I've loved this song for 31 years. I've listened to more than 100 covers, but they all used the wrong lyrics except this one I just found with 944 views. Doug Hopkins wrote this song with the line "You can trust me not to drink" (about 2 minutes into this version), but the lead singer Robin Wilson insisted on changing "drink" to "think," having grown tired of Hopkins' multiple references to his drinking problem in so many of their songs. Excuse me, the name of the band is Gin Blossoms, which is taken from what W.C. Fields called his nose because of his excessive drinking. Doug was kicked out of the band for his drinking right after they released this song and before they made it big. Soon after that, he killed himself. The popular version and all the covers say "You can trust me not to think", which doesn't even make sense. I've just wanted to hear the song as it was written for so long. I finally found this version, and I think Doug would like it. "The past is gone, but something might be found to take its place."
