AW Here! Welcome to my channel! Here I look at anything related to gold and silver. Most items are from garage-sales, thrift stores and pawn shops. In some cases I do meet people who have unwanted precious metals so deal could be from there too. Ask me any questions, I will do what I can to provide best answers. My goal is to find high in purity gold and silver items. Most of the items I keep as investments and some for personal use, from time to time I will sell some of them, so if you do see something that you like very much, I could sell it to you for the right market price. If you find yourself confused about the process I use on my channel. Ask! If you have a working correction. Share! I do welcome any comments and suggestions for any of the videos here. If you have something that is high purity gold or silver I would be happy to make you a reasonable market offer for your unwanted items. Don't be a stranger, reach out! AND Thanks for being part of my journey. :-)

@ThriftingWealth This very unique spoon was found at the thrift store, the reason for pick up was the five hallmarks that I noticed on the spoon, I did have my doubts, if this is silver, or not, so dusting was something that I was looking forward to.

Finger nails are gruesome, and music is depressing, the older women say a man must keep clean, especially his finger and toe nails
LOL, sounds very good, I'll take that under consideration once I will turn 98 yo.
oh yes, nice one, well I know that no everyone is at your level so thanks for sharing.
It's Dutch silver! Probably 1880
The ring is only 8k, you see when you put 10k acid it started to vanish the line
yes its possible
I have williams 1880 spoon ,and they said its pure silver
Hi. Who are they?
Its so dull, clearly not gold
Yes. Exactly

That is basically a stone that is very very hard so you can scratch metal against it.

Yes I think so too, thanks
Lol that's a joke of a scratch
Oh. Why is that.
@@ThriftingWealth it's barely there and yes I can see the acid turning white for whatever little is there
Wm. [William] A. Rogers is an American company that manufactured silverplate almost exclusively. American companies are going to have a stamp on the back that says "sterling" or "925" if it's sterling silver. If it doesn't say sterling or 925, it isn't sterling. It's possible that an item manufactured before the Civil War (pre 1861) may not bear a sterling mark, but that's an extremely rare circumstance. Very little pre-Civil War sterling still exists and the chances of finding a piece floating around is infinitesimally small. Just to mention, many companies included the word "silver" in their name; seeing an item with the word silver stamped on it doesn't mean that the item is sterling. Many people make that mistake.
This is not solid silver but just some silver on the external side.

Yes I think it was.

do you have a question?
Yotengo uno18k
Yes I think so
They're called "jelly spoons". Part of the late 19th century trend for specialized table silver. I don't think they served jelly any better than an ordinary spoon but if you were going to set a fashionable table, you had to have some.
very true, they are great especially if they are cleaned and polished very nicely
Ya yo lo comprobé eso pensaba q era d plata pero al fin del caso no era nada
Yes, exactly in order for this to be valuable. It needs to be solid silver and unfortunately it is not.
Olle note yeve d eso por fuera das plata tienes q darle lima por yo tengo muchas aqi en mi casitas y das pura plata jjjjj así no darles lima jjjjj😂
That's very interesting, so what exactly is your approach?
I have a soup ladle that says “WM.A. Rogers Nickel Silver”
Nickel silver is a metal alloy that is made of copper, zinc, and nickel. No silver. However, it can be polished to a beautiful shine. Wm. A. Rogers manufactured some nickel silver flatware; you might be able to put together a set of flatware if you wish. It may take some hunting, however. They didn't manufacture much in that line, but since it's very durable and useless for silver smelting, it still exists. I just saw a set of iced tea spoons that tempts me.
So value wise, it's not much money, right?

Ty for the video..a women approached me today at Goodwill with 2 gold pieces marked 18K and wanted 200$..luckily I had no cash to fall for her scam
That is truly lucky, in many cases they will not even ask for the full price of gold maybe 50 to 70% so that's how you know it's definitely a scam
Ahhh yes, everyone new to silver plate will stumble on one of these and think it's 800 pure. WM Rogers 800 is very common. As the other commentor mentioned, green is copper not silver. I like that you saw the copper and thought silver, but only on something with 800 silver, if its 20% copper, you still might see some green on it, but that was a bit too much green for my liking.
That sounds great, thanks for letting me know, I'm always hunting for Sterling if I can, or something pure, I do have a several pieces actually in the videos which are hundred percent silver and they are silverware
@@ThriftingWealthI've looked through your channel and saw the items you test, and respectfully, unless you already know before hand that they're plated and still tested them to make the video, i think you waste your time testing pieces you can easily look up by their names. I think you need to study up on makers and read forums and databases and it'll help you to pass on things that you should, if your goal is only to find real silver.
Yes true, for me it was lots of time wasted as I was learning, at some point I just decided since I'm spending the time anyways why not make videos as I'm learning and this how I started to do it, but most video are filmed when I have time to do it as also busy with other things. I plan to post more as I have time to do it, it's hard to fine the time it take a lot to make one video.
@@ThriftingWealth that's very similar to my channel in fact, I started making videos not knowing very much, now i can almost instantly tell silver from plated but I also focus on silver plated and when that is valuable.
I bought one of these off a non English girl at a petrol station. She wanted a £10 for petrol. This was 10 years ago or more, when the buy your gold envelopes where coming through the post. So I didn’t have £10. But feeling sorry for her I offered £5 which I kept in back of phone for emergency. It was like yours but bigger and heavier, can’t remember exact weight but if real would be worth £300 I later discovered. Gave it to wife to take to stall in town that buys gold. Verdict - fake. So a little jewellers had just opened out of town, so for a laugh I took it on Saturday. Saw the wife. She weighed it and offered me £150. But didn’t have any money at the time, could I come back when her husband was there. So the next Saturday I went in, very nervous, bloke weighed it, said ok, gave me £150.
Could have been a good deal if it would be real
Hello good day' I hope you read this I have vintage Roger nickel silver hope you see too
Very nice! Do you collect it?
YELLOW GOLD!!! @o@
Yes exactly. People are trying. Lol 😆 Lots of gold like that. Can be found every day. I will be posting more soon.
picked up a 1634 London silver Seal top spoon at a thrift store for $5. Thrift stores are probably the best place to find rare spoons at a cheap price.
Yes exactly, I would say that most of my cutlery is from them and yes sometimes I find amazing and rare pieces. Most stores don't know what to look for, don't know the costs and or how rare it is so I would say it's the best and easy way to hunt and I would put a garage sale in the second place. PS. Thanks for sharing.
sir gd day for you ihave one kind of spoon iwant to send a picture for you but idont know how.the sign is 18-8.
hi, based on what I know 18-8 stands for stainless steel
Good Find !
Thanks 👍
Awesome video. I like how you mentioned Chinese 24kt 999 gold. Lots of ignorant people think just because the gold is so shiny and yellow that it is fake. They’ve just never seen pure gold refined like that
Hi, yes that is correct. Most people in NA are going for the 14k some will be good for 18k and very few will have 20k+, based on what I have seen most printed from Asia and China will go for a minimum of 18k+ but best will be considered as 20k+ and 22k+ so yeah.
Its brass
Yes, it is very well could be.
Hello Its for sale ?
Not at this time, sorry
Thanks for your simple and short presentation about testing gold! U kept is short and succinct . Good job!

Hey. Do you have a question?
Meron po ako tatlong peraso.. theodoro roosevelt
Hi. WOW theodoro roosevelt. Very nice. Congratulations on your find.
I have community spoon with engrave flower on handle .
Hi. Yes that's probably silver plated. Unless you have other marks on it indicating it's silver
What does 18kgt means?
Hi., 18k stands for the gold purity used on the product but gt I'm not 100% sure, G could be for gold and P i'm not sure. I have seen GP and that would stand for the gold plated.
How much silver sandok
I think that this ladle would be $100.00 -$300.00 or more based on the brand if this was made if silver purity 90+ but in this case this is just a silver plated and I think it will be $3.00 - $5.00 on the hot market day based on the who is looking collector or user, LOL, hope this helps!
Meron po sana Ako e bibinta sayu
It's disgusting they get you in the purity rate like that..marked as 750 and it's really,70% or (insert whatever false amount)..😤.
Yes! Exactly right, we see people get way more "inventive" these days to steal money from other people and this is just one more way, but I'm sure they (who are stealing) have done this for generations and thousands of years, it's just now we have the "know how" and the tools to know more.
I am from goa and have a tea spoon on which it’s written M & W unplated is it of silver? Because internet says unplated can be silver Sometimes, please help me out.
Hi. It's possible. But how old is it?
@@ThriftingWealth I don't know it was of my greatgrand father.
well, in that case I would have it tested and by any marks it has on it, do you know how its marked?
Facebook? İnstagram? Whatsaup?
Do you mean if I have other platforms?
Sir tunay po bayan kasi mayroon ako niyan 4pcs
Real. Nice. Congrats on that.
Hi can I ask a Question , I know there is a lot going on with the American silver that is not being told.
sir moron wm.A Rogers nickel silver saan to mabinta sir?@@Ac3230753
I have a fountain pen whose nib is 18 KGP gold, i wanna ask is, 18 kgp gold really expensive or if not expensive, is it the type of the thing one should protect.
If it said 18k gp this is gold plated and not a solid gold. If it said 18k without gp this would be solid gold it's not a fake I have two marked 18k, small and large and I paid over 1400 USD for both.
will make a video about both of them and will do so more testing lol.
