Rust Removal and Mitigation on the Escort Wagon! 😔
The rust situation on my 1995 Ford Escort wagon has been accelerating to the point of getting way out of hand over the last year or two. The time has come to clean it up, slow it down, and start forming a plan for replacing some metal on the car in the future.

Blazer's First Oil Change After Being Run Nearly Dry!
Переглядів 444Рік тому
Unknown to me, because I was too foolish to look, my 1997 Chevy Blazer was down to about a quart of oil remaining in it when it came home. To my complete shock, it still ran excellent and made amazing oil pressure. I filled it up, spun a new filter on, and walked away... What does it look like after a few hours of run time? Not. Good. 😆 Stuff Links (Affiliated; I earn a small commission on thes...

    Where can I get a compressor motor and regulator gauges for this exact compressor?

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife 14 годин тому

      I just added links for the motor and the pressure switch (you didn't ask, but...) to the description. The regulator and gauges are so generic that it would be difficult to identify what exactly they are. Anything good for up to 150psi should be about comparable to what it came with. It's nothing fancy.

      The cutoff wheel worked. The next step of that would be to take a sawsall or hack saw and slit the stub remaining on the interior and chisel the pieces out. I cannot emphasize enough how much time and effort that would have saved me if I had just done it from the start. I think a bottle of MAPP gas is about the same price as a replacement bar. That said, with as rusty as this hitch is, none of it is fit for use any longer. If yours is so bad that the usual things don't work, you should probably consider replacing the entire hitch.

      It works exactly opposite of that. You can have too little available, but never too much. The hardware takes what it needs. It's sort of like the amount of air in a room. I think you did not use the ratcheting bender quite correctly. I watched my brother doing an HVAC installation and he makes most of the bend angle and then feeds the pipe a bit further through the tool and then runs the bend tool again. This increases the bend radius a little but allowed bend angles greater than 90 degrees and prevents any kinking of the line. Hope this helps.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife Місяць тому

      It's entirely possible, and probable, that I didn't use the tool correctly, but that isn't HVAC tube in the video. It's not "copper", despite how it looks, and I don't think it has the same temper and wall thickness either. So, I wouldn't say the nicop line I used is "hard" to work with, but it's not as forgiving as some of the dead-soft copper I've seen used for HVAC so it's not really fair to compare them. The bending springs I ended up using are intended for that type of tube, which is why they gave me a bit of trouble of this harder stuff. I would also imagine most HVAC guys could do a better job than I did no matter what tube it was. 😂

      I'd be willing to bet it's dealer-only and discontinued a long time ago. If you absolutely want the factory part, a junkyard would be your best bet. That said... I don't think there is anything special about it. You should be able to get something pretty close from your local hardware store, or McMaster-Carr, and adjust it to fit properly.

    Max, you lost me on the 21 gallon oil-less compressor. I’ve had one for five years and it’s losing compression on the tool end. For a 90 psi tool I lose about half of my compression within. 30 seconds. The tank pressure seems to hold. I put all new fittings and hoses on the entire compressor and sadly same result. I think the workaround makes sense but your explanation lost me half way in. It’s not so much the parts and plumbing issue, but instead it’s the WHERE of what must be changed. I thought you were saying that I just had to flip flop the outbound air fitting with the brass 3/4” bolt which is under the regulator. Where am I relocating what on the tool side?

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife 2 місяці тому

      Keep in mind I don't own this compressor and have never actually seen one. A viewer asked for help and I did the best I could. I've never tried it, but... I don't _think_ HDMI supports daisy-chaining and this Dell is just a touch too old to have Thunderbolt support. Plus, the screens you're seeing are cheap TVs, not monitors, and have no provision to output another signal to pass along. These days I think I'd just suggest a really cheap GPU like a GT 1030 or something for running multiple screens on a machine like this. At the time of recording (peak supply chain shortages), even those cards weren't "cheap".

      @@TheBrokenLife ahhh I gotcha. I am upgrading an Inspiron 3880 rn hahah so I’ve seen all the vids. I’m debating throwing in a spare AMD FirePro w2100 I’m not using. I was hoping to be able to throw a second 3.5 HDD and run as my nas, but probably just going to give to my sister to take to college. Or might just make a dedicated Plex server lol, but live the Inspiron vids. I’ll try daisy chaining it tn, but I think it’s on the monitor end if it’s capable or not

      @@ca8482 FWIW, the 3880 is 1 HDMI version too old to support HDR, so, if you toss a "modern" GPU in it you gain that functionality as well.

    Thank you for your helpful video. I just changed the pressure switch on a different Central Pneumatics (Harbor Freight) Air compressor. It was a different model (item 95498, 2 HP, $ Gallon), but your video was still quite helpful. The pointer to the Oately pipe dope was also helpful. These pressure switches also must fail just by age and the rubber degrading. I went to use my compressor after it had been sitting for at least a year. It worked fine when put away, but just leaked air when I went to use it. It now works again after replacing this switch and with the help from your video. This switch also serves as a manifold, and at least on my compressor it seems the switch was put in and everything else added around it. I had to completely disassemble the compressor and reassemble with the new switch. A rubber diaphragm just seems like s poor design. I spring loaded piston would likely work forever without failure.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife 2 місяці тому

      You're very welcome! Frustratingly, the rubber diaphragm design has been around forever and was quite robust in years gone by. I have a compressor in the family that is from the 1950s and I'd be surprised if it doesn't still have its original switch. We're dealing with the diminishing quality of modern manufacturing... but, we're also getting it really, really cheap. So...

      You will for sure need an upgraded PSU for that and you will find that video in the playlist that is linked in the description. I have an RTX 4060 in mine at the moment and it's 226mm long by 2.2 slots high. It _just_ fits and I don't run hard enough for cooling to be an issue. If you want to game with something, you should probably upgrade cases (also a video in the playlist).

Although your voice is clear, i.e., easy to understand, I do wish the Californian Valley Girl inflection at the end of 95% of every sentence wasn't there. It makes every sentence sound like you're asking a question. Go back and listen to it. I've read every comment to date and no one else has mentioned to date but I did see you've stated multiple times that this is a one of you top paying videos so I guess others don't find it annoying.
