Thanks! The gnome is painted with simple acrylic craft paints and sprayed with a Krylon acrylic sealer. I suggested to the person I painted it for to just keep indoors or in a window to charge the solar lights, just not let it get soaked. She's actually keeping it at her desk at the office right now. As far as doing one for outdoors, Valspar & Behr would cost you a ton in colors, even for samples. But luckily in the same section the craft paints are at Michaels or even WalMart, there are "multisurface", "patio paints" or outdoor acrylic paints by Folk Art or DecoArt that may or may not require a sealer (and even then you'd need to find a sealer that gives UV protection and won't yellow with age). Since your gnome is plaster and not concrete, a good sealant would be needed to prevent it from getting moisture into the plaster and disintegrating it. I would actually brush on a matte varnish sealer on to get a good decently thick coating to act as a sealer for the plaster and to also act as a primer layer. Then maybe lightly rough that surface with a ultra-fine grit sandpaper like 1000, then paint with the multisurface paint. Then if you want to spray with Krylon or brush paint with a glossy varnish, that should work to get it to last a few years.

@@shilohspiderart Thank you for the information! My husband is a paint auto body sales rep. I have an airbrush and acrylics they use for airbrushing details. I also have access to good sealer that has UV protection that is used in the auto body shops. I am going to give those a try since I think they are formulated better than what you can get in the craft store. I want to put my gnome in the garden and bring him in for the winter months. Fun fact: A brown paper bag is equivalent to 2000 grit sand paper. Thank you for getting back to me 😊

Thanks! If I had the time, I probably could have finished it in a weekend sanding it, staining, painting and sealing it. But this was the first time doing this pattern and I was making the red and blue one at the same time, so it took me a few hours a over a week and a half switching between them all to let them dry - and so I wouldn't smudge anything in a rush!
