Great project! A better grade of snowblower is only recommendation. Yours seemed to always leave a small berm which renders not a clean sweep!
Thanks for the comment. That may be my fault. The bottom of the blower was completely gone. I rebuilt it and in hindsight I may have extended the bottom plate too much. It does show up if snow is light, or end of a drift. Oh well, works a hell of a lot better than my old tractor mounted!
Nice job, I appreciate the creative idea and you did a nice job on the execution.
Thanks. I did get it painted last summer, also located and in the process of adding RWD to it. However we are experiencing an extremely mild winter. Not that I am complaining
That was one of the best hand made snow blower machines i have seen so far your #1 #2 is a pick- up truck outstanding job on your build really enjoyed watching it in action 👍👍🇺🇸😎 from Ohio
Thank you. I did get it painted last summer. Also currently working on adding RWD. However, have only used it once this season. We have been experiencing an extremely mild winter.
That turned out just awesome. Takes a sharp guy to engineer all the fabrication to make everything work.....pivot points so the belt tension is correct when raising the blower among many other things. Would really like to see it in deep snow. Would you do anything different on a do over?
Thank you. Well this year it has only been used once as we have had an extremely mild winter. I did run it thru some deeper snow last year, after the video, however did not get ample footage to do a follow up video. Things to change? Initially the combine had a 4 valve electric hydraulic body, which I abandoned after I realized it was leaking and unreliable. I replaced with a 3 valve electric solenoid operated. I should have went with a 4 valve, as I could have retained the hydraulic adjustable pulley that ran the header. I replaced that with a simpler set pulley size from a different combine. So, if I would have retained that I could have varied the auger speed on the go, like I can with the fan, using the separator clutch. Ah, future improvements, I have picked up a mud drive rear wheel assembly. Not sure when I will get that attached. Will do a follow up vid when it is accomplished. Thanks for the comment.
You've got to love farmers. I'm gonna build a snowblower. Let me see what I got laying around. 👍
Ha, actually my original plan was to convert a swather, however I purchased the blower 1st, sight unseen. When I saw how big it was I decided that a combine would be a better match! Thanks for the comment.
WOW ,,I JUST BOUGHT A DETTSON ,BUD ON IT , I WILL DO THIS WITH MY STRONG RUNNING F. I NEVER TRADED KEPT FOR REASONS LIKE THIS ,👍 GREAT JOB THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR WORK.. HOPE I CAN REACH YOU IF I NEED HELP WHEN CUSTOMIZING MINE.
Sucker eats!!!
Good job. I have a rear mounted blower on my 1964 IH B414 but I have a plow on the front so I get the extra weight when Im not using the blower. It does the trick for now. Do you have a plow that you use as well? Cheers
No, I have left the snow blower on exclusively. My unit does have a standard 3 point hitch, so I could couple up to standard attachments if I wanted to.
@@hrodd2 I find I don't need the blower as much as the plow. But it's nice to have both options
Weld for a farmer? he works another day. Teach a farmer to weld and this happens.
Ha, good one! Thanks for the comment
You know u gotta great running machine when it purrs while working, this thing is harmony to my ears
Thank you for the kind remark. This season it is going to get rear wheel drive. More time in the shop, however should be a huge improvement
Nicely done! 😊
Thank you. I anticipate adding rear wheel drive this winter.
@@hrodd2 I’d like to see that!
YOU SIR ARE A MECHANICAL MAINIAC GREAT BUILD !
Thank you . I plan on updating the blower with a rear wheel drive this fall/winter.
Awesome build but I think Im gonna work on something a little easier.
Well, you know how the saying goes, a trip of a 1000 miles begins with the 1st step. Thanks for the comment
Excellent job, looks amazing, time to get some jobs for it 🙂
Thank you. Plan on getting it painted this summer
What a beast...and casually mentioning hardcore hacks like shortened the axle and added an extension to clear the oil reservoir shows that this guy is very skilled.
Thank you for the compliment. Looks like I can retire it away for the summer.
Hey there, don't narrow the wheels unless the weight is an issue (psi/sqin) but make some wings that widen the capture width and you'll be fine,. They make them for truck plows,so check them out. Cheers from Camada
Looks like good machine. What happens when you get snow like we get in Medicine Bow Wy.? Can you come demonstrat it here?
Thanks for the comment. Maybe. Travel expense + beer?
Well done
Thank you. I did do some more video, however have not got around to uploading yet.

Nice job !
Thank you. We just had a major snowstorm, however I was out of town and unable to get into some deep snow. Next time.
I have seen self propelled haybines converted to snowblowers but not a combine. very very cool. I want one if I stay where it's cold. Hopefully I will not have to use one though...
Thanks for the comment. Yes MN stays cold enough and sometimes we also receive the snow
@@hrodd2 I am in Pa and historically it we have had some huge snowfall I remember when I was little that they had to bring these huge snowplowing trucks to clear the interstates . That was at least 20 or so years ago now.
EXCELLENT WORK! There are 100's of thousands of old Gleaners out there that can "easily" be repurposed. Now that you have the blueprints per say you can have some fun! Sell your designs, make some cash, and off you go to be a snowbird! :)
Yeah, that's the plan in life, isn't it? Thanks for the comment
Did you consider running the blower off of a hydraulic motor instead of belt drive? Seems like an alternative to reduce total metal fab could also have added an aux pump for high cfm. Could also then go to a quicktach and been able to use skid steer implements...hmm...maybe I'll have to look for an old gleaner to play around with...
I did consider going with orbit drive. However it would have been more costly. I would have needed a pump on the unit and the orbit motor on the blower. ALso, there is loss of efficiency with hydraulic drives. So, I decided to stay with mechanical. Thanks for the comment
Very nice work!!!
Thank you!
This has got to be the most cobbled together redneck engineered monstrosity I have seen in quite some time. It's fucking glorious and I'll take five.
well, it does work. Thanks for the comment

Great idea looks like it works good. To bad we got rid of the old Massey Ferguson
Yeah, have to repurpose that old useful stuff! Thanks for the comment
Nice machine, great job. What did it cost you if I may ask . Thank you !!!
a cost breakdown is in the description. Less labor of course, cause we work for free!
Instead of narrowing, weld a wide mouthed flaps on each side of the blower
Always thought about a project like this one. Great Job!
Thank you for the comment
Old small combines without a job are everywhere where I live. I just need the ranch! Well done! Is the cab heated?
Yes, they are available at reasonable cost. I have heard some selling for as little as $500.00. Often the engine still has a lot of life left.Yes, cab is a comfortable 70+ degrees! Thanks for the comment
It Looks Like This Vehicle Must Be Mass-Produced Because This Vehicle Very Useful...
yes, just have to round up all the old combines! Thanks for the comment
the Snowbine Harvester has returned!!!
Ha, yeah. When I repaint I plan on adding the word "snow" on the cab after corn. Thanks for the comment
@@hrodd2 well you've done a better job than Top Gear did

Where abouts in MN? I see the old MnDOT logo on the blower.
blower was purchased from surplus auction. Windom area. SW MN is where it's at now
@hrodd2 You are getting use out of it this winter down that way.
@@chuckfinley4757 Yup. Thanks for the comment
Will need to post more footage when you get a good amount of snow on the ground. Definitely makes short work of it and keeps from having piles up on the sides of your driveway like a plow would leave.
Yes, that is the plan. Just waiting on Mother Nature. Thanks for the comment
That is some awesome engineering and what a great build you took your time and thought things out the way they you needed them to be One of the things that I thought of is if you feed out in the field your cows you could use that to clear a pass to drop hay with in the cows would have an easier time eating what an awesome job
Thank you for the comment.
Just went through marketplace and kijiji, not many combines around here unfortunately. It might be for the better, explaining to the wife that we need a combine for winter would’ve been hard 😅
Ha, not sure where you are located. Often farm auctions are an excellent source or like you mentioned craigs list or market place. Patience. Thanks for the comment
Great build but you might consider adding extensions on the left and right side of the snow blower. It looks like you might want to change the position of the lower auger, seems like it needs to be moved forward. The blower is doing a lot of "pushing" of snow before getting pulled into it. I might be wrong. Cheers :)
Old fashion farm know how still lives! 🎉
impressive volume coming ng out of that chute, I was a bit weary about that belt drving the 2 nd stage but it obviously works, how is the first stage powered, shaft or belt again? nice setup and excellent visibility in that position, thanks for sharing 😊
the augers are also belt powered, by the electric clutch on left side of machine. thanks for the comment
Very cool!!

Great project. We tried to find a snowblower big enough to fit in front of our Massey Super 92 which also has a heated cab, but to no avail. Instead I put a 12 foot home made snow blow blade from an under ground fuel tank and the piece ended up being 3 feet tall by 12 feet long. I couldn't believe how much power this combine had. I still wish it had a blower, but for now we push snow. Loved the video and Great job on getting this beast to where it is now. This is simply awesome.
thank you for the comment. Yeah, whatever it takes!
Rip gleaner still a good job making this tho
Thanks, better than the salvage yard
Ya
The previous machinery dealer we went to before it closed had old Gleaner combine series like N, L, F, series, there was one time he also had a old Allis Chalmers 4wd-305 tractor.
Too bad this combine doesn't have RWA on the back or you'd really have a heck of a machine
Definitely. I have purchased chains, which should help quite a bit
Great job, I always wanted to do something like this with a swather and make sure you put a heater in the cab.
Initially I was going to use a swather, however after I picked up the blower it was obviously too large for a swather, so I went with a combine.
