Wasn't Balok trying to kill everyone on the Enterprise? The buoy was configured to kill anything that came near it. So Balok was trying to kill everyone .. but suddenly at the end, all is forgiven and let's all drink Tranya?
You guys should quickly watch Yesterday's Enterprise before reviewing part II of Unification. It's fairly important and a good watch!
Hey guys, love the podcast. The timing of finding this is perfect, as I just recently started rewatching the series for the umpeenth time. Looking forward to listening to your podcasts as I rewatch TOS.
Love this episode. Very good story. good podcast. I wondered why there was only 53% of Franklin. Maybe they needed a larger buffer...capacity is 2 humans or one Mr Scott(explains the 53%- maybe thats the room left over) its not often an episode can mean two different things to you. when it premiered back in the day I was Laforge at work...(IT) able to fix anything..now Im Mr Scott. All the experience in the world but its obsolete. Invaluable if working on 40 year old equipment but almost useless on new technology. Scotty telling everyone(blah-blah---since your grandfather was in diapers) sounds familiar since must of the people I work with could be my kids or even grandkids. It looked like the Genolan left the "Shmitter Shmear" (say that three times) on the Dyson sphere. And about the drinking episode I could picture Chapel sitting drinking a waterglass of whiskey with Mbenga bitching about mccoy. "That damn guy..solves the plague that wiped out a planet in 40 minutes...get hit with a rock..booom your dead"
I thought Bob Saget on Americas funniest home videos jokes were the worst, then Dan comes along...
Whom could possibly mistake Data for a robot?
Whoop-dee-doo!!!
Good to have you guys back! Just a bit of info, there is a two-part episode in season 4 of Enterprise where we learn why Klingons lost their ridges, and whom is responsible. I'd say it's a good watch, except that you really need to watch the three episode arc about the Augments that comes earlier in that season. It's complicated.
Woo-hoo!!! 😁
Good conversation, but no video of the actual episode or even of you guys???
Brain and brain. Whom is brain? (sorry)
The woman from space seed MacGyver, Kirk named her to the mission. She didn’t just show up.
It’s possible that William Shatner is a great director. But we’ll never know. No one is polishing this turd. If Season 3 were a movie, it would be this. The plot, the dialogue, the effects (they can hardly be called ‘special’) all made this the worst Trek in recorded history. It’s a testament to your ability to make even the worst episodes funny that allowed me to enjoy this review.
I cannot think of any redeeming quality of this film, except for the fact that you two have given it an enjoyable, humorous review. I feel the pain of anyone whom had to watch this more than once.
To sum up, this movie belongs in the Schmitter!
In the Wizard of Oz, when they are in the field of poppies and they lay down to take a nap and then it starts snowing? The snow was just asbestos.
Any leader in any realm is responsible for all of the crew people under their command. There does not need to be anything romantic or sexual between the captain and the Yeoman. The Yeoman is likely very young as well, Uhura, being a lieutenant, has more time and experience to handle herself in a difficult situation. Kirk also knows Uhura very well, and knows better what she might do in the situation
Just a nudge, but the actual title is The Voyage Home.
Thanks for this! I've updated the title. Thanks for getting to this before the English professor!
@@damnitjimpodcast No problem. I just happened to notice it in my feed. I can't imagine whom would want to correct your grammar anyway. 🤣
Charles Napier was also in the Deep Space Nine episode "Little Green Men". Star Trek's explanation for the 1947 Roswell Incident! In which he play the fictional "General Rex Denning."
This had to be your most utterly hilarious TOS review ever!
Thanks for letting us know, and please keep listening!
@@damnitjimpodcast oh I will! You guys make being a part of Trek fandom loads of fun! Which is the way it should be.
God you guys are hilarious!!
We like to think so!
One of you mentioned that the two death scenes didn't really have any emotional impact. I actually disagree with you. I think David's murder was gruesome - even though we actually didn't see as much as we thought of it - and the savage rapidity of it made it seem all the more brutal (with no big speech.) There was something very real and raw about it - in part because it wasn't overly melodramatic. As for the death of the Enterprise, I found that to be profoundly moving - and every Star Trek I've ever talked to feels the same. I'm not sure what could have been done to make it any sadder than it already was.
Thanks for your comments! We love hearing from all of our listeners.
I watched this video a few hours ago. I'm back just to let you know that I STILL have "Let's Hear It for the Boy" playing in my head. 🤬
Sorry about that! We also can't get rid of that song!
Wonderful reaction today! I loved the film's callback to Let That Be Your Last Battlefield with the self-destruct sequence. WOW! Chekov was certainly (*ahem*) "pretty in pink" in this film! Mark Lenard was a major highlight of this movie. Nichelle Nichols shines with the very little time she was allotted. Also, some sympathetic kudos to Robin Curtis for doing her best to attempt the totally thankless task of replacing beloved fan favorite Kristie Alley. TODAY'S FUN FACT: The screams of young adult Spock were performed by voice-over artist Frank Welker, aka Freddy from Scooby-Doo! I look forward to your future reactions. Have a wonderful week in the meantime! ❤
Thanks for your comments and keep listening!
5. paradise syndrome 4. enterprise incident 3. Elaan of troyuis , 2 Spectre of the gun, 1. all our yesterdays. honorable mention .Tholian web. the worst?..the rest. I will never understand it. decent story ideas that just didnt last 48 minutes...some could have been 2 parters..good story for 35 minutes then OH DAMN..cram everything into the last 13 minutes. could have been SO much more with alittle $$$. Great job on the three season podcast . I go back and re-listen to them on the way to work. Herbert Schmitter lives on!!!
Captain Von Gelder. why not they re-used everything else. why not people. Mr Atoz as a roman slave. never saw shmitter again though.
On a rewatch of this episode, I was actually concerned that Sulu was taking Captain Tracy away to beam up to the ship immediately. Since the Enterprise didn't suffer a plague, I guess they went off to a bar for a few hours to get immunized.
yes to a enterprise takeover. commanding Enterprise yes to 61. the chop count would have been good. I had always assumed that the cancellation came before filming this bomb and it was terrible on purpose. the fact that Shat was going to direct the next one was surprising because how bad could it have been after what we subjected to in season three? Onto the Movies.
should have ended the series with this one. I agree with you guys it was the highlight of season 3. Zarabeth's outfit was alittle odd given the subzero conditions. interesting ideas about the "preparation" from Mr Atoz. (A to Z) great name for a librarian. great job guys. if a time machine were invented I go back and stop them from broadcasting the turnabout intruder. the POS from TOS.
I think you guys missed out by not making the discount code for your sponsor, 'Schmitter.'
MY VOTE: The Prime Directive forbids interference with the natural development of an alien culture. So, in my opinion, no violation of the Prime Directive. However, Zarabeth may have given birth to Spock's child. That child may have grown up and left the frozen wasteland, heading south (or north), eventually hooking up with the ancient goat-like inhabitants of Sarpeidon, thus giving rise to the humanoid population that, 5,000 years later, would disappear into their planet's past, wreaking havoc on their history and the development of their culture.
I think he’s a supreme being and the comments he made at the end to me was more poignant because he treated it as it was treating time travel as triviality and that pissed Kirk off even more and gives his let’s get the hell outta here even more gravitates. Even though it a great story I though the thinking was to linear 1) they could have explained to her she’s right but has to wait after the 50’s but that would be consider violating the Prime directive ,2) they could have taken her with them since she wasn’t gonna have an contributions after 1930, there was a series of books that dealt with the ramifications of the failure of saving Ms Keeler.
AWFUL EPISODE, BUT WONDERFUL REACTION! We're nearing the end, so the tide of Schmitter wastewater is rising! TODAY'S FUN FACT: Gene Roddenberry wrote the teaser & the first act only, then promptly gave up & handed off the script to Arthur Heinmann to finish rhe episode. I don't blame Hienmann for this mess of a script, I blame lazy Roddenberry for making the mess in first place! MORE MONEY SAVING MALARKEY: Col. Green is wearing Khan's old uniform from Space Seed! BTW: In the military, punctuality is paramount, so why is McCoy & Scott left ghosted, waiting in the briefing room for THREE HOURS? If there was any doubt that Roddenberry wasn't minding the store anymore, this episode & the upcoming final episode remove all doubts! Even though I plan to see this podcast to the end, I will miss you guys. You two are the best! ❤️
I curse the inventor of two-faced tape.
at the end of the episode after the shuttlecraft landed and Herburt and company beamed down...if the grass and plants and fruit and so forth are covered in acid and burn skin.....WHY did they get everyone out of the shuttlecraft? they werent wearing shoes...burn them alittle more? damn Herbert.
very good point!!
would have made a better episode if the distruptor took Plasus over the rail.
Great replay! Hilarious and enjoyed it the second time around!
Requiem for Lambchop! 😂😂😂
Speaking of Methuselah and nicknames - what would the nickname for that be? Meth? No, that’s no good….
Love it!
As always, an enjoyable reaction! No fun facts this time, just a question: In What Are Little Girls Made of?, Kirk has absolutely no moral compunctions about gaslighting Andrea the android into having a love-happy meltdown, leading to her eventual demise. Yet, Kirk unconditionally accepts Rayna as a sentient life form and fights for both her freedom and her love. Both Rayna and Andrea were equally as attractive as each other, so why is Rayna sentient and Andrea isn't? Does Kirk prefer blondes? Just wondering. Whether you continue with Star Trek: The Animated Series, the 1960's Batman television series, or another show, I look forward to your future endeavors.
P r o m o s m
This is the best of Trek. And one of the best story’s in all of Sci-fi utilizing time travel. Of all the women in Kirk’s soap opera romances, I believe he truly loved Edith. Really enjoy the podcast, and hanging out with you guys. Have you considered reviewing/satirizing the TOS movies? They would most likely require multiple episodes to cover. Giving us more time with you.
Should have brought Edith into the future. She had visions of the future of how it could be. It would have been as John Colicos said "Glorious". In the movie generations when Picard went to visit Kirk in the nexus he could have been there with Edith. that would have been something..Kirk standing there with Picard and edith comes down the stairs....
HERE ARE MY FUN FACTS FOR THE WEEK: This episode was written by Shari Lewis & her husband, Jeremy Thatcher, originally with the intention of Shari playing the part of Mira Romaine in the episode. By the time the episode was produced, Shari had a commitment in Las Vegas and was unavailable. Also, another sign that the end was very near is that this episode suffers from budget cuts and 90% of the score was lifted from Where No Man Has Gone Before. A wonderful reaction to a mediocre episode. Have a wonderful weekend! ❤
First episode I ever saw. I personally think it was one of the better episodes in season 3. Had all the qualities of a season one-two episode...redshirt transporter bites it.(can just picture the guy.."4 years in the academy for what..out here in the butt end of space sitting around waiting to beam someone down when everyone already knows how to use it..nice red shirt though..hey who are you..? crap I'm dead." Too bad they decided the Kalandons were an extinct species. they had some interesting technology and in true star trek fashion they leave it behind.
Vaal being fed, I belive he runs on a Mr. Fusion.
Good episode & great reaction today! TODAY'S FUN FACTS: 1) Kirk's remark "If I wanted a Russian history lesson, I would've brought Mr. Chekov along" was a reference to the fact that Sulu's part was originally written for Chekov, who was in a play with Jackie Coogan for a few weeks at the time. 2) John Meredith Lucas, who rewrote DC Fontana's script, really missed the humor that made Star Trek great, which was removed this season by Roddenberry & Freiberger, sneaked in some hilarious exchanges between Spock & Scott. Since Roddenberry was away writing & producing Pretty Maids All in a Row & Freiberger had pretty much given up by this point, he was able to sneak the humor in. Take care & see you soon! PS: Dan & Dana, I'm for you! (LOL!) 😅
Why didnt Gideon just ask for ships? ship people off to another planet. Awful episode..serious budget cut episode. no sets outside of the ship..no cast more than a day or two of filming..enough just cancel it already.
Spock's line about women's fear is as true as Nomads description of a female. Sorry guys.
THIS WEEK'S FUN FACT: This episode was a rewrite of an unproduced first season script, "A Portrait in Black & White," written by Barry Trivers & Gene L. Coon. The script was rewritten by Oliver Crawford, who, along with Margaret Armen, also helped rewrite David Gerrold's "The Cloud Minders." Just like in that script, too many cooks spoiling the broth! Great reaction today. I can't wait for your final reactions while dreading the end at the same time! Parting is such sweet sorrow! ❤
It's "Whom" not "Who". "Whom Gods Destroy." Speaking as a fan and as an English professor, I give you a failing mark (thumbs down) for that error. Messing up a quote or a title WHEN IT'S RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU is an egregious error.
Actually, it was a typo. Thanks though for pointing it out. And thanks for being a fan of the podcast!
