At 0:50, and seemingly as theme of this whole video, Illinois Sports Talk, makes the great point that Illinois scorers MUST have a plan B for how to score. I totally agree, and I think Brad Underwood does too, but he rarely talks about this issue publicly. Remember when Coleman Hawkins shot relatively poorly at the start of last season (partly due to back issues)? This might have occurred more on away games, since it is hard to have this problem in cupcake games on our home court. But Underwood did do the right think from the bench. He waved (or gestured) CH toward the basket. And CH drove more after that and got a couple confidence baskets (taking advantage of his 6'10" size on the perimeter and quickness that was better than some other heavier bigs). Underwood shared this same suggestion with Mathew Mayer, when he had a cool streak from the 3-pt line two seasons ago. MM actually listened sometimes, and it worked pretty well for him (even at 6'9") to drive to closer to the rim for lay-up, dunks or pull-up shots off the board and over true bigs. Yes, I'm concerned that we won't get tested this way until that Alabama game, and it will likely end up like the Ole miss game. I hope people see your video and emphasize this feedback at practice and in in remaining home game against Oakland. Like you, I want to see the Illini try harder to get the rim (guys like KJ, KB, WR, TW, and BH) or set up in the post for bigs like TI and MJ. Yeah, I know the perimeter guys can often score more with 3s, but we absolutely need backup scoring options when the 3s aren't dropping (especially on the road) and to keep defenders honest (especially with back cuts or shot fakes and blowing by them with drives). It looks to me like Illinois has not worked on this enough yet, and it will likely become painfully clear in the Bama game in Birmingham. We need to improve this before then!

I no longer trust Bret in winning must win games like this one. This was a must win game if we wanted to get a 10 win season. This exact same shit happened in 2022 when we had a must win game vs Purdue that would decide who won the west.

I was at this game. It truly was a shame that we lost. Whenever we get excited about Illinois sports it always just falls downhill immediately. That’s why Illinois athletics are cursed!

I was not expecting us to win at all. The first half was still really, really bad. Minnesota, MSU, Rutgers, and Northwestern left on the schedule. They can still finish with 9 or 10 wins and go to a solid bowl game. Illinois will be fine.

Overall a very sloppy game from both teams. You had Jalon Daniels (the senior) throw 3 interceptions with one of them being a pick 6. You had Illinois almost muffing a punt and Aidan laugherly dropping the ball which would’ve been a TD. Overall I’m still glad we won but I don’t think we will get away with against most of the teams on our remaining schedule

That year they played Alabama in the playoff was comical. The look on their faces on the sideline was, “we ain’t playin Navy today!”

Hand picked schedule against the armed forces schools, Boston college, Stanford, and the 4 worst teams in the worst power 5 conference (ACC) every year. Took care of business. Altmyer looked confident and slung the ball to Bryant and Elzy all night, and he's mobile, so can run the ball himself if he needs to. Feagin looks like a good RB1 aside from that, while you can go back and forth between Laughery and McCray as well. Defense showed up and forced a bunch of turnovers, which is great. Kansas is next, and that game next Saturday will unveil the true identity of this team. For now, GO ILLINI! p.s., Opinion on the cannon?
