Switching Dillion - Essex Belt Lines Mar 2013

In late March 2013 the Thamesiders division of the NMRA British Region showed their HO modular layout at the London Festival of Model Railways, Alexandra Palace. This was the largest set up we've tried to date at 70ft long and over 200ft of running. A (very clean) SP GP38-2 runs though the loop at Dillion to gain access to the industrial spurs. These modules were being shown for the first time ...

@@spald32 Great and thank you very much for replying to my comment. I have a new video out now. Hope you like and share.
What happened to 566 and 565?
They were turned into 123 and 124.
@@superbaddy4 Oh, was there only engines from 565 through 568?
565 through 568 were the four GO sold to TRE at first back in 1997, which ran for a while with their original GO numbers, then eventually were overhauled and turned into 123 through 126. Much later on, in 2009, GO also sold 525, 527, and 528 to TRE, which they were immediately renumbered to 120, 121, and 122 upon entering TRE service.
@@superbaddy4 Oh. If TRE didn’t renumber all them, they would still be their original numbers, but do you think if the RDCs hadn’t over heated and they never deactivated 1000 and 1001, how would you picture TRE being?
About the same as it is today, just 1000, 1001, and the RDCs are still around and used when needed. Although I could see a reality where TRE isn't currently choosing to buy those two F40PHs since the RDCs are handling what would be their job.
Where do you buy these planes ✈️🌈🌈🌈
My friend, whose layout it was got them from as brass models from Japan about 10 years ago. Can't remember the name of the company
how did you get the cars
I saw the RDCs for the first time in Richland Hills like in maybe 2009, 2010 or 2011.
Cool I record at that bridge all the time
as far i know only 4 of them are actually converted from 240 to 340 and all own by CDC (české dráhy cargo)...these usually dont pul passenger trains
Thanks for that Adam
I miss the TRE RDC's
Fab.
Brian Moore Thanks mate!
Great video
Where did you get the surfliner cars from?
f59 is athearn for sure, but are those lookmodel or custom?
That kid counting train cars is hilarious! (neat layout too!)
Awsome!!
I love Texas we very railfan freindly and you see a bunch of different trains.
they were originality from go when they were dtripped of their logo then purches in an agreement for them to get paeed down from GO to VIA to TRE
Glad you like it. Channel sides are old Walthers kits and the flush sides are Accurails. Since this was shot I've upgraded my BNSF TOFC train to Atlas / Walthers flush sides, BLMA Z Sills, Genesis channel sides plus Bowser and Atheran spine cars.
Nice! What make are the 89 footers?
Where is the Surfliner cars. Are they from lookmodel? There store is closed
wheres the surfliner/f59PHI from?
Great video!!
Thanks for the kind comments. I've posted another bit of vid from one of our groups outings. Hope you like it!
Finally,A decent HO model train layout!Nice attention to detail.Trying to find nice layouts like this one on UA-cam is hard to find, please upload more videos.
@MrJacMac1986 No, it's some dude peeing in the background.
Is that rain or electricity?
Mostly from swap meets and 2nd hand traders. They are a mix of the old Accurail flush decks and Walthers Channel side which have been superceeded by the Walthers / Atlas flush decks, Athearn Genesis channel sides and the forthcoming BLMA Z sill cars
Where did you get those TOFC cars?
Nice
@TRE570 yeah irvine is where i live... southern california!
N scale
N or HO scale?
Thanks. It was taken at Zernez, midway down the line from Scoul-Tarasp to St Moritz.
They were bought from VIA Rail they were TRE's first peices of rolling stock.
Excellent video!
Hi. Thanks for the comment. This was just a club meet where we were testing the layout. When we run at train shows we are lot more careful to run prototypically. Dan
Remember an Ethanol train would require at least one buffer car between the locomotive and head car loaded or empty.
That was me. It was a v quick job using an airbrush with some panels masked off on the roof and sides to simulate patching
Who weathered every trailer in the train?
Yes, IIRC it was outside some municipal buildings south of Mobest Yard. We had followed this train up from the industrial area further to the south - not a good neighbourhood!
Thats why there is only 2 railroad companies BNSF and Union Pacific. BNSF has to collect something at 19th Ave and Lower Buckeye Rd via 11th Ave street running then east on lower buckeye towards 19th Av
As I live in the UK I got most of them from the few dealers here that import US stuff. Manufactuers are a mix of Athearn, A-line / Intermountain and Walthers
Yes, it was shot south of Mobest Yard. We parked up in the lot in front of the municipal buildings to get the shots. We had followed it up from the industrial area south of there but didn't hang around as there a lot of dodgy characters around!
This is actually a GP35 and has been caught on camera a few times here in AZ and CA and NB. Is this shot just south of Mobest Yard? I try to watch down there but they made it not so railfan friendly at the dirt lot now.
Thanks. We originally saw this train in the industrial area between the BNSF and UP yards south of where the vid was shot. Unfortunatley we couldn't many decent photos / footage to the huge numbers of homeless wandering around - not very safe!
my guess is only BNSF and UP maybe a shortline or two. CHICAGO IS WAY BETTER DUDE
Absolutely. The Budd baggage car by Walthers (released several years ago) is also a very good choice since it's close to a Santa Fe prototype which the Southwest Chief seemed to have a lot of and still has to this day. It took me a while to find one of the Amtrak Budd baggage cars on eBay for my HO Southwest Chief. Mid to late 80s more likely then not would be in phase III paint, but not all too uncommon to find a phase II baggage on the Chief in the mid 80s. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the comment and the proto tips. I do have some vid of the Chief on Raton at the end of ATSF (my era) but I forgot the order of set up the day the vid was taken. I do have a Train Station kit almost finished for a Coach / Dorm ex- ATSF 'Step-up' in Ph 3. Yes, the Roadrailers were a friend's so we ran then for a bit of a laugh. Question for you - would one of the new Walthers 72ft Baggage cars be correct for a mid-late 80's SW Chief?
Nice. I especially like the Santa Fe freight waiting for the Chief...very realistic. But in the phase III era on the Chief, the sleepers were at the rear of the train. Not like it is today. You also might want to look into getting a Hi-Level dorm too. Intermountain will be releasing one in phase III soon. The Roadrailers are neat too, but not really right for that era of Southwest Chief. Didn't mean to criticize, just thought I'd help out with some prototype info.
'Pigs' refer to intermodal trailer trains. From what I can work it comes from shortening 'piggyback' which was the term first used trailer-on-flat-car (TOFC) took off in the 50's down to 'pig'. Cranes for loading TOFC flats and spine cars will often be refered to as 'piggy packers'. Hope this helps
What's the definition and origin of the term "pig train"?
