my first antenna. I find this all very exciting and your video has been most helpful in that journey. Thank you :)
Chose a gauge of wire that would carry at least 5 amps, better chose a 10 amp conductor. Tapes and foils may stick to the window nicely but they usually have poor performance.
Will probably try crimped female contacts that have the wire poked through. They can be slid up and down and then soldered in place.
Yes I soldered straight on to the copper this was just to show what you could use .
Touching it you will influence the s11
Yes your right but when I held it up I was only touching the coax 👍
@Dirty-garage Ok but it can still because of currents in the cable. Try to put on a low loss material like polystyrene.
@sz-zr6rn when it's hanging up the swr is fine you are right it will change the reading . Been out today on the mendip hills here in Somerset worked better than my co linear 70km sofar
Hi this measurement is for EU868 mhz
I made a 915mhz j pole with copper tape. I couldn’t get the swr lower than 4:1. I used a calculator to make the antenna. I’ll look closing at your measurements and try with wire
does anyone want to sell this please?
Just found your channel while looking for videos of Z250A. I will be following with interest as my own bike is at a similar stage but trying to source a pair of carb diaphragms. Looking forward to many more episodes. 👍
hello the AJS250csr was that bought from a chap in Aston Tirrold about 30 year ago_? Reply

Hey what year is that?
Hi I ended up buying this same bike from someone else, it does not run very well though, it sounds fine here. How long had you had it ?and any information please that could help me as the engine struggles to run for me Thanks Paul
Hi Paul Did it have electronic ignition when you had it? I'm looking at buying it now 😹
