Diving for Lobster - with mates this time
Loss me at 700 😮
If you are referring to price, they are just over $800 - not cheap. there are cheaper blankets on the market but how do they perform. I would love to do a blanket comparison but I only have 1 😂
Sick vid ya dawg good mixed bag action keep the vids coming ya stingray 🤣🤣
Haha thanks mate, no stingrays in this vid,,,, this time 😂
Thanks for sharing. Have been eyeing of the Allspark maexon panels for a few years now. Wish I'd bought one 2 years ago when they were much cheaper. I prefer fixed panels but would like a portable unit for those times when the trailer is parked in the shade. Cheers
No probs mate and yes fixed panels are always better performance wise. It’s definitely one of the more expensive blankets on the market, I would like to review a few others like the itech world 300w as a comparison but I don’t need to buy any more blankets 😂
@@Oceanic_AdventuresYes I can understand the lack of motivation for spending more $ on blankets. I've had a mate's itech 300w blanket since summer which I borrowed as backup for the holidays. Wish I could give you feedback but It's still sitting in the trailer, never used, because my fixed panels sufficed throughout January.
@@cyclemoto8744 yes sounds familiar, the DCdc charger I have in my car fully recharges the battery in a couple of hours and I have 600w on the caravan roof. The blanket is supplemental most of the time
Fun stuff mate, few nice fish mixed in there 🙂
Thanks mate!
love this keep it up
Thanks Hoops 👍
Love the KGs dawg you could of at least kept a sambo for craybait for me ya stingray 🤣🤣
Next time Jono, I will send it up via Aus Post 😃
Good variety of fish, what area was most of this fishing done?
Thanks Craig, yes targeting as many eligible species as possible for the competition, fishing out of Hillary’s WA
Tough night at the office!
Morning Trev
U boys r crazy... Wouldn't expect anything else from u and Steve. Keep it up Justin
Haha this was all Steve’s idea 🤣🤣
Awesome video mate, and a good feed there, pan fry them awesome fish burger mate.
Thanks a lot Nicko! Yep you can’t go wrong with some fresh tailor
Hey champ really like your channel especially surf fishing . You fish with quality Ross and reel.
Thanks Paul 👍
Good feed there bud
Thanks Podge, I made a nice green curry with the fish from that last session
I even got a mention 🤣🤣🤣 sick vid ya stingray
Haha thanks for the support
How water proof is this panel say if it is left out overnight and it rains?
It doesn’t have an IP rating, I think it would be ok in light rain but it’s not recommended. Best bet would be to check with off road living who sell these blankets
@@Oceanic_Adventures They say IP68, but dry the canvas
@@kombikid01thanks for finding out, would make sense, I have since had this one in some light rain and it was fine
Wonderfull guys. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So how is it judged? Heaviest single cray? Heaviest bag of 8? ??
Hi Darren, yes biggest individual cray and heaviest bag of 8
It’s cool how you catch the lobsters. 🦞
Thanks, it’s great fun
I purchased the 135w version with the 10amp MPPT that was it with on the deal. I was getting a max 10amps and a max of 128w. Out of 135w panel. Can’t complain about that!! Average was 8amps and 110w throughout the day. Very happy and would purchase again
Awesome, Yep that’s a good result, I have just been using mine through the Easter hols - it’s working well
Yay😅 I love❤ western australia. Sooo much variety in landscapes.
I totally agree!

Oh my wow ivd got two of these boxes on my ute and I just used self tapping screws straight up from Inside the tool box onto them rails under the tray 1-2 mins was done stuff this way is rubbish 🤣🤣
Screws will work short term if you don’t put much weight in them and stay on the bitumen. I do far too many corrugations for that to be an option for me. Also note this is the OEM instruction
Good catch, what sort of depth are you getting the bluefin in?
Reliably usually 35-40m off Hillary’s, they are also at the back of the 3 mile at the moment too in 18m
@@Oceanic_Adventures cheers for the feedback
Good work mate. Especially landing all that fish alone with so many rods out. I was worried for a bit there 😅
Thanks haha no risk no reward 😂
is it waterproof. can it be accidently left in the rain. cheers
Hi Emily, I just had a look on the off road living website and it doesn’t mention an IP rating. I suggest clarifying with them but it seems like it should be ok to handle rain, there are no exposed parts
They say IP68, but dry the canvas
@@kombikid01 thanks for finding out, it would make sense for most blankets I think
Lucky you,in South Africa we have not been allowed to eat abalone for many many years!
Sorry to hear that mate, we are heavily restricted here now but yes I’m glad we can still do it. Unfortunately with rising sea temperatures being abalones nemesis this won’t be for ever
You would not have to ream if you used a threaded rod, locknut and locktite for good measure. Drill the holes dead centre in the channel, insert and fix the studs. Make up a template of the top of the box with some cardboard or styrofoam and press up onto the studs to get the indent location. Take the template and use it to drill your holes through the top of the box (dont forget to mark the template something like back and front to match how the toolbox is facing).
Hi Greg, thanks for the comment, that was something I considered but ultimately doesn’t work. With the loctite on what will be the top nut the rod spins when it’s tightened up to full tension lifting the bottom nut with it. The bolt arrangement really can’t spin at all once it hits its limit. Noting the method seen here was the instruction from the manufacturer and I looked for a simpler alternative but ultimately it is the best way and aside from welding is relatively corrugation proof
Agreed, threaded rod is the best way.
They looked scrumdiddlyumptious
😂 they sure were 👍
Fillets not abalone
I think auto- correct did you a disservice there 🤓 It’s fillets and abalone 😀
Nice work Justin. Good to see you get out with the young lad and gave it a crack
Thanks Matty, he’s keen for more
Keep the gasmate ya stingray😂😂
It can’t handle the Midwest winds ya Bream
just wondering what part of perth this is ? Great video
Thanks Cam! I won’t disclose exactly where as good spots take a lot of searching However basically every offshore reef NOR holds crays it just depends how far you want to swim to find them vs a boat dive
Good work Justin
My vehicle has a bracket holding the mudgard in place. Any idea how to deal with that please? thanks for a useful video!
Hi Stephen, I think I know the type of bracket you mean but it’s hard to say without seeing it, based on what I think you have here’s what I would do: 1. Remove bracket and install tool box 2. Drill a hole into the tool box that lines up with hole in mudguard ( you may need to remove the wheel for access 3. Using a suitable length bolt with a nut on the tool box side of mudguard then on both sides when it enters the toolbox (also use washers) Let me know if that makes sense?
thanks yes that makes sense. the other possibility that I will check is whether I can move the steel bracket over to the inside edge of the mudguard. It wont be as solid but the brackets are quite heavy steel. Without putting a tape measure on it yet, it looks like there might be enough room on the outside of the bracket for the box. In some ways I am reluctant to connect the mudguard to the box because if I get the mudguard caught up somehow off road, and it is connected to box there is no 'give' except damage to the box. are those serrated edge nuts likely to get loose with offroad activity, I wonder? thanks so much for the reply. After watching the video again, I'm thinking that a cardboard template might be good way to mark out the holes both on the c-sectins and also on the box, to have them all line up. I also saw some other bolts the other day, called hammer heads that would not spin when tightened because they would turn against the strut. But not sure if they could mess up getting the bolt into the top of the hole due to reduced clearance.
Hi Stephen I understand the concern, some manufacturers do attach the mudguard directly to the toolbox, they could bend for sure - I guess it depends on how much extreme off road work you do. My car has gone about 6000k now and the bolts are still good. I pumped a heap of silicone up there too which somewhat acts as a glue and vibration reduction but with corrugations you could never rule out a bolt coming loose, these seem to be handling what I’ve done so far just fine. I’m not familiar with the hammerheads but sounds like it could be an option too! Let me know how you go 👍
Cool video, very clear! Hey is it hard to grab the crays in Aus with ya hands? I keep seeing more vids of people with snares over your ways so thought id ask, keep it up mate 🙌
Thankyou very much!😊 Yes it’s rare the water is this clear at this spot The type of cray here (western rock lobster) are harder to catch by hand as they mostly live in limestone caves that are low hanging and deep meaning they are out of reach a lot of the time. Some of the other species mainly southern and tropical lobsters that also live in Aus are much easier to catch by hand with the terrain they live in
How many amps was it putting into the battery? You only showed the current from the panel which we don't know the voltage at the panel so can't know what the actual power from panel was. The atg 225w panel give 15-17a to a lithium battery at 13.2v making it between 198-224w.
Hi Michael, I just looked back at screenshots I took from my shunt after the panel output had gone via my MPPT controller. At the time when I was testing in my driveway and the highest I saw (and took a photo of) was 15.5A, it likely went higher as I took that photo at 10am. I showed the voltage of the panel later in the video when I was in Bremer Bay it was at 25V. Anyway panels aren’t rated in the way you are describing as the end product is influenced by the controller of which there are many options. The ammeter reading directly from the panel multiplied by the voltage at the time gives real time watts prior to entering the MPPT which gives an increased output. As I explained later in the video this panel met its rated power plus some I hope that explanation helps? But I’m happy to discuss further
@@Oceanic_Adventures hey mate I pretty much agree with your reply. However the 25v reading you got was open circuit. It wouldn't be 25v while outputting the 11.6a on the clamp meter screen?
Yes you are correct, when I tested the voltage I unplugged and tested whilst open circuit. I will test the panel again today and test voltage whilst connected
@@Oceanic_Adventures sweet keen to know results. I'm pretty sure it wont be more than 225w
Ok at 3pm with the blanket just flat on the ground (sunny day) I was generating 8A directly on panel (10.6A@MPPT)) and my voltage was sitting on 19V. It did spike up higher in the 20’s but it didn’t hold for long. So this afternoon I’m looking at 152W But given that I’ve had it at 12.7A in better light (panel amps prior to MPPT) multiplied by 19 it meets 225W more like 240W in a real world sense and if I angled the blanket better when testing the result would improve Are you happy with that?
Uncle daz not gonna be happy you crabbing in his spots 😂😂
Just making the most of it while he’s in hospital 😂 Hope he’s ok 👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Should have called it chooks and crabs
Thanks, very handy video. Will be doing the same so hopefully works for me too!
Thanks Linda, glad it helped and good luck with the installation
Jumbo fever! Haha
It’s a thing Trev 😂😂
Well done mate. This will be illegal by the time the kid in the photo is grown up. Enjoy it
Thanks, well I hope future generations can still catch their own seafood. Currently the western rock lobster fishery is deemed by the MSC to be sustainable, this spot I was diving is only diveable a few weeks of the year due to swell and wind so let’s hope it stays that way 👍
A majestic experience, awesome stuff thanks for sharing@@Oceanic_Adventures
